This thread normally lives on page 1 of the forums so I am gonna necro it . I have, post odessy been avoiding watching the jump animation as it does make me feel quite poorly, however today I am quite pissed off with it and feel the need to post. I left some items at jita and the thought of going back to get them makes me feel worse, so I am going to log off. This not wanting to play is happening more and more because the jumps just wear me out I have realised that I don`t really travel much in eve anymore, less pvp etc on my main. Eve is the only current game that makes me feel poorly in this way. The whole animation really does suck balls in particular the camera swing at the start .... Then the tunnel effect too is quite bad (sometimes it breaks up and thats not too good ) and the little refocus as you get dragged out is bad too. The whole animation... I unfortunately wear glasses as i have myopia and astigmatism in both eyes and this probably doesn`t help. Also not giving people the option to turn it off out of choice on CCPs part is rather sadistic. |

SKINE DMZ wrote:Physically ill? I am sure there are some valid cases and arguments but many cry babies in this thread they swapped a loading bar with an animation.. That's it, sure do some modifications to it but lets not move backwards. Or request a complete text based version of this game PS Pls keep it I am in love
I`m gonna answer this maturely, it does make me feel quite i`ll as i posted before but i do not worry. Most of my game nowadays is spreadsheeting and stations, it`s like a hobby . It`s worth pointing out that other animations in other games with less of the"flashy flashy and the turning around don`t cause any problems and do the same thing.
It`s also worth noting that CCP knew about this in beta and pushed it through anyways. Thats awesome customer service.
It is unfortunate that this thread is really losing track of what`s going on. The graphic causes a few people physical problems (even if they, like myself are in a minority) CCP knew the graphic caused problems and pushed it through ( probably hoping it would be something the afflicted could tolerate and get used to)
It`s 2 months down the line and the graphic is still causing problems, no hotfix, work in progress or beta to check etc. So you`re in a position where a company is causing harm knowingly without a proper disclaimer and (sorry to say it folks ) no intention of sorting it soon. There`s a kind of liability thing in there somewhere i`m sure.
Now forget the bloody jump thing exists and jut take a look at how the feature was introduced. You guys may be saying HTFU now , but when another part of your game gets savaged , you may not be feeling so clever.

Gogela wrote:No going backwards. A 50% reduction in system loading time is a great gain, and I'm in total agreement that any crappy animation is better than loading bars. It would be cool if it was more like Stargate tunnels or Babylon 5 hyperspace, but it's definitely going in the right direction. If you have visual trouble with the animation you should check this out. Doctor Gogela recommends you shake vigorously. . I agree with the progress thing btw and understand the coding issue to an extent and see it`s kind of all or nothing. It is in essence an improvement but there are clearly problems with it. There have been problems with it from the outset and still there are problems now. The animation just isn`t really good for me ( I can only speak for myself )
The initial camera rotation isn`t a good thing , then I get flashy lights and the refocus at the end... erggh lol.
I have changed my play style a little, I can hover over the minimized window whilst alt tabbed out ok (found that out today ) and will prob do some incursions on my alt a little ( not much gate jumping there either ).
There comes a point when the game runs out of options for me tho and that makes me sad. It`s not a rage quit thing, it`s just the game for me has become very low value.
This thread has gone on for a long time and I entered it late and there has been a lack off CCP presence here. It is just turning into a "if you can`t put up with it you`re a tard " thread. Unfortunately this does nothing to increase the value of the game. The guys that are taking this kind of attitude are just endorsing CCPs`s lack of customer service and action. This will just continue
If the game is going to progress, then everybody has a responsibility to make sure issues get beta`d , launched and fixed in a proper way.
With the dust 514 financial anchor dragging along , we all need to make sure CCP does the most it can with its money in EVE too.

The lack of immersion is one of the biggest problems in EvE as far as I'm concerned... scale is way off, asteroid belts, gas clouds, and complexes have no depth and lack dynamism, and then there's incarna. I'm thrilled CCP recognizes this and is doing stuff about it!!! Just getting CCP to recognize a problem is one of the biggest hurdles to solving it. They'll find the technical solution. As for the trans-system tunnel being beta-y, well I'll grant you that. I've played this game for about 7 years though, and most of the features they put in the game are beta-y initially. The only question that's relevant is "are things better than they were before the addition of this feature", and the answer is decidedly "yes" in this case. Is there room for improvement? You bet. ...but at least they are on it! DUST 514 does indeed suck hard. I've been playing the hell out of it... but I can't imagine it's drawing a lot of EvE resources. The "progress" they've been making with the game is very slow, and the the production value is obviously low. Really low. CCP can't be spending much... and as we learned from Command & Conquer: Yuri's Revenge: " slaves are cheap." boot.ini working? Check. Not getting stuck in gates? Check. Not phantom warping away from things? Check. ...so what's the troubles, bubbles? i feel like you`re kinda getting where some of us are at. But we just need some sort of reassurance something is being done. CCP haven`t posted for nearly a month and that was just a clean up post :(.
I can also understand that you`ve played for a long time and it`s easy to say CCP usually does things this way. This CCP way may need to evolve as gamers become more fickle. The F2P model is becoming so popular because gamers are wanting to subscribe less in general.
Dust has to be a huge resource, it simply cannot be cheap. I`m sure Shaun Decker isn`t working for free for a start . This coupled with the new PS4 means that Dust will absorb huge amounts of time and money to stay afloat.
I`m not sure if the game can just be carried over to the PS4 un altered and check out the direct competition that is about to emerge. BF4 and planetside 2 are just to name a couple. But anyways some of us are only asking to be able to turn off the animation, or get it looked at. It`s just a request and I can`t see why that offends so many people. |

Now they do the typical CCP response and ignore anyone who tells them otherwise...... We are in the minority and until it really hurts their bottom line this is a low priority issue to them put in the "we will get to it soon" this decade backlog....
They have decided that it is worth losing those small amount of people who physically can't play and concentrate on new features to bring more players in...... I want my game playable on my Amiga or else I'm quitting forever! Thx for the bump

With any luck, it *could* be fixed for the winter expansion (somewhen in November). It would be helpful if we got feedback about what in particular during the jump sequence is causing the most difficulty

I popped onto singularity to check things out today and found it a little disappointing on the progress side of things. The camera swing has been smoothed a little i think, and maybe the exit too. It feels a little clearer. Now for the bad news...... Other than that... nothing lol, as it stands the ******** flashy lights that spark in your peripheral vision still do that. I figured out this was a problem for me whilst on a ganked on the weekend. Sat in that ******* tunnel in TIDI is about as much fun as trying to cut off my gonads with a spoon. The animation still stalls for me mid jump (hd6670 med settings, single client ) which sucks too. I kind of get motion-stop-motion. I mean if you can`t get the animation to run smoothly, then whats the point of having it... it just makes people look like frank amateurs. There is an interesting article on the mittani.com that people should read about Dust which hits many nails on the head, I find the lack of CCP feedback in this thread poor to say the least.

I recognize there are a few people that are having a bad reaction to the new effect, and I fully sympathize and look forward to the changes CCP is testing (and likely more tweaks coming) to rectify that issue. But as much as I sympathize, just looking at the number of individual posters in this thread that state they have a bad physical reaction shows that it is affecting a tiny fraction of the player base. Certainly that is more than enough reason for CCP to do their best to modify it to accommodate those people, which is exactly what they are doing. However making exaggerated claims that the new effects are unpopular with the majority of players doesn't help your case at all. went on sisi.. entry is smoother , animation is still choppy on jump and still stops and starts, flashing in the peripheral isn`t needed to give the immersion thing you guys seem to want and in tidi i`m sure it`ll still be terribad. (that`s an assumption with no real proof btw ) I think others have posted that if an off button was enabled, that it would be interesting to see how many would actually use it.
The more I think about it , the more I wonder how someone could actually make this animation so bad? Boost effects and screen edge blurring have caused me no problems before. (eg. in racing games etc.) Played the crap out of skyrim last week and the screen edge effect whilst running on that caused me no problems. I am truly puzzled. And a reminder is that a few of us are only asking for the option to turn it off btw. Some people seem to say they sympathize, but still approve of it being forced on the few.

Guess you're not interested in the thread topic. If you read the thread you would see CCP are working on improving the animation. Whilst waiting for them to improve the animation shutting your eyes, or looking away from the screen is a sensible solution to avoid the nausea.
If you read the thread then you would realise that the look out of the window/close your eyes idea had been posted many times. Sometimes genuine and sometimes as a troll, but either way it`s a very dated and second hand solution by now. Also good advice has been to fly minimised , you can then see the jump animation in the small window and maximise after the animation is finished etc etc.
There are a couple of tweaks on sisi that I urge people to look at, but for me still cause problems. It is still a very much for me " I would like an off button " thread because I would like an off button as even the improvements still cause problems.

Granted, you will have to do what I do and actually read posts that disagree with your opinion... instead of hitting ignore on all of the ones you don't like. I've never disagreed that there is an issue that needs to be (and is being) addressed. That gentleman was attempting to assert as fact that the effect is universally hated... which is absurd.
I`m not really sure where you got the idea that it is being addressed? They have given the usual "we are sorry and are looking into it " and "what in particular is causing the problems" posts and then vanished. The last CCP post was over a month ago on this topic i think . (i`ll check tomorrow) You have been very kind to point the tweaks out on sisi btw Ranger 1 , but the camera swing is just polishing up and nothing towards the solution. In fact really no progress has been made at all in realistic terms. The animation remains the same format ... doing the same thing,,,, causing the same results.... and is still hell in tidi. The claim that CCP is working on it , is itself unsupported. Making it prettier won`t fix it. |

That it's always super-loud is what makes it annoying when doing 30 jumps. Or even 30 jumps on two or three clients
Did you think that different people would just develop issues with the animation? Or did you think that those who have problems and issues would mysteriously cure themselves ?
It kind of makes sense that after no real fix, the same whiners would have the same problem and continue to post. Anyone with an IQ would realise that.
The other problem is that lack of CCP interaction in this thread has frankly made any suggestions her really pointless too. If you have to roll back 20 pages to find a Dev post, then they aren`t gonna roll back to find any feedback. (frankly they had feedback before the animation went live anyways) |

No offense, but if they have worked on smoothing the camera swing that is indeed working on the issue... in fact it's been cited time and again in this thread that the abrupt nature of the camera swing is one of the main issues causing people discomfort.
I suppose folks that insist on an off button, even after being told a firm "No" on that front, should continue to post here. For those that are interested in the work being done to make the effect less likely to elicit motion sickness or disorientation I would suggest posting in the appropriate test server feedback thread... AFTER going to the test server. I doubt they are done making adjustments, so your input will be valuable (plus the right people will be looking at it).
If nothing else I'll put in a word over there. I think little tweaks like slowing down the speed the warp tunnel flows past, or perhaps the addition of a Nav overlay of some type that would give your eyes a fixed point to focus on might be worth exploring (something like our current Tactical View overlay, which can be turned on or off to pop up whenever jumping).[/quote]
Checked on sisi, there are no disclosed changes hence no thread to post into. There has been some beutification which some of us have posted about but anything major would have had some patch notes(of which there are none) The last correct test server feedback request is here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3267065#post3267065
CCP have also asked us to post problems in this thread further back. No offense Ranger but can you pls have a word and get them to hit up a fix, post in this thread there is a fix on sisi so we can try it, post some patch notes and we can start a feedback thread like most other companies do. Or failing that,(as you seem to be able to have a word and they don`t seem to follow any normal fathomable procedure) do we just mail you and get the fix done. Or just put an off buton, **** I jumped 3 times the other day and the animation just failed to load .... happy dayz

Ok ,there is a reality to this whole situation for me. I have waited since June to see how this would pan out with a hope there would at least be some sort of middle ground resolution. I`ve dumbed down the graphics to toaster settings and it`s still been a problem for me even after the recent patch.I`ve looked out of the window... played minimised etc etc. I`ve looked on sisi when people have claimed there have been improvements but i`ll be honest, there hasn`t been that much done to it. Most of the improvements have been to the quality of it or making it more pretty and do nothing to change my game life. I play less because of it, and so Eve for me is slowly got to the point where it is not worth the money ,so i`m looking at what i`m going to keep going and what to cut away. It is clear that the animation is popular, and I do like the idea of it btw but it just causes me problems. It`s easy to get wrapped up in a for / against argument in this thread but that`s not the case. People defending it need to remember that some of us are trying with it, but it still sucks . I am not actually sure where this thread is even going anymore and am inclined to support a recent poster to get it locked. The conversation is very 1 way and it is clear that CCP have decided that they can afford to lose a few of us as a customer base. It may not be cost effective to try and resolve the issue and it has already been stated that there are significant programming challenges to overcome to put in an off switch.I can understand all of this. Fortunately my account subs come pre fitted with a convenient off switch, even if the animation does not :)

constructive feedback was in this thread
feedback thread#
There were a few comments about it causing problems but it was rolled out. After rollout there were a few problems and people asked for an off switch. We got a stern NO which is fine and constructive feedback was asked for in this thread. Nothing more was done untill last patch. (and i have to say those changes were insignificant for myself) The problem now is that this thread is huge and getting lost in translation. A small amount of people want the OPTION to switch it off, nobody listens to them but they keep bleeting away because for them nothing has changed. Nobody has fixed their nausea or whatever else has gone on. Nobody has fixed or answered their constructive feedback, hence they sound like plain old whiners b*tching and moaning.
I personally do not see why the option to turn this off offends so many people. It`s not taking anything away from anybody else`s game. It`s just a request. The thread should realistically only be filled with people who want the off option. It isn`t of any consequence to anyone else`s game.
The best way to fix this thread is to just leave it to people to bleet away untill they unsub, which is what is happening, or get a fix/off switch. It`s also worth noting that the quality of the animation has been improved, possibly as a result of the bleeting in this thread

You just lost a big occasion to shut up... You clearly missed a big opportunity to spot irony. Point still stands, this animation is amongst the most harmless ones in Eve. How do you guys feel about flying frigates then? If this little camera turn really makes you physically sick you should reconsider playing any video games.
I enjoy frig warfare lots, which is why i have a toon in RvB.The camera swing is ok( especially after the improvement) I find the lighting effects durin the tunnel are a pain and the little sharp refocus as you appear in the new system crappy on my eyes. (the same warp tunnel effect in warp seems fine, maybe having a reference point helps, some others have suggested being able to keep some ui open durin jump) The fact the animation stalls and starts mid tunnel I find ****. Sat night still managed to jump through a couple of gates sideways, a few more when it didn`t load the animation at all (which was nice) Being sat in the stupid thing durin TIDI is just crap, and when i`m hot footing a 50 jump round trip in a cloaky that I have to concentrate on flying , I would just like the chace to give my eyes a break. Clean cut screen edge blurring in other computer games seems to be fine . Boost effects in racing games, the running effect in skyrim etc etc.
Maybe the chance to zoom out of the animation would work, I find the fact that you can try and zoom your camera out all the way to avoid it and it just zooms you back in a pain.
Really most of this can be just fixed with an off option. Then the animation can just stay ****. My point still stands though, how does a requested option that makes no impact in your game offend you. If I am able to choose to switch it off and watch my old loading screen it does nothing for anyone else`s game.

Just a quick question for someone who has some technical expertise in how the transition thing is programmed.
How hard would it be to make it so that you can keep the camera zoomed out?. I understand why having 2 options ( ie. animation/ loading screen) would be challenging to program, but being able to stay zoomed out would be a game changer for me. Thx in advance. |

Jesus Ranger 1, I asked a simple question and it got lost underneath a wall of wtf.
When the camera pulls you around to gate, there is a small amount of time when the gate fires up. Would it be possible (in theory) to be able to code it so you are able to manually scroll out the camera view. This would leave a much smaller event horizon as you jump. Of course I know at the moment the animation is fixed camera and in theory if you zoomed out of the wormhole effect no animation exists yet (but you could just do a dumbed down not so whirly and shiny screen edge for tards like myself that have bad eyes.
On landing in new system the camera remains zoomed out and the player just manually scrolls to whatever.
It`s the same animation but you can scroll out to reduce the event horizon, hence avoiding the effect.
Is this possible?
And sorry in advance Ranger for any offence but I think this could be a realistic solution but it`s just gonna get steamrolled by stupid arguments. The real solution is for everyone posting in this thread to be in space. Since this animation came in I don`t pvp on my main so much and that makes me sad |
