The Drones skill says "Speed bonus = -5 m/s".
What is this? Drone speed or ship speed? I'm guessing it's Drone speed because of some multitasking argument but really I don't think it makes much sense either way. And if it is ship speed, would it affect me when I don't have drones in operation?
Can someone confirm either way as I would dislike sacrifincing my ship speed in order to be able to use drones.

you dont have to worry, none of these buffs have any effect if you've gated in the sessions you are playing in right now

I made a recent push to get Drones 5 and drone interfacing, so I could move up to cruisers soon. However I have noticed in my Imicus frigate my ship's speed did not change when I was training up the skill, when I have 5 drones flying, or when I have no drones flying. The speed of my industrial ship and fighting ship also hasn't changed.
So it is safe to say that the speed penalty is either applied directly to the drone, or the speed penalty is just outright broken.

My understanding was that it was a penalty that is applied only when you have drones launched. The rationalization being that you don't have the time/concentration to baby the ship for that last few m/s when your also handling drones.

its entirely possible that it does nothing. The modifier descriptions are text, and don't appear to be derived from the actual modifiers. For example, cargo containers now have 2 or even 3 capacities, and the "Hull upgrades" skill says it gives +5% armour, and +10% hull, but it only does the armour (which is what it is supposed to do)
