First of all, the important thing to understand is that EVE isn't actually fun. Winning is fun, but 99% of the time you're playing the game you're just sitting around doing nothing. So, what you want to do is let someone else do the boring parts while you have all the fun. 50 billion ISK is a decent start to a mercenary fund, and will allow you to spend all your time trolling on the forums (the real fun) while your mercenaries do things that you, as the glorious CEO, can claim credit for.
Now, you have some choices to make about what target. There are three good options:
1) Your friend who has your character. Make them pay for having your character. For example, pay someone to keep a Falcon alt next to them at all times and perma-jam them if they ever undock (without ever killing them, of course). And for maximum drama make sure they know it's you ruining their corporation and griefing them out of the game. Since you won't have to lower yourself to actually playing the game while this is happening you will be free to post epic threads about how much they suck, or reply to every post they make with a link to their latest lossmail.
2) Carebears. This is the best option if you want to continue playing the game for a long time. Carebears are easy targets, so you can get away with cheap mercenaries. And if you pick the right targets you might even be able to ransom carebear corps for more than you're paying the mercenaries, making a net profit on every deal. This has a major advantage in playing the forum game: while you might lose the personal drama (though never underestimate carebear hate mail) you'll generate an impressive killboard for your corp and everyone will have to respect you as a great leader.
3) Drama. Pick someone famous and/or interesting (preferably someone who loves forum posting) and hire mercenaries to kill them. This will probably cost you more money and drain your ISK reserves very quickly, but it has excellent potential for generating forum drama while it lasts. Then once you run out of money you can quit again, secure in both your legacy as "that guy who did X", and your complete lack of funding to ever start playing again if your friends beg you to re-subscribe.
So, good luck and give me my ******* money! |

Start up a newb-ish corp in FW and fund countless waves of frigates, destroyers and cruisers.
You can do a lot of things with that kind of isk.
Running a corp can be either one of the most rewarding or most punishing roles to fill in eve (frequently it's both)
Carve out a name and a solar system for yourself and build a corp that will grown and thrive even without you and long after you've lost interest in the game. |

So my situation is thus: I have around ~50 billion in liquid isk, another ~10 bil (rough estimate) in various assets which I kept on a throw-away alt and I am looking to re-establish myself.
I know there's no right or wrong answer, but I'm quite curious to know what you would do?
500 million isk to the answer that I find the most insightful or amusing. ;)

By the sounds of how much isk you have your old character had quite a bit of sp.
I restarted many times, even though I started in 2005 my highest character only had sp in the low twenties. Previous characters all got biomassed, including billions of isk + assets, also given away billions of isk and assets.
Biggest problem with starting over is you're not able to do what you used to be able to do due to the obvious reason of not having the skills trained.
Another problem you might find is where you have so much isk, you'll find there's no real reason to do much to generate isk at low skill levels as you already have far more than your character needs at that time. Like for instance level 1 and 2 missions which are not that interesting anyway, but you'll still have to do some to get to higher level missions because of the corp. standings.
But the biggest problem is that you may get bored quicker because of the low skill levels of your new character especially as you've already played before with a higher level character. Although your friends will probably keep you occupied.
My advice would be if you find that you are getting bored because of the reasons I gave above, consider getting a ready made character from the market. That way you have access to higher level content which should help as you continue to develop your new character in the way that you want to.
This is free advice by the way, I already have more isk than I need at this time. |

I wouldn't know how to answer this really. I would do what I hadn't done yet, but with a game like Eve, how would you know.
I'm looking into the Roleplay side of the game, as after nearly 9 years I've never done it. There was a comparable marketing problem a few years ago with a pair of competing pasta sauces. A contractor was brought in to find the killer flavour of pasta sauce as the competition was too entrenched, and even at blind testing they were better than the market leader, but established.
The approach was to create the best pasta sauces, plural, not best sauce. Dozens of iterations on composition later 3 dominant strains were found, original, spicy and chunky. Chunky didn't even exist, and a third of the customer base wanted it, it was an unknown unknown.
Thats what I would do, you know what you have done, you know what you haven't done, but it is that unknown unknown that is where the thrill comes from.
So, where have you been already?

Quitting in 2008, early in the year IIRC, puts me behind most of the newer developments. I did the nullsec empire bit, blobbed with ye old kitchen sink bs fleets, manufactured for the corp while I was out there, got space-rich building some T2 stuff. vOv
I know that I want nothing to do with corp or POS management and mandatory stratops, but that's about it. |

I would suggest outfitting a few ships and looking up hisec mercenary corporations. some of the most fun I've had is with a corporation called Royal Hiigaran Navy. Hisec wars I found have a higher tempo, lower fleet size. Once there you can branch out to plug in the gaps with your industrial expertise to make sure you are cash positive.
Alternatively, do what I said above, but bankroll your own mercenary corporation, with your capital and a few close contacts (say 5 minimum after flying with other pvp groups) and make your name like that.
Hope that helps.

I would use the throw away alt to get into a corp, pleading innocence and plex for where the iskies came from, then have fun awoxing the corp that let you in while you train a new toon up to which you transfer all your goodies to after awoxing. I would suggest the New Order as a suitably fun target. Good luck |

I went through something similar recently (came back after burning/boring out). Stay away from whatever you were doing before you left. Or, if you can't, at least keep it to a minimum.
You should not need to do any PvE for the foreseeable with that much ISK (or even a tenth of it given how easy it is to turn a profit). Think about what keeps this game growing despite the awful missions (hint, it involves other players).
If you did not PvP before, start now with a young character. T1 frigates will teach you as much as larger, expensive ships since you will find so many more fights. And you really have to be on the ball since the fights go sooo fast. Great fun.
So come to lowsec and let me shoot you (or get shot by you) - you can keep the iskies. Hooray, I'm l33t! -á(Kil2: "The higher their ship losses...the better they're going to be.") |

Use the money to slowly worm your way into a large corporation via altruistic acts. Be helpful, friendly and talkative and do your best to befriend your 'superiors' (but never outshine them, make them look better because of your actions instead!). Then once you've fully established yourself at the top of the food chain, slowly instigate discontent in the lower ranks against the current leadership via alts. To do this, you'll be tearing apart every decision the leadership have made in the past, pointing out every flaw and blaming it squarely on the upper echelons of leadership (subtly avoid criticizing your main and the person who happens to makes the most mistakes, so you have a scapegoat if the need arises).
Then once the corp is rallied against their leadership, lead a coup de'tat and take on the role of the 'reluctant' king, stepping up to take the 'heavy' burden of leadership. And why would you want to do this? Well you'd be proving to yourself that you could be diabolical if you wanted to, outsmarting and outplaying everyone in your way! It'd be like your own rule the world plan . And once you're the leader, you could help out your RL friend by forming an alliance and trying to carve out of a piece of the universe for yourself.
Or you could just use your money to fund a pure PvPer and blow things up while doing 20 minutes of trading each week for lots of profit :P. |
