Are you looking for all tank or some toward yield?
You sure you want to take the skiff into low sec?
If you are not with a low sec corp don't post on forums or you will be located and killed if you plan on mining in low sec.
On that note:
DC2 PDS2
3x adaptive invulns T2 2x Medium shield extender T2
Modulated strip miner T2
2x medium shield extenders.
125k health and 138 omni def. Heat 147k health and 169 omni def. (( Last over 2 mins )) Faction the PDS2 for caldari if you need more shield and are willing to pay.
I recommend using a T1 for this first! I also recommend using a higher yielding fit.

Skiff is actually a pretty safe bet in low sec since most people will be skittish to engage it with an actual gang (Fear of cyno)
Fit a stab, watch your dscan and you'll prolly be fine. BYDI (Shadow cartel) Recruitment open!

Use a Procurer first and see how you fare.
[Procurer - loltastic]
[Lows] Damage Control II Drone Damage Amplifier (OR Reinforced Bulkhead II for more tank OR Mining Laser Upgrade II)
[Mids] Medium Shield Extender II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II Warp Scrambler II Stasis Webifier II
[Highs] Strip Miner II
[Rigs] Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
[Drones] 5x Hobgoblins (or 5x Warrior IIs for killing skirmish frigates)
Stats (with level 4 and 5 skills): - around 65k ehp - 75 to 90 dps - yield is a littler about 900 m3 a minute - costs a total of 30 million altogether.
Notes: - tactics are pretty simple... keep the drones out and set to auto-aggress at all times (because your locking range is only 28km max). Scram and web anything that gets close enough.
- you can take on most close range frigates solo (just manage your drones and keep them from dying). Against kiters, cruisers, and bigger ships you'll need some help (either another Procurer or a real combat ship).
- You can go full tank if you wish... but doing that allows ships to disengage when they find they have bitten off more than they can chew. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

This would, in fact, occur to me but any hesitation it caused would be measureable in nano-seconds.

I meant that it would mean that people would probably not want to put a lot of ships in to get a point. Thus making one stab sufficient.
And no op, you cannot make a skiff that can fight off anything but npc's. BYDI (Shadow cartel) Recruitment open!

No one fears a cyno on a skiff.
Why? because it only has one high slot.
If you see a mining laser active it can not have a cyno on it. |

If you are looking for a battle skiff I suggest you look into one with ECM and Vespas.
Drone damage upgrade can help too. You won't be able to fight off more then a destroyer or frig but it's better then nothing.
A cruiser or bigger you might still get off a random jam and escape.
No one is going to worry much about a fight with any mining ship. |

^^ Noone of us PvP'ers know how many highslots a skiff has. If SC was in the area i'd fear a cyno, then I'd realize I am a part of a corp that derps frigs dessies and cruisers on a hourly basis and I'd zerg rush it in my ****** firetail. |

You asked for a tank fit, there you go, a fit that can tank any belt rat in low sec and of course 0.0, the Skiff aligns and warps very fast, its also quick, 250 m/s. You can pack ECM drones as well as light drones. 104k reported on EFT, cap stable at 63% and can tank 197 DPS.
[Skiff, Tank Fit 3] Damage Control II Ice Harvester Upgrade II
Medium Shield Extender II Gistii B-Type Small Shield Booster Adaptive Invulnerability Field II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II EM Ward Field II
Ice Harvester II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Hobgoblin II x5 Hornet EC-300 x5
However do not be alone, have that Falcon cloaked up nearby for get out of dodge time if you do get pointed, and good luck. If you do not want LOCAL go to WH space, its as simple as that!-á-á-á-á-á-á-á There are people who think that WH space is like 0.0 but without local, well they should light a cyno and try jumping to it. |

xxx957 TheColdOnes wrote:ikr there has got to be a setup that means business and sys don't mess with me or your in for a fight The Skiff and Procurer somewhat have this by reputation already... and it does make certain type of ships hesitate (close range frigates).
However, it will not stop people from attacking you (especially ships that are bigger than frigates). This is especially so for a Skiff as that thing costs close to 200 mil. A ship that expensive is a moving target and will be attacked by anything in low-sec without a second thought... no matter what the fit. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. The durability of Skiffs and Procurers keeps them safe in hisec because the people killing you have 20 seconds to finish the job. In lowsec, nobody is coming to save you, so having more EHP isn't going to turn around a fight against anything; it's just going to mean you spend more time dying. A flight of unbonused light drones might be alright against NPCs, but even a T1 frigate has a realistic chance of killing them off. Your self-defense is +2 Warp Strength and a hail-mary jam from EC-300s letting you get away. It might save you from lone antagonists who don't have 3 points, but you're going to die to the first gatecamp you see or anybody with a friend.
Basically, I wouldn't advise bringing an Exhumer out of hisec unless you had backup. The amount of of money you're risking in a T2 hull is probably far out of proportion with what you're going to be making, and you'll have to spend the whole time paying attention if you want to live. |

I'm unsure of how the yield compares to a Skiff, but if you're intent on lowsec mining there's always the Venture as a cheap alternative. It essentially has a couple of built-in warp stabs and has a low align time, perfect for 'ninja mining'. That being said, I think conventional wisdom is still overwhelmingly that mining 'safely' in hisec and buying any other ores you need >>> solo lowsec mining. (Mining in nullsec blue pockets is a different matter ofc)
If you are set on the Skiff it's worth having an alt in the same corp (preferably with some pvp history) and parking them somewhere in the same system. It's sometimes enough to discourage a solo roamer from having a go as they will assume you are playing bait & gank. Those few moments while a potential ganker weighs up if he is being baited or checks eve-kill can mean life or death. I wouldn't bother too much with a big tank, if you are caught you are dead.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. |
