Hi, my 2 minute movie is 120 Megs with double pass xvid. Somethings not right here, but the res is 920x600 (yes i know its wierd) wasnt originally intended for public release, but I wanna figure out what I did wrong so when I actually get around to compiling a real fraps the same thing doesnt happen. I used virtualdub to convert the audio to mp3 and triple checked everything. Cant pinpoint the source of the error.

Just a few questions people are bound to ask
Whats your system spec and fraps setup? What Program are you using to do the editting? What settings are you using to encode?
all i can think of atm.

1) Holy crap, thats a huge filesize. DLing to check it now.
2) Don't use Xvid for EVE, use WMV9 or H.264 in an AVI container, encoded using virtualdub. - Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: SengH on 15/11/2005 22:39:57 System spec AMD X2 3800+ Running @ 2.5 Ghz each core 2 GB DDR 400 A8N SLI Premium 2x 160 GB Seagate SATA in Raid0 1x 200 GB Segate PATA (Dumping fraps to here)
Using premire to edit and virtualdub to encode. Checked 4cc tag with gspot and everything seemed fine.I just used 1000kbit dual pass as I tried a bit lower and there were visible artifacts/blockyness on the missiles. I think im doing something horribly wrong though.

Edited by: SengH on 15/11/2005 22:41:15 H.264 losseless using ffdshow codecs gave me a 350 meg file... waay too big for public consumption.
Edit: Esp since its only 2 minutes long.

It doesn't have to be lossless... WMV9 can get good quality at 10-20MB for that length, and H.264 even less!
Though I'd recommend WMV9 as most people here don't have a H.264/AVC codec. - Proud member of the [23].

Just a question about xvid. I recently downloaded the family guy movie and it was encoded or something with xvid. I downloaded the xvid files that I thought would run the video, but i got a bunch of files that i have no idea how to use.
Anyone?

use ffdshow for general viewing.. its a codec pack that autosets up everything.

The Combined Community Codec Pack is the best playback pack there is. It should play Xvid, Divx, H.264, WMV9, and the like, along with allowing MKV playback and the like. - Proud member of the [23].
