This must be one of the most embarrasing moment of CCP, see how they advertised that they've received a 90% from Pc gamer on the front page, well
PC GAMER HAD JUST CHANGED IT"S RATTING ON EVE TO 55%!!! in the printed issue september 2003
they must have come to a compromise with Gamespot or the sort, well, either way, CCP had better change it's homepage advertisement S I G N A T U R E |

Sigh, how many times is this one going to come up?
The 90% is from PC Gamer UK, the 55% from the US.

It wouldn't be quite so pointlessly sad either ... if the damn quote didn't keep coming up in different threads ... sheesh ... don't people have anything better to do?

Are you confusing the UK version of that crap magazine with the USA version.. no.. you wouldnt be the second person to do that that then post it on the boards, after all you would have read the other person making an asshat out of himself and then not made the same error wouldnt you? :P
hell the last thread is probably only a few posts before this one....

Does anyone know why they changed the rating ?
Did the original review say there was going to be a follow up after a few months, is that perhaps why it was lowered ? ------------------------------------------------ CCP please fix your patch so I can play with my corpmates again soon. |

They didn't change it, the UK and US versions are two different mags with their own reviewers, etc. In one it's 90, in one its 55!

US gives the 55 percent I think should be 30 percent , due to the way they handle things. I have played a few online games and not once has it been this way , sure they all had the cryers and whiners to, but the game went on and they lived.they wanna give newbies a chance, well I trained my azz off to getgood skills in areas taht would be to my advantage in eve , now they are worthless ------------------

Edited by: Xamand on 12/08/2003 13:58:52 In response to RAIDAKAOZ Eve is a living breathing persistant online world. It would rapidly become very dull if nothing ever changed in my opinion. It's the same in many MMORPGs, things change, and the flavour of the month template changes. We have a game here that has a huge potential to do pretty much what you like to get ahead, and as the players explore the oportunities they have open to them, some will rise to the top and be noticeably more affective than others. In the name of balance this will cause changes to the game engine as any other developer would do with their MMORPG.
PS - I played a dagger char in AC, so I certainly know how it feels to feel the full force of the nerf bat. He ended up adapting and learned to use a crossbow, certainly wiped the smiles off all the people laughing at his puny little dagger

Take any review with a pinch of salt.
How many of the reviewers will get into the game? And how many just find they have to mine to make initial money, so give it a bad report?
Me? I'd go with 90%. But then again, I enjoy the game.

I think the point of this thread is that a 55% rating from a popular (though poor) PC magazine is going to do nothing to help EVE sales.
Sales of EVE will in the end determine how long this game runs.
55% is a ludicrous score and shows that the reviewer was probably a "twitcher" game fan. It is one mans opinion, not a very intelligent or insightful man i grant you but reviews matter. The fortunes of war, i'll tell you plain, is a wooden leg or a golden chain. |

Gaming magazines hardly ever publish good reviews of MMO's. They simply don't have the time to playtest the games like they are supposed to. If you want high scores on your MMO from gaming mags, just make sure the newbie stages of the game are exhilirating. After that you can just leave the rest sucking. You'll get high rates regardless.

The game doesn't involve the US marines making the world safe by shooting everything that crawls upon the earth, so it was bound to get a much lower rating in America.

PC Gamer (US anyway) is just an industry ***** mag anyway. I think their ratings are tied to how much advertising revenue they've received from the game they are reviewing.

Demangel...looks like we may have neglected to shoot a few of those things crawling on the face of the earth - specifically, Corsayr and la'Rei.
They don't really seem to be worth a wasted round, though, do they???

I can't believe people still go by magazine reviews.
"The human species suffers from a dimensional limitation. They are not able to understand that matter and mind are just one aspect of something more fundamental. We must strive to expand our perspective so we can see what our true reality is." Deep toughts by Mr.Pops, while consuming large quantities of Blue Pill and staring at the EVE gate in Genesis.

You can always check the games out yourself. A magazine may rate a game poorly but you may personally like the game a lot. I personally don't go by magazine, gamesites, or individual reviews. I like to check things out myself and make my own mind.
