Howdy all,
Was a bit confused with the difference between skill ranks and levels. I noticed that a few of my skills are listed as 'Rank 2' and most are listed at 'Rank 1'.
What is the difference between them? Do you have to purchase the rank 2 after you max the rank 1? or does it automatically upgrade as you continue training? If you have to purchase them, is there something that distinquishes the ranks in the market? Also, when a piece of equipment lists that it requires 'some_skill level III' -- does it matter if it's a rank 2 level 3 or a rank 1 level 3?
Thanks for any and all help with this. Hopefully I can get some clarity.

Ranks determins how long it takes to train a skill, a rank 3 skill takes 3 times as long to train as a rank 1.

I think level refers to the training time multiplier. Not positive on this tho.

Rank is the multiplier. Level is what you've trained the skill to.

So since Rank is only the time modifier... the lower the better, as that takes the least amount of time to master.

It would be nice if skills could be researched to lower their rank.

Capital Ships is a rank 14 skill which means it takes insanely long lengths of time to train. In reference to the previous comment about researching skills he is suggesting that he'd like the idea of being able to make it a lower rank skill. He is also likely being sarcastic as to make it a rank 1 skill would be ridiculous.
