Boost the Geddon! No, really. That thing is ridiculous gimped, I mean its a battleship, but it does only thermal and EM damage types, which are completely useless against armor tanks. It does far less damage than any other short-range damage-oriented BS, and can be pwned in seconds by any other ship. It needs so many heatsinks to be useless, that nobody tanks with it.

Mining should be replaced by a DigDug mini-game. You successfully mine an asteroid if you drop a boulder on a bad guys head, should you get killed by one your ship explodes.

I propose the following changes in the interests of balance:
- reduce mining laser yield and range by 24%. Introduce new skills to increase these by 5%/level, for a total of a 25% increase after 2 months of training. It's a buff not a nerf!
- introduce mining laser sizes, Large, Medium and Small. Large lasers will not be able to mine small asteroids effectively, and vice versa. Add a skill to reduce this penalty by 1% per level
- introduce tracking for asteroids - they're drifting through space you know! Now you need a dual webber to hit them. You don't get wrecking hits though
- introduce different damage types for mining lasers. Asteroids now have resistances, you need the right damage type to get the most ore
- introduce a "siege mining laser" module for capital ships. When activated in low sec space the huge energies involved create a system-wide beacon, like a cynosural field. Usage in high sec results in CONCODOKKEN with extreme prejudice
- introduce advanced mining drones, with double the mining yield of before. However their advanced AI is a little unstable, and they have a 10% chance per cycle of going "crazy insane" and mining your ship's hull, and taking the minerals to the nearest Rogue Drone complex. Add Mining Carriers with a bonus to reduce this risk by 1%/level

I collected 500 gallons of whine from this thread.
And apparently none of you have ever mined, sure, you can train mining to 5 and use miner II's, but the most I've ever gotten out of that is 5 mil an hour or so? A real miner would train mining 5, industry 5, metallurgy 5, deepcore mining 5, science 5, and astrogeology 5 just to name a few. Mining should be easy, be proud that you're not a carebear and have the ability to fight for a living as opposed to mining.

Oh yes, make it so you need mining 5 to be able to use miner IIs... it might get the market for named mining lasers back up to the way it was in the good old days...

First of all, the modulated strip miner II`s are nerfed bad enough after they introduced crystal decay.
Second, mining barges are _supposed_ to be good at mining, hence the name.
Third, if they nerf mining even more, more ppl with compensate by using even more advanced macros, and frelling it up even worse than now.
It seems CCP is all too eager to please the kings of 0.0 who control zydrine/megacyte, who most likely is behind this suggestion as well, to further secure their economical power. It is not enough to control rare ore in low-sec, they want to make it harder for players in high sec to make anything at all.
This will not be "balancing", this will be delegation of economical power, and the beginning of poverty within EVE.
Its time to nerf the belts in 0.0 imho, and remove the zydrine/megacyte and come up with some new ore/mineral to substitute it. Right now all nerfing favours a precious few players.

Erm, most 0.0 belts are crap. No better than low sec. One reason effective territorial control is so important - you can't just mine anywhere.

Double the CPU needs and implement the industry skill 'mining upgrades', so that the miners aren't bored because there is nothing more to learn.

I agree, bring in more skills and watch the price of everything rocket up which means us poor miners will get even richer. Since we're doing the mining we will get dirt cheap goods (in comparison to non miners)

IIRC Tux suggested capital miners but Oveur started to through stuff for suggesting it...

"please reduce yield per cycle on miner II's there way over powered and make it so theres more skills to mine so you have like to train a bunch of skills to actually use t2 lasers so like mining 5 etc like it is with turrets."
Dont forget that T2 miners use a lot of CPU, so unless you have good elec/engineering skills you lose low/med slots to copro's and rechargers/relays.
Extra mining skills would be cool, though I dont think mining needs to be "nerfed" since its the one basic skill/occupation that new players can do with ease, and with the cpu usage from various lasers gives them a good understanding of how the grids work. |

Why dont we nerf EVERYTHING, so you have to fly around, Bumpageddons will be the new craze as all you can do is shove people out of your way to go anywhere.

Edited by: Hobblin I on 07/11/2005 02:50:32 Lower the current yield by 50% and the up the time on mining lasers by 25%.
Add skills for better yield and shorter cycle duration.
Before this, find a way for new guys to have a chance in this game. Eve probably loses a good percentage of new players because they realise the most useful thing in this game for a newb for the first 1-2 months is to find a corp and mine.

These skills already excist, and they take a loooong time to train.

Nah add collision damage to asteroids in mining belts.. that'll be a nerf to mining... or make all of them have mercoxit style clouds with a min radius of 15km.

We don't want the Devs to be either dictators or slaves, we want them to rationalise what they propose and be open to discussion. Some Devs manage this very well, whilst other fall flat on their arses. One even comes across more arrogant than me.
