I dabbled with 40k, but the influence of my "proper wargames" background meant that I always preferred Dirtside. Full Thrust was a great fleet starship combat game.
The miniatures were cheaper, too.

Seem to be bucking the trend here, I started playing 40k after going to uni. Only on the holidays though when I'm home and there are no girls around. Got a nice sized tyranid army going, mainly because they remind me of watching Aliens. **************** Pain is a way of knowing yourself; Death is the ultimate in self-discovery.

Stopped playing like a decade ago. Still have the miniatures around though. Mostly Fantasy (Undead and Empire).
I've been thinking about modding and painting my unfinished chaos army. It used to be a quite relaxing activity.

I remember playin back when it was "Rogue Trader". Sheesh, long time ago. Played Space Hulk (gotta love those terminators), 40k, WHFRP, Dark Future (anyone else remember that?), WHFB, Bloodbowl etc. Loved Eldar/Harlequins (never could get an all Harleq fighting force to work).
and still play other PnP RPGs. So any RPrs out there , put out a shout! I've been wanting to do more RP in Eve for ages.

I'm getting better and better at taking miniature pictures, hopefully once armed with a set of prints that do my painting justice, I'll be able to sell this army at the local GW shop soon. Really don't think I'll find anyone in my area to play with, as much as I'd like to, heh.

i spent way too much @ GW, thenn i gotta computer n waste my money on mmog's :/
40k:
Space wolves: easily field a 9,000-12,000 pt army. Imperial Guard - Praetarian (limited edition), Mordian Iron Guard? or simalar named. 3,000-5,000 pt army.
Warhammer:
Bretonians: (sp) 3,000-4,000 pt army. Chaos: 2,000 pt army.
BloodBowl: Undead.
Gorkamorka or sumin O.o.
Then theyre was Space Hulk, and a small "40k epic" eldar army.
i was **** at playing the game :/ but was fun at the time.

I didn't so much play 40k as just paint.
I think I played like once, and it didnt really do anything for me. I just used to enjoy painting them.
Haven't touched them for prob 10 years or so, though I still have a tank thing sat on my window sill
Oh yeah, Ultra Marines ftw

Used to collect and play, not any more. Inquisitor interested me though (the roleplaying one with only a few characters) - great background to set an RPG in

Yeah I've got a bunch in the closet somewhere.
I need to dig them out and repaint them, but I suck at painting :(

Imperial Guard, Imperial Guard, followed by some more Imperial Guard. You wouldn't believe how glad I was when I heard of Winter Assault.
Thou I do have a Necromunda gang these days, and I'm being half tempted by some of the pics I've seen of the new wood elves for fantasy.

Remind me about The Maze.

Yeah, I used to play about 5 or 6 years ago. Used to have a Chaos army. Gave it up and spent my money on alcohol instead.

Bought a imperial Gurad army played 12 games won all 12 and thought it was the most boring army ever.
loved fantasy battle early edition like early 1980's for all you young people when yopu could actually tell your regiments to form wedges and lines and all that stuff instead of just blocks.
Also used the realms of chaos books and used the warbands system from them which was really awesome.
Rogue trader rules for 40k ever see a scout squad take down the elder avatar? Graviton guns FTW :)
Sadly the games now days from games workshop are for the kids and dont involve any stratigic thinking.
If you want strategic games play some of the Avelon hill boardgames or the likes of Ogre ( steve Jackson games ) or Babylon 5 wars ( Agents of gaming ).
Example of current games workshop games Player 1: rolls D6 Player 1: I get a 3 Player 2: rolls D6 player 2: I get a 2 player 1: woot i win!! Player 2: no way I get a re-roll says it here in paragraph 27 subsection 12 Player 1: WTF?

I had a small Ultramarines army in 40k but mainly played Space Marine and Warhammer FB
Space Marine: Squats (land train 4tw!) Chaos Marines
Warhammer: Dwarves Undead Chaos
My last project was a roman-style army based on the dogs of war regiments they released and then sold off cheap through mailorder when people didn't buy them much - that project stopped halfway and I have had a large crate of unpainted models sat in my flat for 5 years or so. :)

Hah girls killed warhammer for me as well. It's messed up how there are adults who still play maybe they never got laid?
It's really rediculous how much the models cost. I pity the parents.

I don't play, but I love the gothic backround fiction so I collect the army books.
Does that make me weird? I mean weirder than the average 40K geek? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone should read the EVE Tracking Guide. |

Anyone resd the Black Library Novels?
I've got 42 of the 40k novels, I think I still need about 15 more, hoping to buy the rest by the end of this year. Finding a copy of Farseer will be a nightmare though.

Very good painting, Istavaan. I had a tomb king army, which won a prize at a regional contest once. (I blended the shields on the whole army to look like a giant sunset all together)
Although, yours looks much better than mine

Play 40k? PLAY 40k?!?!
The staff at the local Games Workshop are pratically my surrogate parents. I kinda grew out of it once I got a girlfriend though. This thread makes me want to run up to the attic and dust my Space Wolves off.

I didnt have a big army, but i used to have a few damn nice items like a Basilisk artillerty platform that was done up like a million quid. Looks absolutely brilliant with custom made camo-netting etc.... its a shame that after 3 years on display in my room, my mother knocked it off and it disintegrated on impact with the floor, i could of cried, it was my pride and joy.
I loved Imperial Guard.
This was all about 8-9 years ago.

I don't like to think about the huge amount of money I dropped into that game.
I had a SM army (2 heroes, 10 terminators, 60-70 troopers, 2 dreads, bike squad, 2 land speeders, 3-4 tanks) A tyranid swarm (2 princes, 2 carnifex, 150+ other varied types) I even bought a whole Tau army of approximately the same size, but I never had time to assemble and paint it, and I resold it all later...
The worse is, I played maybe a dozen times total.
Damn, all that money for so little use, Damn GW for creating such a game and overpricing it.
Now, I simply play Dawn of War.
