Hi All,
Just chasing down some specs. I'm trying to run one client using my HDTV as the monitor. Right now, the most accurate reproduction is in the "normal" TV screen setting which goes nearly to the top and bottom but it leaves about 3" to either side black. Eve gives me the choice of normal or widescreen on the TV remote. The latter fills the screen but widens the aspect ratio. I'm typing this on a 22" Acer LED screen -- which is about the same ratio as the TV and the game looks good on this. Here is some relevant hardware information:
i5 2500k on a Z68 motherboard 16 GB Ram HD 7750 card running bone stock, HDMI out lots of storage Ethernet wired with a good signal TV has up to 1920 x 1080 resolution. It can't be set to "computer image" with the HDMI feed.
Are there any special tricks to having a TV as a monitor and using the screen to best effect?
Thanks for your help, sh

So long as you change the resolution in EVE to 1920x1080 it should be no problem to use the HDTV. Maturity, one discovers, has everything to do with the acceptance of not knowing. http://www.di.fm/spacemusic |

From time to time I have been using my 42" TV, set up to display VGAs output through nVidia's HDMI. Desktop can be either duplicate, extended or clone mode, if you use windows 7.The rest of my config is pretty much similar to yours.
Since you seem not to have HDMI input on your TV, I suggest you should use one of the other video inputs should your TV has, i.e. vga dvi component, assuming of course you have the required cables and /or connection converters (i.e.dvi to vga), in order to connect your VGA's output with one of your TV's input.
Upon success of this setup you are trying to deploy, you are gonna love the visual outcome, trust me... Consider though that your TV consumes more power than your monitor and this has its effects on your electricity bill.
PS. You might want to change the UI scale to 120%, for the fonts to be readable without binnoculars |

This. Change the resolution in the in-game settings. Als make sure your PC outputs 1920x1080. Also: font scaling 100% works fine, just don't dip below that unless you need the screen real estate in Windowed Mode. I have a setup like this too (using a Samsung LED tv) so I can chill on my IRL couch while I chill on my CQ couch.

Thanks to all,
KATASKOPOS: I do have HDMI. The TV allows what it calls a "computer image" but it can only be configured with VGA or component connections.
Zach Breen and Inxentas Ultramar: I'll have a look at that when I get home. The PC is set to 1920x1080 but I scroll in and out on browsers not to squint. The 7750 is a decent card but I'm considering getting a GTX 660 for that PC so I can swipe the 7750 for the machine I'm working on now. Whether than happens or not, resolution is pretty good. So far I've only monkeyed with settings on the PC and the TV but not from within Eve.

my primary monitor is a 52" Mitsubishi LCD. i'd ignore the eve settings, the real issue is with the windows/TV resolution. in windowed mode, eve can be easily scaled in resolution by expanding or contracting the window, but this won't remove the bars on either side of the picture. that's going to be a different issue. use the HDMI connection if possible and make sure the tv is set to 1920x1080 resolution. i suspect the computer mode doesn't really matter (its usually just a quick setting for color and contrast settings). make sure your computer gfx card/windows is set to the same resolution 1920x1080p. should be able to pull this up easily by right-clicking your desktop, then selecting the screen resolution or properties option (depending on windows version).
once the TV and Windows/GFX are set to the same resolution you should be able to get a clean picture with no bars. then open the eve client and set whatever resolution you want. i personally always run in windowed mode and scale the eve client rez by dragging the window as needed. |

i use a 42" samsung, i just took an hdmi cable form my navida card to the TV and it worked kinda just fine, i ran into 2 problems, 1st for some reasion navida thought it was a cool idea to make the hdmi out a "mini" so i had to find a cable that was mini on one end and reg on another, adaptors didnt work well at all.
2nd problem i ram into was that my just did not like my computer. so it aculty was a bigger picture then it shoudl have been thus cutting some stuff off. so i had to go into the tv settings and make it fit to picture (sadly that took me for ever to figuer out. not a fun interface).
but now it works just fine. have every thign at max and its very pretty. only problem i face is sometimes its hard to see some numbers (is that an 8 or a 0?) on market or even stats. other wise it was well worth it and i wish you the best of luck mate ^_^ |

Thanks!
More things to try when I get home. I'm actually setting this up for my wife. She is the space explorer. I'm the tech sergeant until we get a new HTPC organized. It started as a project to watch movies and blossomed into something larger.
In my lurkings I've seen a lot of cases of people running multiple clients on multiple screens but haven't seen anything about using a big screen for galactic travel and a smaller one (maybe an iPad on Splashtop) just off the main line-of-sight that has the fine print. It could even be two monitors side-by-side; one for action and one for accounting. She is going through the tutorials now and that would certainly help. I run a two-monitor rig for my business and am always dragging and dropping.
I'll report back after I've gotten hands-on with the HTPC.
Cheers, sh |

Got everything set up right. Kudos to all for your patience and spirit of community. The print (even at 125%) is still a bit hard to read. You may hear from me again about how to set up a wireless remote screen and keyboard/mouse that works better than an iPad. I'm not an Apple hater but I can see how they wouldn't appeal to a game played by independent spirits. sh |

I tried this in my 32 inch Samsung HDTV. The pixels of a TV are a lot bigger than that of a monitor. Therefore you are going go want to sit a bit far from your TV or it will look bad. |

In the end it was a matter fiddling with various resolutions, zooms and squint level. We also got an IPS monitor closer to the gamer for some detail. The new one is line-of-sight directly under the big one. She hasn't figured the the best settings for two together but it seems like a dual monitor setup would work well with the print screens on the hi-rez monitor and the great beyond on the big screen. Wireless headphones on the way.
As always, thanks to all Eve adherents for your expertise and patience, sh |

Set your TV in 1 to 1 pixel mode if it has such a option. |
