Recently, I've been thinking of RP-ing an alt of mine as a pirate. However, looking into things I see that I can't join one of the many NPC pirate corporations out there, nor will I be immune to attacks from their rats if I get a high standing via agents. This doesn't make sense.
I gladly accept that going Blood Raider, for example, will bar me from Amarr space, and possibly some others. But there should be an upside to this. I should be able to mine in belts without Blood Raider rats attacking me. I'm one of them, after all, and I don't want to be in the position where I'm raising standing with a Blood Raider agents only to lose it again when defending myself against Blood Raider belt rats.
Is there anything wrong with things being this way? |

Because if this were to happen you'd be able to mine safely in low sec space while the NPCs protected you from other players.

but you wouldnt be able to mine in high sec as you'd get ganked by the navy the moment you entered... if you had a bad enuff standing to theempire from doing pirate missions that is.

this is precisely what happens to players in high sec, being protected by Concord. in addition, they get the myriad benefits empire affords them, such as high populations and active markets. so it makes up somewhat for the ore they mine being not as valuable.

Personally I think it would be great if CCP would fix it so you could have a good standing with the NPC pirates and roam the belts unharmed.
CCP would just have to make sure that the NPC still attack you if they detect a mining laser fitted.

This would only be effective for a relatively small area of space in most cases, since there are so many factions throughout the "galaxy".
Say you finally worked yourself up to an acceptable level of standing with one faction, and some hostile group moved in, owned your group and forced you to move to a different area of space, you could run the possiblity of being very much SOL, when it came time to reestablish yourself. I think this would very much improve the concept of territorialism within Eve. Though I do see where it could make some things just too easy for large alliances with outposts, etc. Every good idea requires a little tweaking.
In a side note, I thought faction warfare, effects of standings, etc, were supposed to be part of one of the big new upgrades to the game? Has this changed, or was it just a pipedream? :) |

Archangels.... hm.. how? :)
And I just agree with that idea. Having a high standing to rats is just cool, but the same for the concord, so if concord doesn`t like you, they should be marked red e.t.c.

It's a good idea, but remember, these are cut-throat pirates. If the raiders see you as some goody-goody agent runner they'd pwn you right there. If you want to role-play it then each set of rats at a belt are a roving band. They might like the smae people you do, but that does not mean they like you. Make up your own band of blood raider pilots and camp some belts in 0.0. :D

to counter just anyone getting immunity from belt rats by having a 0.1 standing (quite easily obtained), perhaps immunity should only be granted by joining that particular NPC pirate corporation. this way, large alliances wouldn't be immune.

If you read the OP properly you'll see that that isn't the topic of discussion. It's not about joining NPC Corps, its about rats from the same faction.

If YOU read the topic "CCP plz take standings...etc" you will see that CCP already do that (i gave an exemple), that acording to your standing when you leave to a NPC corp you might go to the corp you have standing.
If ppl are talking about OTHER issues that could be use with the NPC standing theyŚre still on topic....diferent than you that just bit** around.
