Not that I've made any trips myself lately as I'm taking a break from EVE until the much mentioned but as of yet non-existant content gets patched in.
That being said I recently checked out another MMOG out of curiousity after listening to a couple of people rave about it. And let me clarify now, this isn't an attempt to 'convert' any EVE players, just to point out a few things.
The game in question can be found at www.puzzlepirates.com and, as you'll quickly note, it's an entirely different sort of game. In fact my initial perusal lasted maybe a minute or two before I decided it just wasn't my kind of game. However having an acquaintance of mine tell me about the play experience it piqued my interest. The main point of this post, and getting back to the initial subject line, is how they handle certain game dynamics. Most notably the traveling. That game also has journeys that can take a long while, 30 minutes plus. What's interesting is that there are a million things that need doing to 'sail' the ship such as little mini games to increase navigation efficiency, speed, etc. Basically they have very little 'downtime' while you are gaming.
Unfortunately, while I *can* think of a few rough ideas how you could implement something similar into EVE it would require radical changes to the basic philosophy and mechanics of the game that would never happen.
So the solution of course is that you window EVE when you travel and then travel out on a quick excursion in puzzlepirates so that you actually have something to do besides stare at hyperspace ;)

Why not just window EVE and browse the forums like everyone else ? Or check out espn.com and look at sports scores, or something?

Well, I wasn't saying that that's the ONLY option ;) Just one that seemed enjoyable, besides, there seems to be a propensity for a large portion of the populace to enjoy talking like a pirate now and again, so I figured they might like an outlet where they could actually board another ship and defeat them with clever swordplay.

I can't do anything remotely ****-like on video.
My digital camera only records 10 seconds.
12 seconds and it'd be perfect.......

hell, I just watch anime on a neighboring screen while flying long distance. Keep the volume at a good level to hear warning pings, and that's about it. Of course if I'm going through obvious places I stay at high alert. ------------------

Edited by: StarWolfer on 07/08/2003 09:45:23 Yep, on "dangerous" trips I'm reading our corp-forums or the eve-online forums, while checking local and the map for dense area's frequently.
On safe trips (--> empire space, where there is lots of cops at each gate): Taking a shower, eating dinner or watching a movie. Space is so safe there, almost nothing can happen
