About a week ago my name was changed without my permission from Antichrist to Loving Jesus. GMs have informed me that they are going through and changing many other character names that have been found offensive. I was also informed that we will have a chance to choose a name of our liking... Anyone else out there have a forced name change? Just curious.

Wait a sec..
I can see forcing you to choose a new name I guess..
But to actually assign you something as idiotic as "Loving Jesus"?
If true, that sounds like spite by some fundie xian GM or something.
Very hard to believe.

yeah... I'm not fighting that one anymore... As long as they honor my name change. I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else.

I have a lot of dirty jokes about a guy called "Loving Jesus" doing pervert things to Jesus.
I guess "Loving Jesus" should be much more changed than "Antichrist", but well, this is just my opinion. ---

Yeah, 'Loving Jesus' is pretty provocative, if ya think about it enough.
In fact, it'd be cool to have that name and use it in very unsavory manners, in and out of game. :)

I love your new name, it SO fits your avatar. :-)
But seriously, you have been offered to select another name, it's all good. It just shows that the GMs (still) have a (good) sense of humor.

I find loving jesus just as offensive to my sensibilities as antichrist, which I dont find offensive at all. But if it were offensive, loving jesus isnt any better. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |

I have had a GM message me in game via eve-mail saying that my name (smart ass) was found to be offensive and it needs to be changed I mailed the GM back asking what was so offesive about a "clever donkey" and was it a player that complained. The GM (who was gm white) mailed me back saying it was a complaint that they had recieved from a player that had prompted him to take action to have my name changed. I started a thread about this a few weeks back but it got deleted so I dont think this one will be around to long.
ps. I still got my name

It amazes me that people will go out of their way to whine about how someone else's name has the word 'ass' in it.

Edited by: Scragg on 05/08/2003 12:54:15 The funny thing is I find the name Loving Jesus more offensive than Antichrist.
But all joking aside, some people get real sensative when you start talking about religion. Best to avoid that topic when naming characters.

I find nothing offensive with either Smart Ass (my wife calls me that sometimes) or with Antichrist (it's in the Bible for crying out loud). There are a few that need to go but now they are becoming name police. Who is to say what offends each individual. I think they have opened a can of worms. Antihero is a cool name. Antichrist just sounds like someone raging against some machine or other.
Loving Jesus. Now that's some funny ****.
But I guess tastes differ. .

"smartass" is not terribly OOC, if you are one. "Suck this" is definitely over the atmospheric line =8). Personally, i don't wanna see any religious references at all in this FICTIONAL SCI-FI GAME but then again, that's why I have block. Primarily filled with channel-to-channel salesmen atm .
Just a thought, but if i was told to change the name of a guy named Antichrist, and i had to pick a temp name until you could make a new one, i probably woulda done something like LJ too, just because it's the opposite and somewhat amusing. It never would have occurred to me that it might be taken as an enforcement of Proper Xian Values, so maybe someone was trying to be funny.
But having said all that, they shouldn't have changed your name. I don't need 6000 other people hired as jury over whether anything i do is being offensive or not :P.

Well, the Gods of Eve finally changed my name for me. <Sigh> Thank goodness. A lesson to all you out there with a name that 'could' possibly be construed as offensive... Don't be surprised if you have a new name the next time you logon.
To all of you out there that actually felt as though the name Antichrist was so offensive that it should be changed... GET A FRAGGIN LIFE! If you spent more time hunting NPC pirates and less time whining about other ppls names... you might not sound like a bunch of bleeding heart sissies.
"Oh, his name is just not acceptable..." "The name Antichrist is offensive to me." "That name should not be allowed."
Do you realize what you sounded like? A real little *****. Plain and simple.
Oh, and the name 'Karif' is offensive to me. In the Holden's Old World Dictionary it gives the definition of karif (ca weef) [Archaic] 1. trapped air within the vagina 2. the rancid odor produced by the infected genitalia of molested sheep.
Nevertheless, I will not petition to have Karif's name changed. I have a game to play.
Thnx, ---

Well to a few people that believe in Christianity the name anti-christ would offend some people. I like the name they gave to you Loving Jesus. Nice change.

As a believer in the Ancient Ways and a Non Christian I find these names just that, Names. The thing is I don't do is bring my religious beliefs to a World Wide Gaming venue. I would no more meet eye to eye on any ones view. If you find offense in names such as this, then prehaps you haven't matured enough for the global community, I take more offense at names that depict the base vulgarities of human nature.
Interesting that Lucifer is mentioned, the name means "Light Bringer" and many pre-christian myths have stories of him. Chief Security Officer - Kusari Systems
