Its scary that people can actually become so engrosed in a game they can ignore there bodies to a lethal extent.
An is it just me or is holding a memorial service in the game that actually caused her death seem a little macabre, like holding a service to a guy who died of alcohol abuse in a pub

0_o, just crazy. I myself can't imagine being hooked up with a game that much that it would harm or interfere with my real life.

Rest in Peace fellow gamer.
However, on the other hand, I am temperately angry that idiots like them abuse games and other electronics and give us other gamers a bad name/reputation. --

jesus, if people cannot regulate their own playtime, then perhaps china's restrictions coming in on playtime allowed might save a few lives over there.
A pity such things are so highly addictive. Oh well, RIP snowy.

However, taking a demographic look upon MMO gaming, (Not to be taken as a generalization of all Asian gamers) Asians seem to have a problem separating RL from the artificial one created by persistant world games.
This is not meant to be a racist commentary on the poor girls demise, just an observation of the continual shocking events that come out of Asian countries concerning MMO GAMES!
They are games, meant for fun, not to be an alternative to reality!!!
There is a level of fanaticism here that is as shocking to us as Kamikaze pilots were to the US in WWII.
I just can't fathom playing EVE until I was dead, because I forgot about RL. That's just mentally ignorant.

it might just be a population thing. Asia has has a much larger MMO audience than europe and the US, which is why more of these events are being reported there rather than here.

Also remember china is a country with a lot of unemployment and very good internet conectivity so there are lots of people over there with nothing to do.

Fine, but should they not know when to drink water, or eat some food?
The game consumes their mind, and they lose touch with the real world.
Are their virtual lives that much better than RL that they forget they need food to live? ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE |

Funny point is that even before mmo's in today sense exited I lived in my own mmo, have been a daydreamer all live long. Constant battle to not loose the grip. Eve is better insofar I don't have to log in and can do relative ok, no need to grind for levels.)

This is so bizarre.
Surely a nomination for a Darwin Award?
I simply can't imagine playing a game till I died.... Till I got sacked, or divorced or lost all my friends, that'd be different. Oh wait...

It is certainly true that MMO games are handled differently by the cultures of the far east. I think we've all seen stories of death due to a person or persons over infatuation with a game. Gamers have died from simply ignoring thier bodies and been killed and beaten by other gamers for actions that take place in the game.
I wonder if it will be a matter of time before a UELA contains that a company such as CCP cannot be held liable for the actions of those who take thier game to far be they wrongful death, murder, or felony theft? How long will it be before a story reaches our shores about one player who by killing another player in game via a pirate ambush or war is killed or injured in the real world by his ingame victim? That's already happened in other games such as lineage.
Additionally, I remember a case where the chinese courts awared damages to a gamer in the terms of thousands of dollars when someone stole via hack or piracy (not sure on the specifics) his assets in a game. Will pirates in EVE face legal reprocussions in the real world for engaging in the yarr so common in EVE's fantasy? Will you be ordered to replace ships or indies full of gear or forced to pay a real world monetary settlement? Also of note, CCP's admission that people will be able to buy in game items with cash since it's "part of the MMO culture in the east" and therefore become even more attached to their virtual bits and bytes.
The developments on serenity will be interesting to watch. One wonders how far it will go?

Well, i think we have enough info about the success although some information is missing, like the true cause of the death.
A MMO cannont kill a person but maybe the lack of sleep time can do it. I sopose that he collapsed after being to much time playing at the computer and he didn't wake up after that... sad but it must teach us that 1st is RL no matter how much harsh is our life. -----------------------------

Quote: Several days before Snowly's death, the girl was said to be preparing for a relatively difficult part of the game and had very little rest. She told her friends that she felt very tired.
