I've installed the monitor & my 7800gtx doesn't recognize the monitor automatially at 1920x1200 but sees it at 1600x1200. I can go into advanced settings & force it to see 1920x1200 & the screen is gorgeous. My problem is that eve will only see 1600x1200 & the game is noticably 'stretched'.
I've tried playing with the settings..reinstalling the drivers & such..but nothing has prevailed in this respect. Do I need to format my drive & reinstall the system so my system can recognize my monitors max res? I have no clue as to what I can do at this point.
Advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is easy in linux... just enter the Vertical/Horizontal sync values in Xorg's config file.... all monitor manufacturers give this information in the specs outline...
As for Windows...
The only thing I would suggest is make sure you have all updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com... first and foremost.
Secondly, consider the possibility that the monitor manufacturer might have an install disk to add it's sync values so Windows+Drivers can identify the monitor and it's supported resolutions without guessing; you can see if Windows properly identifies your monitor in the Display Settings box... one of the tabs or buttons in the settings area.
There is no need for you to reformat your harddrive... I'm speaking in the wind here, as I've seen end-user machines before; fact is, God doesn't even have a clue... But, assuming you have a well managed system, the problem is fixable without a full reinstall of Windows.

Thanks for the fast reply...but my monitor didn't come with any install disks. My system's been updated with xp & I'm not entirely sure what I can do to have my card 'naturally' recognize my monitor. My past monitor was a 20.1" screen which supported 1600x1200. Fair enough...I just plugged in my new monitor into my machine...but can FORCE it to see it.
Considering the fact that the new monitor can support a higher resolution...wouldn't it make sense for xp to recognize a new monitor & install support accordingly? I recently built my system for eve specifically a few weeks ago...
AMD X2 4800+ 2 gigs of ram XFX 7800GTX Extreme Edition Asus A8N SLI-compatible 939 socket mainboard 550W power supply 20.1" screen.
Eve is awesome on 20 inches..but simply staggering at 24". Though there isn't anything too important on my system drive..I can save anything to a CD & do a clean isntall fairly easily with no difficulties.
Curious to know...

Your card doesn't "recognize" your monitor... that's software based. Consider the graphics card's only ability is to send signals to a monitor, and it will send those signals in accordance to what your drivers tell it to send. Your video card really doesn't care... I have physically damaged CRT monitors becuase I would tell my video card to send out of sync rates to the monitor... your monitor will try to get the electron gun to do comply .... anyways... it's not your card.
There is a little more involved, your card can tell if a monitor is connected... it can also pass information through which permits some technologies like Plug'n'Play to properly identify connected hardware.
About the only thing your graphics card "cares" about is whether or not to translate the signal to analog... VGA connectors are analog, not digital which makes a flatpanel LCD with only VGA connectors absolutely worthless and completely senseless... but, this matter is naturally taken care of via which connector you plug your monitor into and what connector the card identifies a signal on (to imply a monitors has been connected...)

The 7800GTX doesn't have analogue transfer ports..they are DVI-D ports. The signal my monitor is receiving is digital in nature, not analogue. Adjusting the focus & bits of the monitor is always available in analogue..but not digital.
Sorry I didnt' mention this earlier

Ok, this can be one of several things but most likely a driver issue from a windows point of view.
As stated before your graphics card is not the issue it is windows and it's stubron sticking to 1600x1200
So what you would want to do is explain to windows that your monitor is capable of running in a higher resolution. (1920x1200 being one of them)
What you can do is: !!!FIRST BACK UP YOUR STUFF!!!
Look at the monitors manufacturers website to see if they have drivers for this monitor (always the best solution)
Ok, now right click on your my computer icon and select properties. There go to the hardware tab and click the device manager button. Good now look up your monitor (let me guess default plug'n play) anyway just delete the thing and have windows do what ever it wants to do (restart most likely) Now it should discover the monitor again and with a bit of luck it might even be smart enough to figure out you can run at higher resolutions than the default 1600x1200
AFAIK the default windows plug'n play monitor driver does not let you run at higher than 1600x1200 (but I could be wrong there)
------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

For a True widescreen display, you need to set the resolution to 1920 x 1080.
I'm running Eve on a Dell W2600 26".. The res options I get are all HDTV, so
when playing at the native res (1280 x720)(720i) everything is crisp & smooth - only
problem is everything is WAAAAY TOOO BIG!!!!
Running the game in 1080p (1920x1080) gives much more space, but having issues
with the fonts all blurred, yet as soon as i sort that out, i'll post a solution.
BTW, on your NVidia settings... does is actually see your samsung or does it just
say "Plug & Play monitor on xxxxxxxx"

Sounds like the Dell 2405FPW [or a different brand, that prolly uses the same screen]. Try downloading the monitor drivers from Dell as a start :) If you cant get 1920x1200 to work via drivers, try "Powerstrip" it has the ability to create custom resolutions driverindependantly :) ___________________________________________________

My 6800 Utra recognizes my Dell 2405FPW and Eve runs great at 1920x1200. What does it say under "Monitors" in device manager? Perhaps try removing the monitor there and reboot to see if windows will redetect your 24" LCD.

Depends on his monitor. If he has a 24" LCD, the native resolution is 1920 x 1200, a 16:10 resolution conpared to your 16:9 resolution on the W2600. If he sets to 1920 x 1080, his monitor will need to stretch Eve or play with black lines on the top and bottom of the screen.

My eve display properties can bring the game up to 2048x1536. This concurs with my windows display properties. Eve is configured to read the windows maximum display settings, and not the override that you have set. The problem lies with your Nvidia drivers. I would suggest that you go to http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and download the Nvidia omega drivers. This will unlock all the supported resolutions for you. You also have to go into device manager, and change the monitor driver you have. go to update drivers and manually chose plug and play monitor. That will fix it for you.

i only skimmed this post, but ive recently had a upgrade very similar to samthedog's same motherboard n all that spunk.
MAIN POINT Im using nvidia 'card setting; nView Display Settings: to clone, then make my tv primary and the tft secondary. Eve then gave me thousands of resolutions
YAY Regards
