Edited by: Ibobah''k Chisaraj on 31/10/2005 11:11:47 Are these bugs or intentional behaviour? It sure seems like its intentional as its been around for so long.
It seems most times the drone cloud gets stuck on itself, losing speed and cohesion dramatically. A lot of times a few drones lag behind or run a head.
Wtfwhy does the drones go off do things I dont tell them to do?
The scoop to drone bay command I have to be clicking constantly to make all of the drone cloud come up to the ship and scoop.
Same when attacking a target - most of em they head off in every *chrip*ing direction than the selected target which I REPEATEDLY click attack on. Grrr
ffs?

There appears to be some kind of collision detection going on for drones. Like you say they get too close to one-another and they get entangled, slow down and in some cases grind to a halt.
Perhaps the developers should try removing this collision detection between drones as this would go a long way to improving the server performance. Another area for tweaking perhaps? Certainly their current behaviour (or misbehaviour) would appear to be an intentional feature.
As they currently stand, drones are already limited in their use. I think the max range for drones is 45km which in itself makes them very limited in their effectiveness - not to mention how easily they go "pop".

One way to fix it is to tell the first drone to stop, and the second to move, and they'll "unstick". - Proud member of the [23].

Different types of drones fly at different speeds. In my case my heavy drones usually lag behind because they're slower than my medium drones.

Drones have a certain ammount of AI which usually is useful (would you really want to have to tell them to attack each ship in a spawn separately) but sometimes can get in the way a bit. Scold them + get on with it.

I don't have any problems with Scoop provided my drones are all in range. The 'Return To Bay' command however is a different matter but it is new so hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Not sure what you mean here but in my experience... If you target 1 enemy, fire on it and tell drones to attack they usually all attack that target. If you have multiple targets they will split up and attack several at once. If there are enemies firing on you then your drones will split up and retaliate without orders.

Wow, since you've never had any problems with drones, I now believe them to be perfectly fine and require no fixing at all...

What I would like to see is giving the player the ability to pre-program commands or styles of behavior into drones for certain situations, like, how aggressive they will act on their own without any direct commands or after destroying one target, all attack closest ship within range or wait for next command...etc etc... |

If you've ever used drones, at all, you'd find them getting stuck on each other, attacking the wrong targets, and even shooting structures after being told to go after particular enemies. - Proud member of the [23].
