As a neutral party in the going ons in the Eve universe it has been interesting to watch how the interactions between the various corps have been developing. The closest anology I can think if is 16th century Japan, Its the "Sengoku" Period in Eve or roughly translated its the Age of War.
Basically the old empires are starting to break down. People no longer have faith in the old systems. Corporations are the new feudal warlords of the Universe. Alliances are formed staking their claim to new territories (Venal, Stain and Fountain Alliances anybody?). The lands are troubled by warfare that can break out at any moment. Pacts can be formed, broken and formed again in the matter of a few days.
And amongst all this we have bands of ronin roming the lands. Some good, some mercenaries and some just bands of renegades staking out their own claim in flesh and blood.
Will there ever be a "Shogun" in the world of Eve? Its hard to say but things are getting very interesting on this front. Commodore Laird, Human Resources Officer

"...that we're living in Golden Age of unequivocal progress and prosperity..."
Heck, you don't have to go that far back in history to find out what happens after most golden ages:
Depression, war, and all kinds of bad things.
The roaring 20ies followed by the great depression of the 30ies and WW2. The decline of the roman empire. The Aztec and Mayan empires.
I mean, in the same newsbyte they wrote:
"Some skeptics have warned that the current economic growth may be a bubble waiting to burst, but these doomsday prophets and nay-sayers base their assumptions on very shaky foundations"
You make your own conclusions out of that, but mine would be inclined to believe that those doomsday prophets may be more right than anyone wants to believe. =============================== Deception + Information + Skill |

The history of mankind is that of almost incessant war with occasional outbreaks of peace.
Thank goodness they don't last long, it gets tedious ============================================== "Trust no man who says to you that 'The ends justify the means' or who says that 'We will do whatever it takes...'. These men have no honour, and are fit only to be politicians."
