A few days ago 4S Corporation's name was changed to EVEcorp 895895.
4S stands for "Samo sloga Srbina spasava" which is bassically the equivalent of "United we stand" (or so I am told).
4S has been in existence since just after release, has been involved in major 0.0 politics and war, and has been playing games together, under the same name, for over 6 years.
They were told that their name was offensive and had to be changed. Apparently, no warning was given, no real explanation was offered.
I am COMPLETELY OUTRAGED by this. I do not think that being treated like garbage is an apt reward for 2.5 years of being loyal customers.
The name is not obscene, and as far as I can tell it does not promote hatred in any form. No one deserves to be treated with this little respect.
Everyone should be outraged by this, it transcends in game politics.

Erm? Where's the offensive part in those two characters? 4S was always "Force" to me. Maybe there's some hidden agenda behind that TWO characters that only gamemasters and/or perverts understand (which don't have to be the same people  )???

Yeah, as much as most of us hate the tactics that 4S use when playing this game, this name change is pretty lame. I'd petition this TBH. I used an online direct translator and from what Baun posted it means "But unity Serb life-guard". So going by that "United we stand" would seem very logical to pull out of that as a phrase they would say. /me glares at the GMs.

This is what it literally means:
"Only unity saves the Serbs".
But it has NOTHING to do with the conflicts in the region or anything like that. Its a patriotic saying (as I am told) on par with "United we stand"
The real kicker though is that the name of the corporation is (.. was) 4S Corporation not "Samo sloga Srbina spasava" Corporation. So even if there is some conceivable way in which "Samo sloga Srbina spasava" is offensive (which I can't find), it shouldn't per se matter as 4S cannot be construed as offensive itself.

I can't believe the people here that are basing their opinions on their view of the victims here. Who cares who it happened to? This is just silly. If this is a new tactic to use against your enemies it sets a pretty scary precedent.
I guess it wasn't the 4S that was offensive though, since the ticker is still the same. Guess 'corporation' means something bad in another language...

Based upon what I have seen and heard, I can't understand why such a drastic measure was taken. It seems wrong. I don't see anything overtly offensive about their corp name or even what it stands for in their language. I guess nothing is safe from the whims of the censor.
Of course, the partisan, negative responses from some in this thread probably should have been expected. Sadly, that is never shocking. Distasteful, but not shocking.

How on earth can you debate that the letters "4S" are in any way offensive?
My trust is the GM's are pretty low as it is, but this really is a new mark for the lower possible limits when they get into this kind of nonsense!
I mean.. for what I care they could be called "Spank my ass and call me Charlie"-corp also without bothering for one single minute.
If you got what it takes i suggest you all cancel your subscriptions until this is resolved.

Let me explain. In the cyrillic alphabet the english s is susbtituted by c. There's a really old Serbian emblem,the cross with 4 c's in each corner,which has been a national symbol of these guys for centuries.
I think it has been around since the medieval times. I also think that this is why someone found it offensive,being a national emblem of some kind.
On to the point now...Mixing RL politics with ingame stuff is totally dumb,like the other corp that got their name changed because it was a saying from an arab scripture with the word "mujahideen" in it.
What most people don't understand is that mujahideen doesn't necessarily mean suicide bombers, and ex-Yugoslav doesn't mean a guy who kills his neighbors,rapes the women and eats the babies. It's the 2nd time this has happened in a fairly short amount of time and it's fairly idiotic.
I'm Greek,so I have the "sad privilege" to live between 2 different worlds. My country is part of the EU block,but i have a lot of understanding for other cultures in the neighborhood, especially with some of the worst bloodshed in the last 10-15 years being between a few hours flight time (middle east) or a simple 6 hour ride by train (yugoslavia) from the room that i'm writing this. Not to mention that i actually get to see the results of bombs dropped around these places not on a TV network,but face to face due to the refugee influx everytime someone presses the wrong button. It kind of makes you think about it in a different way.
If you still don't get it,imagine a group of US players starting a "stars and stripes corp",and then someone petitions it and they can't use it.
And then we can even have UK vs France (or Spain,can't remember) because that bloody Nelson guy pwned a fleet in the battle of Trafalgar. Get my drift? It's like that south park episode where everyone was filling lawsuits against everyone else 
So everybody leave your national rivalries out of the game,there's enough for everyone in RL. I strongly urge CCP to stop changing names whenever someone feels the need to fly his country's colors ingame. It's one thing to display your colours and another thing to insult someone. If you see a corp by the name of "Nationality X is a bunch of @#$%$^%" then by all means change it,otherwise leave it alone.
P.S. If you don't,we'll petition to change the name of the ingame currency to Euro,since ISK sounds too much like Icelandic Kroner to me

Edit:Wow,someone beat my attempts at "explanation" and gave an exact translation. I still stand by my post however and i like it that people disagree with this name change.

Almost any patriotic moto has been perverted for an offensive purpose (you could even go as far as the "United we stand" patriotic mumblings motivating war in Iraq). This doesn't give the GMs license to ban references to nations willy nilly.
