As the electronic frontiers expand, international boundaries contract. What is unacceptable in one country may be the norm in another. Old becomes new and the cycle repeats itself again and again.
We live in an age where political correctness now rules. People take offense to the words or actions of another at the slightest provocation. What once was the exception has now become the norm.
Over the past 10 days, we were just as culpable of bringing political correctness into EVE as anyone else. Based on the actions of one player and incomplete research, we changed the name of a corporation. In the process, we did something that accidently offered insult to that corporation.
So, here we stand on the 11th day. After further research, some discussion with members of 4S and more internal discussion, the name of the 4S corporation will be restored. You can read more about this in Oveur's new Dev Blog.
We are doing this because of the reasons Oveur stated in his blog. We are not doing this because of the protests staged in Jita yesterday or on the forums. Those that broke the terms listed in the EULA, ToS and forum rules have been punished and those punishments will stand. There are other ways to protest a decision, including e-mailing myself. Breaking the rules is not in the list of acceptable ways to protest a change.
Effective immediately, the 4S Corporation will have their name restored. The open topics of old discussion will be locked. New discussion may continue in this thread.
To those inadvertently insulted by the name change, I offer an apology. As I stated, our intentions were based on current policies and humanitarianism.

Good decision.
I hope this will bring consistency in all actions CCP will make on this issue.

I'm glad that CCP and 4S worked it out.
I'm also glad that those that were culpable in the Jita affair will remain banned.
Peace.

Kudos to you CCP. You showed you had the guts to do the right thing and state an apology. Once again you showed me and the tens of thousands of people playing this game why EVE is unique. Why EVE is better. And why EVE only will get better.
Thanks :)

Edited by: Mr Lynx on 09/11/2005 21:54:47 Glad to see a name that has existed from the beginning of EVE history restored. Let that be the only history for this name to be associated with from now on, as it should have been in the first place.

Rod, Avon and the 15 4S members that already canceled their accounts.
In any case, I can appreciate the difficulty of swallowing your pride and admitting you are wrong, but lets leave the lauding at that. They corrected a decision that should never have been made in the first place after a far too long lag time.

Nice one CCP. There's going to be people now who're gonna say "OOOH CCP you failed to abide to your decision just because of the whiners yadayada", but to me it takes more balls to realize a wrong decision, as stated by lots of well-though posts by lots of players, serbs or not, and fix it.
Go CCP!

Still not good enough imho. You made it perfectly clear that those alternative avenues were closed in an earlier post.
Do the right thing.
Edit: Added for clarity:
Originally by: kieron Every once in a while, something happens in-game that raises controversy. It may be a change to game mechanics, changes to set of weapons, or a wide range of other possibilities.
If you are a recent forum visitor, you would have noticed a number of threads about a recent pair of corporation name changes. The topic generated a lot of discussion, the actions reviewed and a decision made. The results of the decision can be found in a new Dev Blog.
As stated in the blog, this is not going to be a popular decision with a number of players. However, the decisions made will not be reversed. I would ask that petitions, forum posts, and e-mails cease.

Kudos to 4S for getting their name back, I hardly knew ye anyways, but good for you.
Kudos to CCP for enacting punishments on persons related to the incident. Such acts can not be tollerated, and no matter my personal problems with CCP DEV's or EVE I will always support the right of CCP to enforce policy and make decisions affecting the EVE community. Its your game, we just play in it.

Edited by: ElweSingollo on 09/11/2005 22:05:27 Hmmm dunno at the end of the day it is Eve GM's desicion if it was done wrongly then fair enough, the only problem now is that even though Keiron say to the contrary and I am sure it is the case every 2 bit corp with what they think is a life or death greivance is going to resort to similar tactics merely cause they believe GM's caved into the 4S corps ultimatum.
Well kudos to the Devs for changing there minds on it and admitting they were wrong... I supported there stance on it with regards to there right to change the name and I guess I support them changing there stance but I do have reservations about they desicion change only for the reasons stated above.
Edit:
Oh and thsoe responsible for the protest in Jita should still be puncished their actions were inappropriate.

It's the policy of CCP, GMs and even ISD to never discuss warnings, bans and other actions with any third parties. So unless you were banned we will not discuss it with you, or publically at all.
