Well, I'm neither forgetting or forgiving (unless the T3 re-balance is really, really good), I"ll just have to shoot my way though my malcontent. Violence is an appropriate means of resolving conflicts in EVE ONLINE.

Eternum Praetorian wrote:I have not logged in for a good long while. My reasons for not, are various and irrelevant to this post. Evidently, unless I am missing something... there will never be an epic log in screen for EVE Online again. The new launcher (at lease to me seems to have) eliminated the epic log in page. This Brings Me To My Important Topic (worthy of trolling no doubt) An audience is a fan base. Be it a cult following for a movie or a video game, it does not matter. A fan base has an invested emotional involvement in a product/production. A log in screen is a big part of EVE's emotional involvement. A new expansion comes and we are greeted with a new and awesome log in animation. It makes us feel like we are in a new version of the same old tired universe and it compels us (or tricks us) to continue playing. Such things reinforce an emotional investment. An investment that your revenue is based upon and yet your business model does not seem to fully comprehend. A Jukebox and colorful asteroids were also a part of many individual's emotional investment. Simple things like engine trails, which were taken out and then returned, are another example of emotional investments. Golden Amarr ships was another big one (pilots emotionally invest in their race) Geometric lights on alien-looking worlds (not earth-moon-mars look-alikes) Black not military (stupid) green Navy Megathrons were an emotional investment. (I remember when I started how awesome the solid black silhouette of a navy raven looked and how much I wanted to mission in one)These are just some basic examples. Another one is our old portraits. No matter how hard we tried we could not come close to making our new ones look even remotely like our old ones. The Amarr had some pretty cool head dresses that I don't think they have anymore, and Eternum here was defined by a cool set of forehead tattoos. Not face tattoos, not why-do-i-need-ray-ban-sunglasses-in-space....but jagged, solid black tattoos on my forehead. I was emotionally invested in the appearance of my character. Hell, even the old style of the old forums were an emotional investment to many. It is a simlpe thing I know. It may even be a stupid thing, but is is a very real thing. So...If there is a setting that will allow me to see a log in animation again I would love for someone to tell me about it. If not, I will just add it to the list of emotional investments that have been removed from the game. Just in case anyone of relevance at CCP ever reads this thread, I will offer you a small (and humble) pearl of wisdom for you to consider. "Enhancing something does not mean changing it's original form. If you deviat from the original inspiration then you have not enhanced the original inspiration, you have only changed it. " Now you may not care to consider this and adapt your current business model. But consider the following. A truly great idea is like lightning in a bottle and it does not come very often in a lifetime. You need to try and stay true to it, because if you change it you may end up altering what made it that "special something" in the first place. You may end up mutating it into something that was not so charming, inspiring and/or all around "more then the sum of it's parts". End post. Oh, and while I am at it... changing the EVE Menu design after how many years? Bad, bad idea. I still have not gotten used to the assets options in station. Every-time I try to mess with it , it reminds me that "this eve" is not the same eve as I originally subscribed to more then half a decade ago.
if nothing else, make the launcher full-screen and make it epic like the login-screens used to be. Now it looks like a cheap website.
speaking of websites, for the love of god spend some money on web development. Your website is the biggest clusterfuck... srlsly. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=118961

We need more como options maybe some knifes to fit on a a ship hull along with some military boots on ship engines..coz like this it is most ret@rded thing anyone did to space ships(game/movie/tv show or any other medium) painting them in como..
and thus we must keep em..that's line of thought with some ppl apparently.

CCP board are more money motivated, if you look at companies that just value high short term returns you will see they don-¦t do emotion on any level, its all ayn rand type stunted behaviour.
CCP changed, is it becoming what the Icelandic banks became?
probably will end the same way! I got probes from the Rookie-á tutorial, they are indestructible, unforgettable and will never need to be replaced, but maybe i will eventually upgrade them to Sisters that are also unforgettable, indestructible and will never need to be replaced. Why is military designs on a military ship a bad thing?
Why is it worse than any other colours on a spaceship?
It doesnt matter what colour your ship is, sensors still detect it.

Did you ever see proper Navy Megas and the like? They were cool ships, now they are all faggoty and rubbish Digital Camo in space is THE dumbest idea ever, and corresponds directly to CCP wanting to sell little plastic models of ships.
Vigilant...fagged up. Navy Mega...fagged up. Damnation...fagged up. Malediction...fagged up.

Camo on the mega specifically looks quite good and visually balanced since the remodel. Caldari navy ships on the other hand... |

I've been playing for just over a year and I have to admit I'm feeling this too. Here's what I've noticed so far that's changed. The log in screen, major impact to me. Along with the login screen was the ominous music that used to go along with it. (Yeah I play with sound because it adds to the experience). And the biggest thing in my oppinion is Aura. The first time I logged on to eve I heard the "connecting" sound and got chills down my spine. It make me stop and go "wow this is awesome!" Then I started the broken tutorials and she talked to me the whole time! It was amazing! Even if it was not completely correct.
So yah, as a slightly over 1 year player I am already having some major nastalgia for awesome things of the past. Jump effects will never take the place of the loading screen or aura. Bring those back!!!! |

hahahahaha You appear to have someone's stupid idea sticking out of your eye
It's actually the brain button. Designed to coalesce a sparse collection of neurons and perpetuate/stimulate short bursts of minimalistic thought. As you have observed his is defective and works better at tuning in EVE Radio. |

I completely agree. It may seem like a small thing, but the little things matter.
I'm a fairly new player...I saw the login screen exactly one time before they took it away. Despite being a new player, I still miss it. Every single time I log in I think wishfully about the brief moment of excitement I had with the previous login screen before it went away.
It was inspiring...it inspired me to play the game. Then it inspired me to come back and play again.
For a new player, it was a glimpse of what lay ahead.
I cannot imagine the series of design discussions that led to the decision to abandon the login screen, but whoever made that decision made a mistake and EVE is a lesser place for it.

agree, i started in 2009 and it was dominion (i think?) and when that screen hit the first couple months I was playing I felt really connected and engaged in the kickass space game where I could do whatever the hell i wanted and blow stuff up.
i still get chills every time i hear the first few chords of that intro music. And all the ones since then have been pretty good too, new tune, but similar theme that really excites you to start playing. the silent intro is what kills me the most - the pictures were nice, but the music was kickass |

Well, it certainly made Blizzard rich...
The day CCP codes together a bot program that slaps 30 day forum bans on anyone who says "can I have your stuff?" the overall average IQ of the EvE forums will quintuple overnight. |
