What is the best football goal ever in your opinion?
For me its the goal marco van basten had in the euro championship 88.

Di Canio's goal whilst playing for West ham againts wimbledon in 2000 a superb volly from an acute angle i was at the game and the crowd were shocked into silence
also the same man against man utd 76 minutes gone, FA Cup fourth round, Barthez hails a taxi Di canio slots it past the hapless keeper the old trafford crowd stunned into silence was at this game aswell what a great day
god i could go on for ages so many great goals scored

Trevor Sinclair's overhead kick for QPR is the one that sticks in my mind, Van Basten's goal was special though. |

Dennis bergkamps third against Leicester City in 1999 or 2000,cant really remember the year but the goal ill never forget.
Mind you,dont think ive ever seen the man score a simple goal.
T2 shuttles have been released, they're called Ares and Raptor.-Vathar.

Speaking of Bergkamp, the one he scored in the World Cup 1998 sticks in my mind. Just a shame I can't remember which match it was; it doesn't stick that well.

As much as I hate to say it, his other goal in that match was pure class though.
In fact, it was almost as good as Michael Owen's goal against the Argies in 1998.

If it was cheating against England, and you're Scottish, then it's pretty much the only criterion.
One of the TV channels ran a poll for "greatest ever goal" some years ago, and this one damn nearly won, because a huge number of Scots voted for it repeatedly. It was removed from the final poll because it was so obvious that they weren't voting for a goal based on its quality.

Umm think the year was 97, i was at the forest doncaster match in the first round of the league cup that night, i remember them raving about it on the radio in the car on the way home.
When i saw it i was amazed, id allways rated bergkamp as a player capable of doing such a tallented thing, it's a shame that one wasn't committed on the world stage. Iv'e seen just about all the great goals, id go with you on the one, it was truely amazing.
One of my own that sticks in the mind, David Platts goal against belgium in the 1990 world cup.

bonesy has it imo... fully intended 30yard overhead.
Although I remember Roberto Carlos bending one on the outside of his foot from the dead ball line on the wing for Real Madrid.. I don't think he intended it.

Yep your right,he won goal of the year for that goal.
But i find your staement about not doing it on the world stage a bit unfair,he is after all the the second all time dutch goal scorer,not bad for someone who dosent fly.

Ryan Giggs goal for Manchester United in the 1999 FA Cup Semi Final replay against Arsenal.
United are down to 10 men, Arsenal get a penalty to win the game with a minute on the clock and Bergkamp misses. Then the Giggs wonder goal in extra time to win the game 2-1. United go on to win an unprecedented treble that season of Premiership, FA Cup and European Cup.

Dave Carrol's goal in the FA Trophy Final in 1993, Wycombe Vs Runcorn. He ran about 40 yards and went around the defence about 3 times before thumping it home from the edge of the area

Given that that defence was semiprofessional at best, that hardly qualifies. There's 1,000 or more footballers who could have done it.

Tony Yaboah against Liverpool in 1995. awesome volly from about 30 yards.
and his goal against wimbledon later that year too. still the fastest traveling goal in the premiership as well.
also a good one is gazza's against the scots in euro 96.
i remember Rod Wallace taking on half the spurs team and bending a beauty of a sho into the top corner in the last game of the 93/94 season for leeds too. won goal of the season as well if i remember rightly.

No no no, by world stage i mean 'that goal' not his ability to perform on the world stage, thats not in question. I remember that stormer he scored against england to help bring about the demise of mr turnip, and that one he collected from about a 30 yard pass to hammer in against the argies in 98.
Bit of a difference in a dank filbert street on a wenesday night, to a roaring wembley with everybody watching it

Just for sheer timimg, plus amazingness, and sheer fact that everyone, including the keeper watched it in basically slow mo,
was beckhams free kick against ?greece? to qualify for the 2002 world cup. Extra time, last chance to get through. Whatever you say about beckham he is rather good at what he does :)
Remember sitting there in silence as it happened then our entire house erupting into hysteria. Gotta love it. Not the physically best goal ever, but you cant beat the timing and the fact that the entireity of england was watching at the time
