This is absolutely killing me! After so much waiting, I finally got a Raven. Always wanted one (despite the recent changes) and now am trying to figure out how to tank it.
My problem? Well... armor or shield? With armor, I can fit cap rechargers in the mids and keep a much much faster cap recharge rate. With the shield tank, I do not get that recharge rate bonus and my tank will only last so long, and Ill have to sit off to the side and let it regen.
Now at that, the raven as with all Caldari ships is more shield oriented (having a greater amount of shield HP than armor) making the shield tank an obvious choice.
I dont really want to risk almost 20 hours of ingame work I put into building and equipping this raven at a risk Im unfamiliar with. I know and understand armor tanks and havent had a full shield tank before. With my current NPC hunting (Blood/Dark Blood targets of the Querious region, do thermal/em dmg) shield tank I have equipped:
XLarge CS-L Emergency Shield Overload I
2x Photon Scattering Field (EM Hardener)
1x Heat Dissipation Field (Thermal Hardener)
2x Shield Boost Amplifier
I got this off the topic How do I setup my raven? which is in the stick ship setups thread under "the average defensive setup". Can't afford the super expensive named-faction setup quite yet  Would this setup suffice vs multiple BS spawns and last me long enough to take out the target?
Ah sorry, I really did go off and ramble. Just looking for the best way to NPC with my shiney new raven without getting anhialated.

So you guys say forget the shield tank, and just go armor? I think Ill go with that then, though it certainly wont be as effective as it is with my megathron.

Now I am as lost as I was before. Got a bunch saying armor tank, but a couple giving shield tank specifics.
I have no doubt a raven shield tank could hold out very well against the NPCs Id be facing, but the problem is if it can hold out for long enough :(

Alright then, I'm going to give the shield tank a try despite my extreme paranoia about getting webbed/warpjammed and layed out by the NPCs I commonly hunt  If it doesnt work out Ill see about armor tanking it.
So many different opinions from experienced and inexperienced players alike, it gets hard to syphon through and find the information you are really looking for. Thanks for the help, a bit more confident now.

That basically summed up all the information I needed as far as the shield/armor tank differences. Right now I split my time between the Caldari areas (Lonetrek Ive got agents) and the Querious region for alliance purposes and mining. I think I will move my raven out for missions and my megathron (which Ive found well suited as is for Querious 0.0 rats) will stay out there.
And the information about the differences between XL and L boosters opened my eyes a bit when I did the math. Thanks a bunch.
