Your will be inserting all your coins one day, when you lose something valuable to you. People usually are smart when they are on "top", but the wind changes, one day its me eventually your turn will come.

Nah. Having lost stuff already, I have understood corporation will follow thier own rules so you might as well read them and make sure you understand what is at stake all the time. In this case, game time in a MMO. Losing EVE for one day is srs bznss... |

I'm afraid reality is a little bit different. Some things are simply beyond control, that's life.
Also, when we protest as a community, CCP is willing to comply. That's not very common for companies in today's world. The respectfull thing to do for us as a community is back CCP all the way in this, whatever happens.
An attack like this can have a few reasons. One is to try and steal money somehow and another is to destroy a company from its base and the community around it because of butthurt feelings. When CCP makes sure they can't get any payment details and steal money from us, we can also stand together and behind CCP on this making sure that stays as one too. It means the attackers will loose anyway, regardless what they have planned.
+ 1 huge middle finger towards the attacker. |

Thought the EULA we all agree to when playing this game says service is not absolutely guaranteed at all times specifically to cover just what you are doing now?

You realize this is a game...you don't have a 99.999% uptime SLA, stop fussing. The fact is the outage did happen and now all that is worth talking about is what CCP will do to compensate players.
Assuming you pay $14.99 USD for a month of game time, then this outage represents about 75-ó of game time. Are you really going to cry over less than a dollar? Would extending your playing time by that tiny amount really make it better? You would get the 30 days you paid for, but come on, that isn't going to make anyone happy!!
Giving skill points might not exactly be tit-for-tat, but it is a way CCP can give something to players that will actually make them feel better. Their goal is to keep us happy, but they can't change history.
This outage happened over a weekend, which is prime playing time, so I suspect CCP will be generous with the skill points...if that is the route they take. 400,000 free SP seems about right to me (about 1 week with typical implants and mapping). |

I agree with the OP. Shifting subs by two days is only fair, seeing as how this issue affected everyone, and not just a few select people. Whether CCP reimburses skill points is entirely up to them, but they're pretty much obligated to reimburse people for time, seeing as how people pay x amount of money for thirty days of play time.
The whole "wasn't CCP's fault" argument doesn't really stand here either. So what if it's not their fault? As an internet company, dealing with attacks is part of their business. You know, if you had an agreement with a catering company to deliver sandwiches to your house every day, and one day they didn't do it because the bread truck exploded before making it to their kitchen, they wouldn't keep the money.
Even Sony credited people time for a day of downtime after PS2 launched. I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Hm.... let's see....
I have 4 accounts. I pay for all the accounts with RLM since I'm an adult and have responsibilities that keep me from grinding for Plex. Unlike you, I'm not whining about losing a couple of days of playing time. Yeah, it is disappointing but I actually have a life outside of EVE, so I can deal with it.

Whether you want to be compensated or not has no bearing on if compensation should be offered.
The Stockholm syndrome is strong with this community. Judging from the responses in these threads, it's fairly easy to see just how many people are content to be the "good citizens" and give up their consumer rights for just a little bit of recognition from their masters, or to be safe from potential "retribution" by the true owners of their accounts.

Nothing in the EULA precludes you as a consumer from receiving the services you paid for, or from being compensated or refunded if those services aren't provided in a reasonable manner. Indeed, if such a clause existed, it would be null and void in pretty much every nation whose name doesn't begin with the words "Democratic Republic of". I wrote some true EVE stories! Honestly I don't understand why people are upset. Not like there was anything CCP could do about it. A DDoS is, by design, something that can't be shrugged off and everything works as normal. CCP did the right thing by taking the cluster down and ensuring that the DDoS wasn't a guise for something else (like the vuln. they discovered). |

nope ... its exactly the same type of service provided to cable internet subscribers
i.e. you pay them for 'up to' 50mb of bandwidth. the key part of your deal with them is the 'up to' it does not mean that you will receive 50mb of bandwidth you can get anything from 250kb to just 20mb and you have to deal with it, and accept it
it is not a product in the same vein as a bottle of cola @ 1 litre where you get exactly 1 litre, and then can legitimately ***** & whine if its only got 995ml in it.
CCP provide an 'up to' server access system.
