I was there when the game first went gold.
There was omber in the noob system.
Skills was scattered throughout the region. It was one of those early mistakes CCP corrected quickly.
There was no effective police at all. You can pvp right there in the noob system and no one would gank you. Later the police got tough but could not enforce 0.4 systems. And kept getting tougher---I was able to escape Concord many times then, until finally I couldn't.
There was no battleships in the game. Not even the faction navies and the police had them either. Concorde got their battleships the same time battleships were introduced in the game.
The Sansha rats I was killing were actually dropping projectiles.
The bounties was a joke. Like 500isk for one rat.
I remember fighting for possesion of a belt with a punisher what is now high sec space as we tried to mine it. Problem is, someone else was mining it too.
I remember meeting my first friend in the game and I was amazed he had this big ship called a Bestower and he would sit in the belts for hours filling tha ship up with one single mining laser.
I remember meeting my second friend in the game and it was the first time I ever saw a Burst. I was in a Tormentor then. He traveled over 30 jumps away from Pator to Penirgman. That's right, there was no such thing as highways or even semihighways then.
I remember one of the first whines in the forum when someone who mined so hard to get his 12 million and spent it on a brand new Vexor, then only to lose it in a return journey to a black hole. That's right, a black hole. I never saw a black hole, and I guess we will never see it either, as CCP pulled that environmental feature early from the game.
You can join all the npc corporations then. Sarum. The Amarr Navy. Even Concord. Even the pirates crap on their pants thinking I was a GM. You can see why CCP removed that feature but not after a year has passed.
There was lots of NPC rats near the gates then. Then CCP removed them and later put them back.
I remembered seeing my first cruiser. A Vexor coming out of the station I made a home in. Wow. Later I saw an Osprey entering a Minmatar station. Then two Augorors coming out of an Ishukone station in Penirgman. It was amazing.
I remember a guy with an Omen---it was the first time I saw an Omen. He had like Elite Mining drones hovering with him as he mined rock. An Elite Mining Drone has the same output as a Harvester drone for half the size.
I remember some of my first mining drones I got. They were of the Improved Mining drones, a step above the Standard Mining Drone and two steps above Basic. I still keep my Improved Mining Drones as sentimental souvenirs to this very day. They have also become exceedingly rare since CCP chucked all mining drones from Standard to Elite early.
