I disagree with the original post that these patches never provide anything new.. but it can be interpreted different ways I guess.
The motto going around CCP's development strategy for EVE is "power to the players". I believe when they give us new tools to do things which we couldn't have done before, its far better than static content on any day of the week.
Take for example COSMOS.. that stuff takes a long time to make, and in the end its static. Once a player runs through it once or twice, the entertainment value dies off quite sharply. On the other hand, when you have new forms of pvp, those encounters with other players can provide fun for months on end.
Take for example Cold War. In my mind, the most relevant thing to me was the missile balancing. It made the game a lot more fun, knowing that you can't have one weapon or ship to dominate the rest. We got two COSMOS constellations.. did I do them? Nope. Have I even been to Ani & Okkelen on Tranquility? Nope.
As for the ships themselves.. 52 in total. 36 of which are tech 2 or new class of ship. I agree that Interceptors and the Assault Class ships are just better versions of tech 1 with no differences in gameplay (and as a side note, the marginal improvement tends to be closer to 30-50% and not 1-3% like you claim). Is that bad? No, because I wouldn't want those ships changed into something other than direct attack vessels.
Take Covert Ops, Logistics, and Bombers. Are there tech 1 equivalents of those ships? No. They each have an 'ability' that no other class in the game does.
On the topic of skills: You say they only nerf and reintroduce skills which just put you back to where you were pre-nerf, and is thus a timesink. This is untrue. For instance, the new missile skills.. no matter how high you train them, will never return them to pre-sigradius form. The ability to annihilate small targets at any range or speed is gone. Yet, for the roles which they are intended.. the new skills only made better in every concievable way.
You can't complain about that. As for the other skills in Cold War:
Advanced Weapon Upgrades 5 - no pre-patch equivalent, straight up boost to your character
Dreads & Support skills - Jumpdrive skills expanded upon, new skill for siege mode, etc.. what can I say, this isn't boosting something which was nerfed
New drone skills - more damage, without a nerf to drones, another straight up boost.
Now, maybe you're upset because the Gankageddon is getting nerfed. Although I don't know why anyone would be after nearly a year of this garbage. But again, as far as I can tell there are no new skills which put you back at "where you were".
This isn't a cycle of nerfing followed by a cycle of boosting just to create meaningless timesinks. Are you seriously saying that 75.000 paying customers and 80 employees are that dimwitted? Its called balancing.
For example, someone here wants them to screw the "uber ships" and give them some useful version of the bomber in RMR. Why can't we have both? Because afaik thats exactly what CCP is doing. Bombers will be useful for the things which they are designed to do.. so useful that I'm considering buying a stock before prices jump.
And on the topic of "Uber ships".. why is their existance so threatening to peoples enjoyment. This isn't the worlds largest assault ship ever.. it has a functionality that extends to entire alliances, and not just the person piloting it. That means, even though you won't have one, you'll still be interacting with and benefitting from the presence of somebody that does.
The other 40 ships you'll see on a daily basis.
Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning.
