While it is currently possible to save the overview tabs and checkboxes... what would be be INCREDIBLY nice is to save the selected/deselected states (e.g. whether a person in your corp/alliance shows up on the overview or not).
This single thing is quite possibly THE MOST painful and time consuming part setting up the overview. Because you can never get it right, know for sure if it's working right, and even if you did everything right the overview will sometimes glitch and won't do anything.
If it isn't possible to save this part of the overview... then move the files serverside... if that isn't possible then scrap the whole overview and start over. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

3 pages and no one mentioned import/export fittings in EFT format!
When I get a fit from a friend or a km or EFT I want to be able to get it into my client with ctrl-v. I want to be able to copy them out of the client with ctrl-c.
Dealing with the list of xml files somewhere in my filesystem is a pain when I don't care about files in the first place. I only want to export to file when I'm saving ALL of my fits for backup or a new character.

Already been said but pretty much saving everything except graphics would be great.
Saving to CCP server automatically, and it loads up whenever the account/character logs onto a new computer would also be handy.
I never thought of it, but sharing settings within a corporation much like fittings would be a great idea. |

Everything stored on the server would be nice. Also different settings profiles that are the same but adjust window placement to match if you change screen resolution on different computers. The ability to export and import all settings to a config file with the touch of a button, and have it populate. So you can easily uninstall and reinstall you client if it decides to go mental.
With reference to Mac users as well. The settings files are too deep in the filing directories to easily find and manipulate , it should be easier if anything. Employing the ability to either one click save all your settings to a config file as mentioned above. Including bookmarks.
On bookmarks It would also be a nice feature to be able to remotely share exploration bookmarks between players through exploration journals. Also the ability to import export bookmarks to files that don't take up bookmark slots that you can load back on your interface if you need them again. So when you run out of bookmarks you can easily remove and index them for later use allowing Also would be nice to see a few overview templates available with the basic forms rather than just the one default All tab. So a user could easily set up an overview which had complete template tabs already made for common uses, such as Travel, PvP, PVE,Drones, Exploration, Mning. Also putting the filter states in the correct order or prority. Also would be great to allow fits to be able to import and export them through the in game browser from browser text files. |

I just want to set the the HUD and Overview once and import it to other characters.
Still have to set Tabs, Still have to move windows around etc...
Export all settings in the game, and import them ALL to another character... Returning to the game after a break and a fresh install can be a pain in the ass having to go through everything. It would just be nice to get it right once and be able to replicate it accross accounts/characters. |

I usually make a backup of the settings directory, so i think the best is a settings export mechanic saving as much client/character configuration as possible, overviews, tabs, drones groups, probe filters, etc. |

You mean Excell format?
All I want is to click the dam thing "Import" or "Export" and it does directly to the specific folder without having to alt tab yadaya, I understand PC nerds love clicks and alt tabs shift+CTRLs and alts while F1+whatever crap because they feel smart, but it's such a pain in the butt !! 1) What settings would you like to have stored? Individual settings for the graphics card and monitor used for each char would be very useful. I want to log in my main on the left screen with full settings @ 1920 x 1200 and my alt on the right screen with lower settings @ 1920 x 1080 without setting this manually everytime. |

Let me *ignore during import* bookmarks, overview settings, keyboard shortcuts, window layouts.
Also, semi-OT, but let me save the module layout and default orbit/keep distance with a fit :-) |

Something that comes up again and again is making how you import/export and share settings better. In some cases it's non-existant. In others it's a overly complex to do. (I'm looking at you Overview.. Especially on a Mac!)
So I've been pondering over it, look around and trying to get a better picture on how it should function within EVE. So here I am and I want your input on it!
Here are a couple of thing I would like your input on, but don't let that discourage you to give general input and feedback on the topic.
1) What settings would you like to have stored?
2) How would you expect the synchronization (import/export) to function? What would the interaction be?
3) How would you go about sharing settings with other players? (directly or in-directly)
These are just some basic questions to get the discussion going. Feel free to add any more within the realm of sharing/import/export of settings.
Best CCP Fear
1) Overview, windows, fittings and drone/bookmark folders.
2) in your servers? ;) give us a few Mb's to store that configurations but I can live storing that files in my dropbox.
3) Sharing Overview would be AWESOME. I would love it the FC could be able to share his overview with the rest of the fleet, so everyone have a new overview TAB with the FC's settings. |

Auto Export
In Firefox, there is an option to export the bookmarks as an .html file when the program closes. I take that file and make a backup of it daily. It would be nice to do that with EVE for general settings in an .xml format.
Self Backup
Firefox automatically keeps backups of the last few bookmark lists. They are actually databases. While not human readable, they server their purpose of allowing the program to restore bookmarks if corrupted. It would be great if the client could self-restore with an option for multiple backups.
Settings
Positions: I have my windows in certain places and groupings. When I have to redo them, it costs me time I should spend playing.*
Shortcuts: if they get lost/changed you find out the hard way.
Bookmarks: that is an obvious one.
Last Character Used: When that gets lost it just throws me off.
I think there should be careful consideration over what settings are stored on the server. "Last Character Used" is an example of this, IMHO.
* This is besides the fact that the client doesn't understand window grouping. (e.g. if I change group-1-window-A, close it, open group-1-window-B, then it opens whatever window-B was (ignoring group-1)) |

One thing you need to think about is all the hidden settings and how well you're willing to support those.
Over the years, tons of settings have been removed from the settings screen, but are still available in the config files and are still parsed by the client (I'm thinking about things like snapping distance, session timer, nonstandard resolutions).
Ideally, I'd like to see them all exposed. If you are so adamant about not cluttering up the setting screen, at least let power users do what power users always do, and hand-craft the setting files to suit their needs. Being able to precisely place and pre-configure windows would be awesome in this regard since the game currently doesn't offer as much in that area as it used to. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

CCP Fear wrote: 1) What settings would you like to have stored?
Hot key setups. Also bookmark organizations (not the BM's themselves, but a mapping i.e., BM with name X goes in folder Y). So if I delete my entire user preferences or install on a new machine, the bookmarks will appear sorted. I have over 1,700 bookmarks in EveOnline. Last time I had to do this was very painful.
CCP Fear wrote: 2) How would you expect the synchronization (import/export) to function? What would the interaction be?
I would envision this as going to Esc --> Settings Menu with import/export buttons that launch a path browser to an XML file or a save location for an XML file.
CCP Fear wrote: 3) How would you go about sharing settings with other players? (directly or in-directly)
I would give them a url to download the XML file for importation. Unless a time comes where they are server stored, I don't think I could link them in a chat window.

I think other folks have a good idea about questions 1 and 2, so I'll limit mine to question no. 3 - I would like something similar to what has been done for the ship fitting window. I want there to be multiple "corporate" overview setups that you can attach to each tab as wanted/as needed, as well as "personal" settings, all of which also can be snagged from a drop down menu on an as needed basis. All setting should be exportable to an XML file.
Now, as I wrote this I was assuming all you meant was the overview settings.. or do you mean that we might soon have a customizable UI as well? |

Hi!
First of all, include into the import/export the tabs that are missing: Filters -> State, All subtabs in Appearance tab, Columns, Overview Tabs. If all that would go into the export file, it would help a lot. Right now you import your settings and manually do all the other stuff. For ALL your accounts and characters.
In the long run server-side settings are a thing everybody wants. Ability to apply the same settings across all your accounts is priceless. |

All of it - preferably selectable by areas - so - tick the boxes for overview, fittings etc etc.
Export files - let us choose where to save it - and what to name it - so we dont have to go hunting through some obscure wineserver tree to find the files.
Export to file - mail file - import file.
Option to auto export every x amount of time would be handy too... Need to place a high-sec POS? Premade corps for sale, or your corp's standings boosted. Trading since January 2012. Many corps sold/boosted - see my thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=63128&find=unread |

1) What settings would you like to have stored?
- Window locations (relative to nearest corner, thus a window whose bottom left corner is in the bottom left corner should stay there when the screen is resized)
- Window sizes (absolute, or relative to display pixels?)
- Nested/tabbed windows
- Open/Windowshaded/Minimised status (Windowshaded is when you double-click the title bar to shrink the window into its own title bar)
- Docked windows (eg: selected item & overview will typically be docked)
- Overview filters, open tabs, selected overview settings
- Bracket filters, active bracket filters
- Palette status (ie: system info, incursion info, faction warfare status, route display: open, collapsed, closed)
- Tracking camera target location (stored relative to my ship position, not top left of screen)
- HUD location (top/bottom, offset left/right from middle by percentage)
- Bookmark folders
- Graphics detail (middle column in ESC menu graphics settings)
2) How would you expect the synchronization (import/export) to function? What would the interaction be?
With no interaction from me, logging in to the game as character X should update the local settings for that character automatically. When I update settings locally, they should be synchronised to the server before I get disconnected.
Ideally, when I log into a new computer I should be looking at a client that is configured as closely as possible to my previous computer. The finer points of graphics such as shader settings and resolution should not be stored, since these will change depending on video card, CPU, attached monitor.
It would be nice if I could specify resolution ranges for saved settings too, so I can save my settings separately for ultra huge widescreen of 3 x 27" monitors versus 11" MacBook Air. Then when I am running a selected setting and modify things to tweak the layout on my virtual cockpit, things won't break on my laptop which I use at work for chat and skill queues.
I might want to have saved settings that are different for exploration versus mission running versus lowsec combat, too.
Then to use shared settings:
- Receive a settings voucher
- Right-click, select "Import settings GǪ"
- Apply my own name for these settings
- If necessary, resolve conflicts in saved overview settings
To use settings from out-of-game:
- Open the settings handler
- Select "create from clipboard"
- Paste into the text field
- Define a name for this new settings set
3) How would you go about sharing settings with other players? (directly or in-directly)
Save them to a in game voucher item similar to bookmarks. Allow this to be handled through item exchange and courier contracts just like bookmarks. Then when I want to share settings:
- Open the settings handler (from what menu? No idea)
- Indicate the settings that I want to share
- Select the components of that setting that I want to include (eg: just overview, brackets and palettes)
- Save the indicated settings to a voucher
As an option: right-click the voucher and select "Copy to clipboard". This will allow sharing and editing of overview settings through out of game means.

1) Shortcuts - Primary. Overview - Secondary. Other settings better to leave for build's options.
2)Export-Import, simple text. Compatible with all builds if possible.
3)No.
