Another tip:
Use EVEwho.com
That webbsite will show the current members but more important also members that left. Look at the list, if you wee that most members only stay in corporation for a very very short time, try to find out why. Are you in need of some nice chat? Are you new and want some help? Avoid:
* Don't contract them your gear to move to the base of operations of said corp before joining the corp. They will steal your **** and wont accept you either.
* If someone states they are recruiting for another corp but are not a member of said corp. Block them- you are about to be scammed somehow.

Just one small addition, if you're advertising yourself make sure to add your timezone (this is something recruiters need to remember as well in their corp ads). Also add if there's any region you can't operate out of (this is unlikely for a new player unless you've really been hitting those storyline missions.)

Just to add a bit more to this regarding corp size, set them up in your contact list so they show up in local then go to where they operate to see how many really log on.
This is particularly useful in mixed timezone corps where the bulk of the players may be on at a different time to you, and this can get real lonely.
If the corp doesn't say where they operate from (and the HQ isn't always a guide) then look them up on Eve Who to get some names of the members and use locator agents to check where they are based. You'll probably need to do a couple of names as it can be a bit hit and miss. If you are really new you will probably have to ask someone to do this for you until you can access Level 4 agents and do it for yourself. |

Another thing to watch out for is corps that are build based on RL friendships. Mainly cause people will take sides to help real life friends over being correct.
The same counts with joining a corporation that has been around for a long time, it's not unknown that longer relationships in a corp are valued above "the new guy". Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

This is correct. You can leave a corp whenever you want to (still a bit unclear on the rules but seems that even if you have roles you can instantly drop to an NPC corp, but if you have roles you have to wait 24 hours after removing the roles before you can join another player corp).
There is no harm in having an NPC corp in your employment history, but some prefer a bit..cleaner look (especially if you just scroll down and see a long list of corporations in the history, and dont actually check what the corporations are, it can make a recruiter think you have been in more player corps then you actually have been in).
But keep in mind that every corp your in will be in your employment history permanently, and recruiters can use this to track where you have been and what you have done. Thats why you should consider the corporations you join carefully.
However, joining a corp like EVE uni, BNI, RVB and similar "training" corporations is not something that genrally will raise warning flags with recruiters.
Thank you for the nice comment and bump! Its appreciated

seriously your extremely helpful. i dont think i have gotten this quality and sheer amount of help in any other game before. why cant there be more recruiters like your self out there (as im sure im a lil too green to join up with your corp), as you seem to be very helpful and i think most importantly...available.
now im not sure if a recruiter also does some training, but just being available is usually half the battle to become a trainer/recruiter, i would imagine.
even though im not in your corp, i feel a one on one connection with you, (see how there should be more of you) that im hoping i get with BNI when i start getting into it. |

Confirming that NC is a good teacher. She is one of the very few helpful people in EVE that will spent their time helping others. Tip: join their public channel, if she isnt there, there are usually others that are just as helpful.
And a recruiter doesnt have to be a trainer but a lot of the times they are, mainly because they are also the ones that got you in the group and try to make you feel comfortable there. But it is also not uncommon that others in the group do tue teaching part.

Keep in mind, new players, that members of the same corporation can shoot each other legally in all areas of space.
There's not much reason for people to do this to you (chances are you don't have anything worth going to that much effort to steal), but you can do it to others.
Look for a corp and keep in mind some of the OP's comments. Get into it, then pick the time to strike and burn/steal everything.
One blemish on your corp history is easily talked out of - just tell a future recruiter that you decided to leave because a corpmate started doing something abhorrent (making jokes about the Holocaust, or linking Justin Bieber videos in corp chat, or something vile like that) and you decided to shoot them and leave. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. Very good guide!
Recruiters are usually the ones that are the ones new players ask most of the questions too and most of us are more than willing to help people we bring into our groups.
Be careful of the "used car" sales approach where they say if you don't join today that you will not be able to join later as the spot will be gone. These guys are looking to fill bodies to throw where they want.
Also want to add that if you know what type of ships you want to fly, ask your recruiter if they have a place for your ship preferences, as a lot of (especially null sec corps and alliances ) have doctrine ships they want you in most of the time and might not use the ships you want to use.
Of course, doctrine ships change from time to time. But finding a group that allows you to use a type you want would be best.
Also, If you been in a corp for a while and have a decent handle on what is going on, ask if you can help your recruiter out if you want more responsibilities. This will give you main requiter more time to play the game instead of having to sit somewhere to talk to new guys and will appreciate the help, even if you are just screening them for him to view later. Angry Happy Fun time is recuiting pilots wanting to take over the world! Contact me if you want details and all the fun stuff!

A lot of useful tips in that post and they have now all been added! I would also like to point you towards this guide, because i suspect you might have a few things to add there as well
General:
Thank you everyone for the bumps and comments. As usual i hope someone has been able to find their "forever" home by using some of the tips in this guide, and i hope that people will continue to show this guide to new (or old) players who struggle with the corp search. Its much appreciated!
CCP:
Please give us a higher character limit because now i only have a few 100 characters left to use. And since this is such a broad subject with so many small (and some big) things to cover its very hard to make sure everything gets included. Either that or use a magical wand or something and give me an extra post to use on the first page so i don't have to make a third version of the guide
Also, i want to say thank you for adding this to the EVE New Citizens Q&A Resources, its much appreciated and it means a lot Phoibe Enterprises official recruitment thread The Eve Reader - -áAudio Recordings of Eve Chronicles

I reviewed this post often when I began my search for a new corps and wanted to make my way into either null sec or in my case wh space. Maybe these points will be of use to some of you.
1. I talked to several corps. I know this sounds crazy because I am not anything special, but I made it clear at the beginning that I would be taking a critical look at the corporation and that I would not make a decision to apply until I was satisfied.
2. When accepting a conversation I did a quick check of the corps, its membership numbers and life span. I was surprised by the number of 2 man corps who were more than willing to recruit.
3. I insisted on a voice interview. If a recruiter was only willing to chat but not voice convo, I was polite but knew that I would not be joining. When I was on voice I asked questions which are basic to practically every circumstance. Who? What? Where? When? and How? I also wanted to have a clear discussion about the future plans and goals of the corps and its role in the alliance or its overall structure. I didn't accept, that we log on and blow **** up as an acceptable answer. My follow-up question was even more difficult. Given your "plan" where are you in the plan, and what areas do you feel like you need members to improve. Again unacceptable answers ranged from "we need more pilots to pew pew" to "we really need a qualified FC."
4. I intentionally sent my full api and awaited a response from the corps inviting me to apply. I also decided that the way that process was handled, showed a lack of leadership and lead me to decide that I wouldn't make the actual application, but would instead continue my search.
5. In my circumstance, I also make it clear that voice communications, meaning lots of people talking and socializing with one another was important. I surprised by how many corps didn't. One of the main reasons for me wanting to be drug into the chat channel was to gauge the response of the corps rank and file with a new member present.
6. There is a channel called "unemployed", which is spam free, where the individual looking for a corp can post a line. Its the opposite of the recruitment channel. I had more success with that channel than I did any other resource when it came to finding corporations that were looking for players. |

Thanks for the guide, I think I'm going to find it very useful in finding a Corp. |

Woeful Animation wrote: A lot of text about how you interviewed corps.
Spoken like a true beaurocrat.
Unemployment channel is excellent.
Finding corps that will let you tag a long until you decide whether or not to join (and are still willing to engage you in coversation when you go somewhere else) is much more useful.
I work in corporate america. I can make a plan and lie to you all day. You're better of seeing a corp in action a few times. |

Well now i feel really embarrassed I was sure that i had included the channel "Unemployment" in there (its possible it accidentally got cut during one of the many many edits and changes with the space restrictions).
Its now included, and while there is a thank you note to Woeful Animation i could not link it due to having...well about 50 characters left
Who knows, maybe i need to make version 3.0 and reserve a couple of extra posts Phoibe Enterprises official recruitment thread The Eve Reader - -áAudio Recordings of Eve Chronicles

As a new player myself and currently looking for a corp that suits me well (and vice versa), this is surely the "Post of Enlightement". Thank you for everyone involved in making this great guide. A bump it needs ? A bump it will surely get! (though I would rather hope it got stickied, so nobody will miss it...)
