/emote remembers vaguely after Cyvok's speech on the XF forums responding to the [5]'s reports about a NAP the dozens of people suddenly logging on after months of being offline - undocking and self destructing their ships podding themselves to empire and the markets suddenly being overloaded with heaps of stuff at 300% the prices levels in sharp contrast to those markets being totally empty during the war.
The number of people who actually fought, and as HC points out NOT from at a safespot was less then a hundred in EU timezone, a lot less actually. XF died when people switched en masse to alts elsewhere leaving their XF characters inactive for the war.
I remember the meetings. Sometimes I wake up from a nightmare of a meeting going into its 6th hour without any decision having been made.
I see the myths floating around and getting ever bigger and bolder on all sides of the fences. Which is just silly imo. When push comes to shove, and in spite of the details and circumstances XETIC died because of a single element inherent to the universe of EVE: evolution. Life has to adapt to changes in order to survive. XF was not going to adapt, even the signs of elements of XF adapting to changes conditions were no factor there as it was too little too late ... only few of us saw the light there. Those few you now find in the cores of both NBSI and ASCN.
As for our own corporation, yeah, Sandokan was our CEO :-) All in all a good guy, with a lot of history, but also a lot of character not ready to adapt. Why? because he cared. Granted ... I have very often felt like podding him in XF meetings :P but at the same time it was clear to me that he was trying in his way to get things moving. Unfortunately, the arena was no longer suited for those ways. As leadership in our corporation changed we went through the war fighting from impass to immensea to omist to feyth. Realising that most of the time we were not achieving anything for sheer lack of manpower - we're not a megacorp, never have been, never will be. Even now we're only 5th on the most involved list of the ASCN killboard - though personally I still don't see much point in a killboard as like anything it is subjective to individual whims (CCP: hint hint - make one where every kill and loss is automatically displayed).
I vividly remember the "request to duel", and the debates (public and private and all sides) after that, and the postings on the XF forums. Now we're a lot further in time and like grumpy old men we're still reviving a debate which no side could ever hope to win. Why? because we're individuals, each with our own memories and instincts and ideas. There's always two or more sides to a fact once humans start to deal with it :P Let's get back in game and mess with each other there.
