Okay, quick question, can anyone clarify how to get Storyline Missions for a certain corp? Basically I am running missions for Seb Tribe atm and want my Storylines to come from there agents (for obvious reasons), however whenever I get my storylines atm I'm getting them from Six Kin (despite that agent being 4 jumps from where I am and a Seb Tribe storyline agent being only 1 jump away). Can anyone give me some clarification here or even help me out? |

I don't know if the specifics of how the storyline agent is chosen are known and predictable, but what I would do in that situation is use Agent Finder to find a storyline agent of the appropriate corporation and level, and from there find the nearest regular agent. |

Thats literally what I did yet its still sending me to that same agent, gonna try leaving the mission open for that agent and do another 16 to see if it gives me a agent I want :) |

A few years ago when I ran alot of missions for jump clones it was the case that the nearest storyline agent was the one that you were sent to. So you could, by carefully selecting an agent, control who you got storylines with.
This is no longer the case, there is some element of randomness in it.
I'm a careful reader of dev blogs and I have never seen any mention of a change here.
One thing I'm reasonably certain of from getting some standings for my trade alt(s) is that if you have a storyline agent in the station you have the normal agent in, you should get a storyline there. |

just read your reply. Leaving the mission open could be interesting, hopefully it will increase the chance of getting a storyline from your preferred agent.
There is no downside, except for time wasted, as you can let storyline offers expire without penalty. |

You're running missions for Sebiestor Tribe and there's a Sebiestor Tribe Storyline Agent 1 jump away yet the game keeps sending you to a Six Kin Storyline Agent 4 jumps away.
Right?
If so, this just might be the problem. You're probably in a border system next to another Region. The Sebiestor Tribe Storyline Agent is probably in that other Region. The game probably keeps sending you to the Six Kin Storyline Agent located 4 jumps away due to that agent being the nearest Storyline Agent in the same Region.
Anyway, check and see if there's a regular Sebiestor Tribe agent located in the same system as the Sebiestor Tribe Storyline Agent. Doesn't matter what Division it is, just make sure it's the same level that you're currently working.
Let's say your regular agent is a level 2 Sebiestor Security Division Agent and there's a level 2 Sebiestor Mining Division Agent with a Sebiestor Storyline Agent located 1 jump away in another Region.
Just do 15 missions for your Security Agent, then travel to the Mining Division Agent and do the 16th mission. That will open up the Sebiestor Storyline Agent.
This should help - http://eve-agents.com/

The mechanic is like the Market, it only looks at the Region you're currently in.

I don't always run missions for Minmatar faction standings, but when I do, I use the L4 Sebiestor Tribe agent in Eram. More than once I've run a mission from that agent that's #16 in the sequence to get a Storyline mission, and I have always gotten that Storyline mission from the Six Kin agent in Vullat.
Vullat is 1 jump from Eram and in a different region (Heimatar vs Metropolis). I think a lot of what's written above is wrong. Storyline missions come from the nearest faction Storyline agent regardless of whether or not they're in the same region. The only exception is when you already have an outstanding Storyline mission from an agent, in which case the next nearest Storyline agent (for that same faction) will offer you the mission.
Disclaimer: I haven't run any Storyline missions for anyone since March so it's possible the mechanic has changed. I highly doubt that, however. |

I still stand by what I said. I've never received a storyline agent mission from another Region. I've definitely got them in other Constellations and Systems, but never in another Region.
Since neither of us have provided any proof / pictures, guess it's safe to say it never happened.
Anyway, I'm sure the OP will get an answer soon enough.

DeMichael Crimson wrote:Since neither of us have provided any proof / pictures, guess it's safe to say it never happened. Well, it happened and I have some pictures It was almost 2 years ago and I was running Level 3 missions for Ewlang Eode, a Sebiestor security agent in Eram (Metropolis region). 16 missions for him on 3 August 2011 over 6 and a half hours. I did the old copypasta from my transaction histories into a spreadsheet. Here you can see my standings gains with him and Sebiestor Tribe tracking along with them: Agent and NPC Corp Transaction Log
I completed the 16th mission at 09:26 and received a Storyline mission from Aekelm Ontbald who works for Six Kin in Vullat (Heimatar region). It was the 10-part Storyline mission called "Guristas Strike". I started Part 1 and finished it at 09:44. I toook my time with it and finished Part 10 two days later on 5 August at 04:39. I received a substantial boost in my Minmatar faction standings when I finished it. Here you can see my standings with the Storyline agent increasing for each part, my Six Kin standings increasing along with them, and my Minmatar faction standings boost at the end. Storyline, Six Kin and Minmatar faction standings
I distinctly remember those missions because it was the first time I tried to get a Storyline mission from a particular agent. I wanted to get the Storyline mission from Iddur Gulako in Arlek 2 jumps from Eram (Core Complexion). I was surprised when it came from an agent in a different region. There are a million ways I could have faked that data, but I have no reason to other than to prove my point here. I learned you can get a Storyline mission from an agent in a different region precisely this way. The principal idea of Occam's Razor is that all things being equal, the simplest explanation is probably the correct one. If you don't accept what I have shown here then there's not much more I can do. |

I can confirm that the game does not rule out storyline agents in other regions. Did at some point level 4 mission for CPF in Inaro in the Citadel and had storylines for Spacelane Patrol a few jumps into the Forge region. Unpas system, three jumps away. |

This is incorrect
You get the storyline from the closest storyline agent of the same faction irrespective of whether or not that agent is in the same region as the agent who gave you the 16th agent.
One thing to remember though - if you already have a storyline mission offered (or even expired but still listed in your journal as expired) you will not get another storyline mission from that agent.
Also I think you may get a degree of randomness with regards to which storyline agent is used if there are two an equal distance away. |

Nice to see people contradict themselves in an effort to prove me wrong.
I especially like how everyone keeps saying you get the storyline offer from the nearest storyline agent in the Faction, regardless of Region location.
Yet they still fail to explain why the OP is getting sent to storyline agent 4 jumps away instead of the storyline agent 1 jump away.
If they do try to explain it, they say it's random.
OK so which is it? Nearest Storyline Agent of the Faction or just RNG. |

From personal experience i would say both are wrong, i tried picking a level 4 agent with a storyline agent from the same corp 2 jumps away hoping he would be the agent giving me storyline missions, and he was not the only storyline agent giving me missions.
I think it's random what corp gives you a storyline mission, and you then get the closest storyline agent from the corporation.

I'm a bit at a loss aobut the whole problem, checking on it on the agent finder. Two Seb. Tribe sqotryline agents, one in backwater high-sec system Hakeri, the other in low-sec Eugrana. One Six Kin agent in Vullat. And there is no system in New Eden that fits the 1&4 distance theme of the inital posting.
So I assume an error in the inital situation and stick to the general mechanic of closest storyline agent of same faction regardless of regions, system sec. Etc. Only randomness I so far encountered is when two agents are the same number of jumps away.
Is one of the inital posting agents maybe an agent for an epic arc or the old distibution cycle missions? |

My guess is the OP is running missions in Aldik, which is one jump from Eurgrana. Since Eurgrana is low sec, the OP probably has the autopilot set to avoid low sec, and the storyline mission uses that to avoid the low sec storyline agent.

You're correct, I am running missions from Aldik and did have Autopilot set to avoid LowSec (Had no idea that had a bearing on where Storylines come from herpaderp *facepalm*), have just removed that and will see when my next Storyline comes up if it gives me a mission there. Nope - if you run missions in high sec you get given a storyline by an agent in high sec and vice versa |

Nope - read what I posted - it is nearest _that is free_ - if the op for example had an expired offer from the agent 1 jump away that agent would not offer a new one.
I've just been blitzing couriers from the Eifyr & Co agent in Elgoi (and by blitzing I mean I'd built up about 8 storylines.
Every one of those story line offers came from agents further away.
I was offered a story line from the Six Kin agent in Vullat before I was offered one by the Republic University agent in Nakugard which proves it is the closest agent irrespective of region.
Incidently none of these offers were from agents in low sec even though there were low sec agents closer proving my statement regarding storylines coming from the same sec status as the 16th mission |

The problem is nothing to do with low sec - I've just been looking at the map. You've been assuming because you were running missions for Sebistor tribe you will get a storyline mission from a Sebistor tribe agent.
You actually get a storyline from the closest Minmatar storyline agent in the same type of space (i.e. high or low sec) as the agent who gave you the 16th mission who is not already offering you a mission (including one that has expired.
Eurgrana is irrelevant as it is low sec. Vullat is 6 jumps away. Hakeri is a lot more than 6 jumps away
If you leave the Six Kin offer untouched I expect your next storyline will be offered by the Core Complexion agent in Arlek - 7 jumps away. |

That is most definitely wrong. The corporation of agent no.16 has absolutely nothing to do with the corporation of the storyline agent you get refered to. Only the faction and distance matter (and seemingly sec. Status).
Proof? Do missions e.g. for the Amarr Navy lvl4 agent in Oridion. The only storyline agent you'll ever get (assuming at you do the storyline right away) is the Amarr Navy storyline agent in the same system. |

May be that is the case if there are no other storyline agent close enough, we do not know for certain, it could be a mechanic that combine all our ideas. |

I've always thought that storylines are given by the agent who is physically closest to your toon when the mission is offered. So the agent may differ in accordance with your toon's location at the time of offer. Have never really checked so I may be totally wrong though :) |

I think I have finally figured out how it is worked. From my understanding it will give you a storyline with an Agent who is in the closest system to you (In the same Faction), but it won't give you missions in low sec if your last mission was from a high sec agent and vice versa. Really clears things up and makes it easier to ensure I get those specific corp missions I want (Even if it does mean having to run a mission in lowsec its worth it). |

So, did you leave the Six Kin Storyline Agent offer open in your journal and then got another storyline offer from Storyline Agent?
Or did you do 15 missions, travel to another Sebiestor Tribe agent located in same system as Storyline Agent and then completed the 16th mission?
Also was the Storyline Agent in another Region?

I left the Six Kin Storyline Agent offer open and got one from a Agent in Arlek (still not the corp I wanted), so I left that open too and proceeded to do another 15 missions, I then jumped to Eurgrana (Metropolis, same region) and proceeded to complete the 16th mission there (there is a Storyline Agent for Seb Tribe in there), it gave me a mission from that agent and I have then continued to do the same (15 missions in Aldik, 1 in Eurgrana) and it consistently gives me missions from the same Seb Tribe agent. |

Ahhh, great.
Sooo, the storyline mechanic just had Agents in the same region offer you missions and as each offer was left open, the agents got further and further away from your location.
Completing the 16th agent located in a system with a corp storyline agent induced that agent to offer the storyline mission.
Thank you very much, it seems you've confirmed what I had originally posted.

No the reason the agent 1 jump over _in the same region_ was ignored was that it was in lowsec. The reason they were offered a mission from an agent 6 jumps away _in a different region_ was that it was the closest in highsec |

I can categorically state 100% that the storyline agent does not have to be in the same region. This is not debatable or unknown - it is scientific fact.
The SL agent that the OP said was 1 jump away was in low sec in the same region (NOT IN A DIFFERENT REGION). Bearing in mind your faction standing plan that is so often suggested to people it is definitely worth making sure you are aware of the correct answer so that when you help others you give them the correct answer.
EDIT @ the OP thanks for posting the original question, yours (and subsequent posters) answers have massively cleared this whole subject up for me. The only thing I do not understand is how to leave an expired SL mission in my journal - when mine expire they just disappear. Not sure if I am looking in the wrong place, or potentially have checked a box somewhere saying 'remove mission offer immediately upon expiration' |

Whatever floats your boat. You can continue saying I'm wrong til you're blue in the face and it still won't matter. I still stand by my first reply in this thread.
FYI = In regards to the Faction Standing Repair Plan. I always tell players to work the Event Agents listed in 'The Plan' instead of grinding 16 missions for 1 storyline, unless it's absolutely needed or required.
For the record, the OP continued to get offers from storyline agents within the same region, albeit none of them from low security.
I'm done with this thread. Good luck to you all.

Ah well, you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. |
