If people buy a game only because PC Gamer thinks it rocks then games themselves are destined to be screwed. Magazines (especially with MMORPGs) tend to never hit the nail on the head.
I prefer the good old word of mouth routine myself.

Mags are ok, just you have to find the right ones, since I got cable 5 years ago they have lost all meaning, play the game warez or demo it and see if you like (most of the time)
Also, if you can offord it, follow your hunches :)

I agree, reviews in games usually suck. Specially this mag.
Make up your own mind! You get 30 free days with purchasing the game, use that.
Hell someone playing more then 10 days is bound to do more then those who do reviews.

Me, I think the whole "assign an average percentage" deal is bogus for reviewing, and totally irrelevant. How are you supposed to factor taste into a number?
The answer, of course, is to read detailed reviews on respectable sites (such as www.wargamer.com) that don't bother with percentage nonsense.
Alternatively, user-written reviews are very useful, since it is quite easy to pick up player tastes and dislikes and apply them to your own tastes. For example, one review of EVE at www.pcgr.com states that "If this game was like grand theft auto inside the space stations.. I may have kept the game". (LOL) I'm sure this is a valid reason for the reviewer, valid enough to set Gameplay at 1 and Overall at 1, but for me totally irrelevant - ie disregard review.
