The raven on sisi atm is very powerful, a combination of a rocksolid shield tankand the ability to deal excellent damage (which it can do up to about 40k effectively). There was nothing majorly wrong with his fit, and imo there isnt a way to kill a (new) raven with a blasterthron.
Reguarding blasters they could use a buff in damage 10k is our optimal we should at least get rewarded for getting into it. Oh and for the people that say that ccp only balance whole classes of weapons; last time that hybrids where looked at small guns only got a cap reduction not fitting, unlike the others :P

Originally by: Nyphur Hold on, you were using a microwarpdrive to close in on the raven and you expected not to be eaten alive? Your sig radius must've been huge! get a buddy in a covert ops to get 15km behind him and warp to him if you want to get close. Otherwise, you can use drones hit hit him before you get within weaposn rance and just use a good afterburner. Also, what type of missiles was he using? Did he tell you before-hand? Because he sure as hell knew he was tanking for kinetic and thermal.
Megathron has a sig radius large enough to feel the full effect of torps anyway, so it doesnt matter :P

The ac tempest should always walk over a blasterthron because it can sit on the edge of web range and wee on the blasterthron :).
But this thread is about blasters, not the tempest or railguns or 1400's.
Large blasters have about 3k optimal and nothing to show for it, they cant overpower a shield tank before it dies, they can't fit t2 ones without using a co-pro or buying expensive faction stuff. At present there isnt much point in flying a blasterthron bar for kicks, after RMR the raven will just be superior in everyway to a blasterthron. It does enough damage to break another ships tank before its own tank breaks and doesnt need a speed mod, or to go in close.
The ideas for fixing it, well more damage, fall off and optimal wont really help, as they'll just take the niche that ac's and pulses have.

Originally by: Rivek The upcomming balance changes (nerfing of damage mod stacking past 3) will only benefit the oldschool semi-tanked blasterthron. No longer will long range gun dps be sufficient to take out a tanked ship. This gives a short range BS time to maneuver and utilize his firepower and actually impact the battlefield again. That however, doesnt solve the balance issues between blasters and other short range weapons.
This is somewhat true, with the changes you'll see a lot more tank setups seeing that a raven with xl booster is as good as 2 reps, im sure apocs etc will fit 2 reps and will be just as annoying while dishing out lesser damage but enough to break your tank / waste a lot of cap boosters :P

I love the idea of a 25% rof bonus! But even as sexy as it sounds wouldnt this erm really overpower the thron? :P
And rails are imo fine, its just blasters that dont pay off for they're very close range. :)
That said that idea makes me want to 'nurf' caldari less but still nurf!

Blasters have never changed, they've allways been that way, and there is/was nothing wrong with bs sized missiles (cruiser sized yeah they suck :P)
Though that setup you posted is tankable by a raven, at least long enough for it to killafy you with torps.

Originally by: Ithildin Here are a few musings on how you could fix blasters.
Changes: * Hard-code a +20% to +25% tracking boost on blasters (or possibly hybrids) * Change Megathron tracking bonus to a -5% or -10% MWD capacitor nerf bonus. (The latter gives a level 5 Megathron about 15% extra cap with an MWD, while the previous gives the same Megathron a -5% cap with an MWD)
Benefit: This change targets the blasterthron specifically, while giving some attention to the smaller blasters (although these do not suffer much from tracking). The blasterthron becomes a mega-Thorax/Vigilant.
Its more the actual damage your blasters do, whether they're being incredibly effected by they're tracking ive no idea as I try to stick about 3-4k away and not orbit. Having more cap wouldn't help as you can't really fit anything more to take advantage ie repairers.
Dual rep setups only work if you use electrons, with cap boosters and are only good for about 1 engagement.

Id prefer a damage boost, rather than rof unless rof + capacitor use are tweeked. The cap use on blasters is high enough as it is :P.
Also its more raven/blasters place after patch that im concerned about.

In addition, it was set up to face a megathron, wasn't he? That means kinetic/thermal hardeners, and most likely a big hole in EM, and he would have been raped by an amarr ship because of that most certainly.
Not quite true, with the un-nerf of invulnerability fields its quite easy for a raven to get a nice set of resistances. But its besides the point, the point is that blasters aren't the king of 5k or under range which is where they're supposed to quite literally own that range, least thats my opinion. Still think a damage buff would be more prefferable and maybe a slight fitting tweak.
A modal mega neutron does about as much damage as an ion blaster cannon II with the spec at 3, I usually fit a rack of these + an ion II with 2 damage mods a repairer an adaptive nano and 3 hardeners (with all the usual blasterthron mids). Its allready been said that neutron II's arn't worth they're fitting reqs.
Oh and the discussion has been going quite well imo so far id love a dev response or nod? :P

Oh and for those who are complaining about how the damage blasters do is so pathetic, look at this. ::lots of numbers::
20k fall off, or something like that on acs though, reason why an ac tempest walks over a blasterthron.
@ reducing fitting of neutrons didnt someone say that the dot difference between an ion + neut was about 7%? I don't think that'd cut it. Also if you read this is about a sisi raven with the ungimped invulnerability fields and less cap boosters, I think

Edited by: Porro on 26/11/2005 03:17:33 Grids going to be very tight. but modal neutrons are just a tad less powerful than t2 ions, but they cost 5x as much.
That setup doesnt/wouldnt work btw hell

Hopefully it'll be in the blood patch along with drone damage mods and the fix to damage controls :P
