id rather want an AK... but i guess gore and cruises dosnt mix unless you work in the kitchen *shrugs* ____________ The cargo bay is overloaded and cannot be made to fit Expanded Cargohold I. It is currently only capable of fitting 8772.12 units and it is currently jammed full with 9558.33 units. |

i don't get it.
the pirates had 2 speedboats, and were armed with rocket launchers and AK's.
The cruiser (a holiday cruiser!!) only made a lot of noise and they just legged it. Seriously, wtf?

The pie-rats where also in speed boats and a relativly small cruiser was doing top speed into the open oceans. There is a point where those speed boats would have ran out of gas trying to get back to base.
Not to mention, smoke dectors are pretty annoying, I can only imagine what is like to be hit with a beam doing 2x the sound level.

No, they pointed directed sound beam weapons at them, which are basically instantly defeaning on the highest settings and can cause you to black out. - Proud member of the [23].

The more advanced versions emit undetectable subsonic soundwaves that cause severe nausea and disorientation, even so much to the point that you can't tell which way is down.

One thing that bothers me, its nice we have non-lethal weapons when it leads to caputre, but now these guys will just on to *****and kill another ship.

I expect the next thing we'll hear is the pirates will be sueing the cruise company for assault! :-( And they'll probably win!

It's cool they've got stuff like this now, electrified barriers would also be a possible deterrent on cargo ships, and high-pressure water hoses too.
Regarding lethal force, a merchant ship with deck guns or an armed crew, is no longer a merchant ship as far as international law, territorial sovereignty, etc are concerned. You pull that stuff, you lose your insurance cover, you get de-flagged by whichever country where you are registered, and consequently go out of business because without having your documents in order, any place you show up will roll out the Coast Guard and impound you until some offshore entity buys your ship for scrap, while the local ministries organise your extradition.
I'm not kidding, merchant ships and firearms really don't mix.
You do get exceptions, the British nuclear transportation fleet has deck guns, but they're British-flagged, partly manned by Navy personel and these days have a frigate escort. As for shipping cars from South Korea like that...not going to happen.

Most "speed boats" can be out run by Cruise ships. Large ships can be very fast.
Actual "racing" boats can be different, but even with racing boats, there are limits. Racing boats cannot use their full speed on open ocean, or they WILL wreck. Still, with calm seas a true racing boat could out run a cruise ship. But then you have to factor in the sonic weapon.
As for my own opinion, I STRONGLY favor using lethal weapon on such pirates. If they are not killed, they will keep trying until they succeed.

well crew on holiday cruisers are civilians, and may not be allowed to use lethal weapons. (and may not be able to aim correctly) Also using lethal wepons on pirates, by people not prepared, may just lead the pirates to kill everyone on board if they cant repel the attack.
Another non-lethal weapon are microwave beams.
Btw this topic should be in out of pod forums not here imo

And you think giving them really really bad headaches is going to make them any nicer?
Also, microwaves can be very leathel very easily I'd rather be shot then have my insides boiled.

not willing to fight at least yes. Also it's easier to aim and hit (because it affects a wider area than a bullet) with that beam than to hit with an ak or an rpg at full speed in the sea. Not to mention that killing someone else is unacceptable and traumatic for most western people.

Those people are trying to feed their children, so you can't really blame them. Most pirate attacks these days are more like thievery where they climb aboard and steal a raft or two, maybe a bucket of paint left at the forecastle. Attacks like this with RPG's etc are very rare and at best done in desperation (someone firing an RPG at an LPG tanker carrying some 15000 tonnes of liquid gas hasn't really thought it through), so I'd rather they used non-lethal weapons like this to force the people into finding other - more lawful - means of feeding their family. There's a reason these attacks happen almost exclusively in the third world...

Also, if you pucture an aireliner with a gun it won't pop like a ballon either.
Also, **** them feeding family BS. That is the biggest load of BS ever. Family men don't go about killing innocent people for stuff.
