It is a dark day for those of us in Malik Enterprises, Inc., for one of our own members whom we have known for over 6 months, commited the most treasonist of acts. One of our members, 'ednel', was given access to a hanger in our base station, so he could put minerals in and take ammo as needed. We thought ednel was a friend and a corpmate...we have known him for a long time... never in a million years did we imagine him to be the worst kind of game scum. While we were away from our home base on an ice mining mission... ednel was taking things from our corp hanger. Waiting until we had to log off to complete his theivery... he stole EVERYTHING, minerals, mods, ships... (thankfully our BP's weren't accessible to him). So I am posting this to let everyone know, if you meet up with him, I advise you to not let him join your corporation. Also, at this time, he is still a member of MEINC... but we are holding him hostage (he keeps trying to remove his roles and we keep giving them back to him ). Quite frankly, we know we will never get our things back... but as long as he isn't allowed to leave our corp... we can hunt his sorry ass down and pod him anytime and anywhere . If anyone has any information regarding ednel's activities prior to this, if he has a history of this, whatever it may be... please post it here or contact me in-game.

I honestly have no clue how corp theieves do what they do. I've been on corps for a while and been nice to them, talked to them over vent/teamspeak and they STILL dont give me access. I dont understand how these people get access...

Question.
If he needs to deposit minerals, and take ammo...
Why did he have any more access than View to the minerals, and Take from the ammo?.
Ask yourself that, stop whining, and realize that its entirely your fault for doing something really dumb. - Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Honey K on 05/11/2005 04:34:57 I believe that holding him in your corp is considered an exploit. If nothing else he can have a GM put him in a nub corp.
Bottom line: you let yourself get scammed. A lesson learned should be worth more than the assets lost

I feel for ya Cassie and.. all you other guys are asses. Someone posts something like this and you call him a whiner/have only negative things to say?
Your solution is to not trust anybody. . . but most people prefer to trust those who are friendly/ have been around for half a freakin year. And this isnt some massive corp that is being targeted by thieves.
anyways, if all you have to contribute is unnecesary negativity, OP doesnt wanna hear it.
This argument can go both ways in my book. I for one am capable of trusting people. good luck in the future.

Why should you give anyone, no matter how much you trust them, access to something they don't need except for purposes of stealing?
I trust people sometimes, and usually its gained both me and the person great reward. I've posted stories in previous threads--look them up, I'm too lazy. But one has to know when to trust and when not.
Generally, my little formula for how much in assets you should give someone access to is (months in corp / 4) * (player's net worth). Meaning you shouldn't give a poor member access to billions in minerals--its simply too tempting. And for new members, it goes without saying. - Proud member of the [23].

Let me clarify...it's not like Ed was a relative unknown to us. He was one of the very first people I met when I joined the game. We were in the same corp and flew many missions together. We always stay up talking and telling jokes into the wee hours of the morning.....We know about his personal life, his RL job, where he lives, what kind of beer he drinks....that kind of stuff.....a developed relationship...MONTHS of daily interaction. He is NOT just some member of our corp. He had access to the minerals because he had been putting a heap of them in himself...and we were collecting up enough to build him a new Tempest...as well as keeping our production running....so, yes....I gave him access. Call me a "whiner" if you wish...but I assure you that my trust is not just "given" away....he had earned it!! I guess that's my mistake. However, the main point of the original post was mainly to warn others about this....not to get rediculed about my access policies. I guess if we had kept this incident to ourselves....he MIGHT just get into someone elses corp, and/life....and rob them blind as well. I know this is just a game....but considering that it's one that we PAY for with our hard earned money and considerable time input....it does become a part of life...and like real life...when you get wronged....it just plain sucks, and makes one angry!!

If there was not enough minerals in your hangar for even one tempest your losses cant be that bad.I have never really seen the need for corps in terms of economic partnerships if u want to mine/mission carebear why do u need a corp? I have achieved significant wealth and success in EVE entirely through my own solo efforts - in fact the one time i was in a large corp they shafted me and i lost isk out of it.I have more bpos than many corps 10 times my size i'm quite sure of that and i have got 2 tech 2 bpos by my own efforts as well.

Sad - but you just can't safe guard your corp 100%.
Needless to say now, that giving more access than needed is foolish. On the other hand, the CEO has to give out priviliges in order to make the corp work.
Getting scammed is an ever present threat to any corp.
Another POV - even corp. member can't know if the CEO just closes down his corp one day and transfers all cash/items to his secret alt.

Yeah I have made like 14bn from corp theft. But its a legit thing to do really, gaining trust is not easy to do. Its real easy to break it though when there is a tonne of free stuff there.
Solution is : Dont keep as much sweet stuff in there.

Other than personal gain does he have a reason for doing it ?
Some players that stoop to this act have usually been subject to a catalyst which has made them flip out, lashing back at the corp that hurt them by hitting them where it hurts. |

He had no reason to do this that I am aware of, other than being a jerk. Everything was fine and he suddenly did this. I realize that my failure was in trusting anyone...and believe me....it won't happen again. We lost a fair amount of stuff...but really not that bad considering we are a young corp...it's just that I F*&$IN' HATE a thief! Anyone that steals...in game or real life...it the lowest form of scum...but..that's MY opinion. The MAIN reason for the original post here, was just to warn potentential victims of his identity...nothing more. I thought it would be a considerate thing to do for the EVE community.

You can''t force a person to stay in your corp like that, so he'll probably have a GM remove him.
Second, you have to relize that when you give a person permission to take from a hangar, it's no more of a theft than someone offering you a box of cookies and you take them all.
Not saying it's right or nice, but it's not really 'theft'. Your Civilian Gatling Railgun perfectly strikes Choke Slam [CAIN], wrecking for 6.0 damage. |

As I already stated, I have released him.....

So, if your good friend, the one you trust with the spare key to your house, comes over and decides that he really likes that new plasma TV you just bought, he can just take it and not say a word, and then disappear, and you wouldn't call that theft....?? Wow...too bad the police and court systems don't see it that way...I could have anything I want...and not have to work a day for it....
Not saying it's right or nice, but it's not really 'theft'.
I'm sorry, but I disagree. Although I do appreciate your input.
AGAIN....I did NOT intend for this to turn into a discussion on in game ethics or morality or access rights or "you should have or shouldn't have" topics. It was PURELY INFORMATIONAL!!

something like this happened once in my old corp. We had a guy in our corp for about 4 m. We gave me accuess to the basic mod and crap. Someone built a scorp and put it in that one, scorp went missing, and she did he :( Scorp was all fitted, and insured. When i logged on i was ****ed (even though i don't fly Scorps). About 2m. ago P.S.T. Pretty much died :P --- murder murder, yes indeed, K-I-L-L-I-N-G

If you give someone full-access to a hangar, you'd be saying "here's my key, you can take and use anything in my house", so you'd be out of luck with that. People don't need access to put stuff into hangars, hell I've put things in corp hangars that I can't even SEE into (yes, funny I know).
Besides, as far as the law is concerned, what do you honestly think CCP is going to do? If someone steals from a 0.0 based system, why would the empires have to go after this person? Or why would the Caldari state go after an Amarrian corp thief? Your Civilian Gatling Railgun perfectly strikes Choke Slam [CAIN], wrecking for 6.0 damage. |

i feel for ya zavyn and im sorry this had to happen. Frankly each one of these people who post saying it is your fault would probably do the same thing in their corp if given the chance or not one of the founding members of the corp allready. Its sad but how the world works. Most of these people play this game because they CAN get away with things they wouldn't be able to do in real life. For instance: killing and robbing :)
but good luck mate and if u have any idea where he hangs out ill war dec whatever corp he joins also!

I feel sorry for yer losses, trust is not easy to gain, yet so easy to lose.... Also making enemies is far much faster than making a true friend....
