Referring to the galaxy / star cluster we all inhabit as the "World of EVE" in RP-voice news releases and lore articles really breaks immersion for me. And to be frank, "Weve" sounds like something hippies do to make baskets.
Is there any chance you could be convinced to find a new term for local space that's more in character and/or less silly-sounding? - - - -
I have measured and described the stars, their great and countless multitude. What man has seen their revolutions and entrances? Not even the angels see their number, yet I have recorded all their names.

We won't talk about how many cruisers I lost this weekend, nor how many nice railguns, or T2 enhancers. We're going to skip right over that. We're going to talk about my new Raven. It is like flying a small city, and the city's only export is missiles.

Yeah, it's a universe or galaxy made up of worlds...
It is most definately not a single world, and calling EVE a world is downright stupid. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

WEVE = .
Doesn't suit at all and everybody seems to have been uncomplaining about using "EVE".
Why?

Not only that, but referring to it as "The World of EVE" or even "The Universe of EVE" implies that there's another universe out there. From a purely RP point of view, no one should know or suspect of the existence of the RL universe, everyone should refer to the 5000 EVE systems as "The Universe".
It's like saying in RL "The Universe where Earth Is" all the time. |

I'd happily settle for just using "EVE". Drop the "W" :) Not that it matters all that much in the grand scheme of breaking RP since posts about patches and downtime already do that.
But then we need to see those posts. Catch 22

maybe it was a typo of 'worlds of eve'?
personally I find it a bit odd-sounding.

Being an rampant typo'ist myself, I'm well aware how close 'w' and 'e' are next to each other on the keyboard.
So to make sure I won't have any bad dreams, I'll simply stay convinced it's one of those bad bad typo's - anything else is simply to horrid to think of. BIG Lottery

Edited by: Zotigh on 12/08/2003 22:36:37 I don't know about Iceland, but in English the word "world" refers to a single planet. Our earth is a 'world', for example.
It looks and sounds silly to the English speaking world (See??!! I can use 'world' in my sentence because I am reffering to THIS world we live in. Get it?) to use the word 'world' in describing a galaxy full of planets.
"War of the Worlds", for example, implies a battle between two or more seperate planets.
Eve is not a 'world'. Eve is more of a galaxy.

Its pretty much the same when you look at asteriod info, they talk about "common throughout the world" and it sounds a little lame, should say "common throughout known space" imo.

Maybe you should read the backgrund info before posting? Every race in EVE originally came to EVE from earth. Our earth. Through a wormhole. Then the thing broke down and everyone got stuck here :) So this is just a part of space, most likely it's in our own galaxy.

I think the best thing to call it is a galaxy. It IS structured as a galaxy, and it's known (as part of the story) that there is another galaxy elsewhere. :) ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |
