OK, I've tried a few scanning/hacking sites. I have a question on dealing with the loot spew - admittedly you will be "helping the competition" if you give out any tips/tricks... I'm not sure I like the spew mechanic very much but whatever...
Suppose I cargo scan the can and confirm that upon a successful hack, I want the Data container first (just an example). I then successfully hack and the system core explodes. Now I have all these little things in space.
1) Should I mouse hover over everything until it says "Data Container" - my primary objective. I would guess "yes" but maybe others have a different technique.
2) Once I find a spew container that is the one I want, do I have to fly by double clicking? Or click on the can and I fly there automatically? Or double click on the can.
3) Summary of above questions: once the can explodes and spews forth containers, what is the optimal click/click-click method to hoover in the containers I want to get?
Thanks all!

1) yes 2) single click. the can gets tractored to your ship 3) pay attention which batch of cans spawn first. give the good ones of them priority unless you are after a particular can with a bpc. I just stand still with my ship, don't fly after the cans, just single click the ones i want. Only when the last can is out of reach i try to get it via double click and mwd activated. |

a few more quick tips;
when the loot cans spew out, they will change between green, yellow, and white colors.
Green; within grabbing range, and your free to grab one yellow; within grabbing range, but currently grabbing another can white; outside of grabbing range.
so what i do is i usually just click one as soon as they erupt. then as i am looting it, they will all be yellow, and during that period, I look for the next can i want. as soon as the cans go green, i click it to grab that one, and move on to the next.
cans do have a limited lifespan, and they will start to blink when they are near the end of their life. if I notice cans doing this, I will quickly check if any of them are the cans i am prioritizing, and if so, grab that asap. other than that, it is mostly just luck, and hope they all spew in your direction, instead of the opposite direction. |

Thanks Halthoris. Yes, I tried your and Johan's ideas in the last 2 days. I find the key is not to panic when the spew begins. Instead, have a plan for what you want and calmly move the mouse around to do the necessary clicks; you have to be kind of Zen that you may not, in fact, get 100% of what you want and just accept that fact...
