650mm medium Gallium I Cannon has Optimal @ 9740m with 17km accuracy falloff. An artillary cannon with 9740m optimal range? It doesn't look like an artillary to me. Am I misunderstand the relationship between these 2 value and how it affacts my aiming?

i've read that tutorial just that optimal range is shorter then the accuracy falloff doesn't make any sense to me.

Why?
You can only shoot accurately with a pistol at a short range, but you can shoot relatively inaccurately with it for quite a distance. - Proud member of the [23].

Optimum is where u hit for 100% damage, optimum+falloff is where u hit for approx 50%, optimum+2*falloff is definately end of range

Edited by: Second Eye on 09/11/2005 01:11:15 autocannon fits more like pistol category.
an artillary with 0.032rad/sec tracking speed, optimal at 9740m aim best, and 50% at 9740m + 17km, 0% at 9480m + 34 km just doesn't seem right to me to be categorized as an artillary cannon. what good is this piece of s**t to deal dmg with this short optimal range and slowares tracking speed?
you tell me what kind of pistol is this; the stats itself telling me that this artillary sux my ares and don't use it.
is that the whole idea CCP create this cannon in the first place?

A 650mm Gallium has an optimal range of 17.7km and 17.5km falloff with no skills. The reason you see such a short optimal is that you have short range ammo loaded (probably emp). With the correct ammo you can even get 28.3km optimal (and even longer with skills).

Artillery is designed to have decent optimal and huge falloff, vs railguns that have great optimal but horrible falloff.
See Hoshi's post above--you probably have short range ammo in it. - Proud member of the [23].

You must not be to familiar with the concept of "artillery". By its very nature, it's got an incredible range - but it's hardly known for its accuracy.

In fact, prior to the advent of sattelite and lasers you used to have to sneak soldiers close enough to a target with binoculaurs to see if you were hitting anything at all.
Artillery has never been known for its accuracy, even post sattelite and laser targetting.
You want accurate over long distance, you need missiles (irl, I have no idea in game yet heh).
