A long thread regarding missiles.

Nice on paper, lousy in practice.
They need to lower the damage modifier (do less damage per individual hit) and ROF (fire more frequently) on the long-range projectiles if they want to have this kind of effect, possibly increasing the capacity of the guns along the way. This gets the same effect as what you're describing as flak cannons fired at a fairly rapid pace, had a fairly long range, but had lousy accuracy.
One of the problems is that range is important, but an uncontrolled element. If you could volunarily warp in at different range(s) than just the usual 25k-ish from the targetted object things would be much different. People with long range weapons like the tachyon, 425 rail and 1400 wouldn't want to warp in at 10-20k, while those mounting blasters and autocannons would prefer to.

Actually if I wanted to be a realist I'd point to modern auto-loaders 
The principle is good though, and that's what I suspect they wanted - that projectiles would fire a lot, miss more often, but do damage simply due to the sheer volume of rounds fired. Its a good model, but isn't reflected by in-game weapons right now.
Large weapons as a whole are a mess and there isn't a single gun IMO that shouldn't be fixed some way. =============================== Deception + Information + Skill |

Anyway.
Autocannons work nicely.
Artillary and Howitzer projectiles get worse as they get bigger - which makes little sense.
The 30s DOT potential on a 250mm scout art better than any market large projectile, which only have a range advantage on the 250mm. I think that is more telling than anything really... =============================== Deception + Information + Skill |
