No - it's not a typo, nor a mirage.....
The following info was also 'revealed' earlier at todays drawing, and although those present had been told to strap their diapers tight, a few puddles was still left on the floor when the amazing news struck....
As part of BIG's month long celebration of our anniversary, the BIG Lottery is guaranteeing an incredible 50.000.000 (50M) ISK lottery prize at the next drawing (august 18th).
How does this guarantee work excactly you might ask.
Well - the BIG Lottery will, regardless of how many tickets gets sold, pay out 50.000.000 ISK to the lucky winner next time
Should the sale of tickets exceed the 50.000.000 ISK, say 100.000.000 ISK (one can dream right ), then we will naturally pay out the full 100.000.000 ISK.
Once more : The BIG Lottery is guaranteeing a (minimum) 50.000.000 ISK lottery prize at the next BIG Lottery drawing (18th august)
And its so easy to enter : BIG Lottery FAQ

Thought someone might like it
/me crosses fingers that *alot* of tickets gets sold, so BIG wont have to pay *all* of the 50M....
PS: For the record - Although the mods in their infinite wisdom, brilliance and authority, that we all have to bow to and agree with, have seen fit to sticky this, compared to the larger scheme of things, insignificant little anniversary lottery event , please know that the Lottery itself is by no means endorsed/suported/maintained/excamined/etc by CCP in anyway. Just trying to make sure ppl dont think that CCP is paying the bill </humour> BIG Lottery

Edited by: Slam on 06/08/2003 13:33:44 Edited by: Slam on 06/08/2003 13:33:26 Q: can I trust this? Isn't this just another scam from somebody trying to cheat other players?
A: Check BIG's track record on this event forum. We have been running this lottery since day 1 of Eve retail! Come the day of the drawing and BIG corp wallet will be 50m ISK thinner *snivel*.
We have on numerous occasions tried to pursuade Tornsoul to drop this hopeless moneysink. Sadly our noble CEO has a bleeding heart for the community.
Buy some tickets already!

Many thanks to TornSoul and BIG for offering this sort of event. (This is gonna paint CAREBEAR all over me, but...) I hope to follow that example myself.

Someone might have smiled a bit when, in my initial post, reading this
Quote:

Guess what...
It looks as if we might hit the 100M (thats 100.000.000) ISK afterall.
Currently - 5 days into the BIG Lottery, there has been bought tickets for a total of 35M...
We are ~1/3 through this round, so if the money keeps pouring in at this rate, we should hit the 100M mark by next weekend as 3*35M > 100M......
Imagine that : 100.000.000 ISK
Someone is going to become stinking filthy rich BIG Lottery

It has happened...
The 50M *minimum* BIG Lottery prize was indeed only a minimum...
Hit the link next to my signature to see for yourself.
@SKiNNiEH Be happy - It means more money for the winner. Who knows - It could be you
The reason why people are doing it, is of course to increase their chances of winning.
If you can afford it, buying 5M worth of tickets currently gives you almost a 10% chance to run of with the prize - pretty nice odds.... BIG Lottery

   Maybe I misunderstand you?
But we don't make anything on the lottery. Every single ISK is paid out as prizemoney.

Im sorry, but am i to late for this now???
your website says the drawing will be on Monday 19th August (as shown below), and me not bothering to check the dates myself I just assumed that monday would indeed be the 19th and that I had until midnight of the 18th to buy my tickets.
However, it turns out that i was supposed to buy them by midnight the 17th!!
Bit annoyed. You guys do a great job, but please check all your data is correct in the future.
And before anyone starts yapping off, Yes, It could be construed this is my fault for leaving it to the last minute, but i would rather keep my cash in my wallet incase of emergencies.
.............. Quote from http://big.wayland.dk/lottery.asp ..............
Number of participants so far : 400
BIG Anniversary prize : 78943000 ISK
(Last Updated: 2003/08/17 .23:36)

Wow, this thread is all but abandoned, isn't it?
Anywho, if you guys (BIG) wanted to, you could take a small cut, as per your website's notification of the 10% admin fee you've said you'd take off of each auction. Although with a corp of your stature, I'd imagine you don't *need* the money. Just don't forget.... You can do that!
Much oblidged to whomever thought of the lottery, you've made many people very happy and given a little spice to the best game of all time, something to offset (at least partially) the annoyance of after-patch lag
