Last night me and a couple a corpmates were fooling around a bit trying out several different things, and i came to an interesting conclusion.
first i loaded a couple a jammers on my hac, but i was hardly able to even jam a single ship long enough cause i ran out of cap so fast and the jammingpoints are so high u have to run a lot of them for the bigger ships.
Then i tried dampners and i was (pleasantly) shocked to find i could damp 3 ships at once, a scorp a ferox and a brutix, the scorp even had sensorboosters running!!!
So is dampning a better option then jamming? U don't have to worry about racial stuff at all, u don't run out of cap fast and u can damp mutiple targets.
The only downside i found sofar is that the damped ship still can lock and shoot tacklers as they have to get in close.
So what are your ideas? any other pro/cons for both methods?

A multi-dampened ship will have a HUGE lock time on an interceptor. __________________ Retard's handbook |

Yep. Sensor Dampeners rock when compared to Jammers. Leave jamming to the Blackbird (aka suicide squad alt) and the Scorpions. They get bonus on jamming which is much needed.

Not to nitpick, but the Blackbird doesn't. It's bonus is related to cap use for ECM. I can't remember if the range bonuses on the Scorp and Blackbird affect Dampers or not.
But to respond to the original poster, yes, Dampers are generally more useful than ECM, though I've always had a personal erection for ECM, don't know why really. Always seems kinda inferior. ---------------------------------

Dampeners always work, at least assuming you're in optimal. However the tradeoff is that they're not a '100%' thing, like the ECM. You're only reducing locking range by a proportion, so it's not useful in every situation. (e.g. no point cutting a scorp's locking range in half, if you're planning to be orbiting at 10km)
As 'stacked' mods, they're better than ECMs, as 'a few' will basically shut down your opponent.

as long as your not using blasters having a dampner can be really useful.

Yeah, thats what i found out, with 2 i could damp the scorp and both BC got damped with 1 each.
I was at around 60km range btw when i finally damped the scorp. this should be way out of the optimal range for dampers but it still got damped, and so did both BC.
Thats why i was pleasantly shocked to still see it work

RP reason : The Caldari are a long range race, so the Gallente of course focus on negating this advantage.
Game mechanics reason : Blaster ships want to survive long enough to get into optimal range, cutting the opponents locking range and time helps a lot.

Um am i wrong to assume that ECM ISNT cumulative?
I thought that if you ran 8 ECM's against a ship it would only jamm depending on each individual mod, not all 8 as a group.
Please correct me if im wrong.

Plus, a Celestis can dampen a sensor boosted battleship down to small blaster lock range. My Hawk with 3 damper IIs took a 22km lock down to 3km. Do the proportions and you get 110km down to 15km. Now factor in another damper, and the ceslstis' bonus, and you should take a 110km lock down to around 4km.
Next patch, you get another damper with the super celestis slot action, and you could train signal suppression to 4, and be doing something like 68% damping. You'll be able to completely neutralize one BS from like 10km. That's pretty huge for a 4mil cruiser with 6mil fitting. -------------------------------------------- "A plan is just a list of things that don't happen." -- Parker, _The Way of the Gun_

Yes, damps are still overpowered.

Your not wrong, but for every ECM the odds of failure lessen. So they work independently but the odds doesnt one can say. ] |

No, you're quite right. They don't stack (like they used to), so you don't have a guarantee to have your target jammed if you put 8 ECM against it, but since you'll have 8 mods "trying their luck", you are statistically improving your chances in comparison to running less ECM.
In response to the original post: Dampers are superior insofar as they are not chance-related like Jammers. You can't instantly see for sure if you were successful in downgrading the locking-range or just the locking time though, other than with Jammers, and Dampers only have half the duration time of Jammers. Personally, I prefer Jammers over Dampers, but maybe that's because I made bad experiences with the latter most of the times I used them... ____________________

Yeah i here you, your chances improve cause you have many mods on one ship aye im gravy with that, makes sense but is of no consequence to me as i generally jamm entire NPC spawns rather than one ship at a time

Am i right in thinking that you ahve to get the lock in first and then hit the target with the sensor dampers BEFORE they start targetting you/your buddies for them to have the desired effect (extended locking time)?
If so, then the would really be best used alongside a jamming vessel I guess.
I've had the skills to use these for a long time, but have never really bothered before, but I do like the idea..... a lot

Well, you have to get the lock first of course, but if you then dampen them and the target that THEY locked is outside the new, reduced range, they of course lose their lock...
Example...Raven targetting range 100km (for easy reckoning) locks a frigate at 90km away. Raven is then sensor dampened and it's range is reduced to 60km...so it loses the lock on the frigate. --- Ha! Vote me for top forum ***** |
