Edited by: Raskens on 11/12/2005 12:10:13 I have exactly the same problem, and I'm using BBB as ISP.
Has anyone using a "gaming router" like the D-Link 4100/4300 tried it? Are the problems the same on that platform, which is supposed to be more gaming friendly than maybe a regular router is?

I really doubt it's the routers fault. It's not like BBB uses a super-unique way of transporting packets. Try checking the route using PingPlotter like mentioned previously in this thread, if it does cause issues for you you can send me the trace log and I'll forward it to the cases I've got going already.
So far, I've only been sent one other case, except my own - which is hardly enough to ensure a strong statement. On monday, DTAG will pick up their investigations again and I'm supposed to forward the logs that I've been sent. Seeing the low interest in actually solving this, I guess the outcome will be the dismissal of the two caees (at BBB and DTAG).
If that'll be the case, there's only two solutions for me.
1. Change ISP since the game works flawless with other ISPs 2. Quit EVE - since practicly unplayable under the current situation.
I've tried to get support from mods in gluing this thread and getting some public info on it on EVE General Discussion, but not a work from them so far. Crossposting is a tabu so doing so will just result in a lock anyway.. __________

Problem is, I haven't noticed any problems with dtag when using ping plotter. Maybe I'm using it wrong? XD

Yup, either people experience full packet loss, or just high reoocuring spikes. Keep it runing for ~30 minutes while playing and see what results you get. __________

I have had the same problem with bbb and dtag now for over 6 weeks.
BUT i can't see any packet losses in my trace, but i cant play the game at all.
It takes over 10 min. to login if i can login at all. And i can only do stuff in the station but it takes forever. Fly in space like it is now? NO WAY!
here is 1 of my pingplotter: pingplotter
I have talked to bbb about it and 1 guy was going to look in to it because he has gotten some calls now about this problem with eve.
I have tested many routers and none work (zyxcel,d-link and netgear). Without a router it works much better, but still not really good at all.
My internet is from bredbandsbolaget(BBB) with fiber 10mbit in and out.

Crato, for how long did that trace go on your plotter? If that's more than just a few seconds, I've got no clue at all on what your problem could be :( __________

Edited by: Gallell on 11/12/2005 19:19:57 I use BBB too and I have massive connection problems with EVE when I use my router.
If I connect my computer directly to the 'net (removing my router) there are no problems at all.
my router is a D-link DI-804 (first version, with firmware 2.05b2) and I have a static IP.
I will try and get some more tests done and contact BBB later this week.

Hi,
I also experiencing the same problem - random disconnetcs and *heavy* lag, it just impossible to play. i`ve just barely lost my ship - escaped by chance with 20% of structure left... It is not pretty of seend your ship being shot at and being completely incapable of doing something to save it :( I saw how ratz eat up shield and armor milimeter afetr milimeter while trying to do something - lock them, fire back and finally run away (luckily this one worked - after a whole minute). i experience this kind of lag only with eve - no other online game does not exhibit this strange behavour

Talked with DTAG & BBB today, this seems to be a never ending story. I was sent the same reply as before from BBB (because someone else handled the issue): "If the problem is outside of our network, it's impossible for us to do anything. We therefor have to ask you to contact DTAG again".
DTAG sits still on their claims: No problems on their network.
So, I'm now looking for another ISP. We've got Ownit 100mbit fiber in the house for a fairly low price so I'm considering that instead. __________

I also have BBB and a D-Link DI-624 Router. I have been having problems ever since BBB took over Bostream. But this thread really helped me. I configured the router DMZ-settings to the computer I play EVE on and now it just works. EVE is faster than ever before. It's like a totally new game for me.

Yes that's all good, but we need to fix so we can use the routers again. I feel CCP has some responsibility here to talk to BBB and make them understand their link to the game server is defective.
We know for sure that the routers only have problems with the BBB network, and I think it should be in CCPs interest to convince BBB to take action, there is only so much we can do as individual users.
Oveur said he was going to have a look into this matter, maybe we can have a new response soon.

I have been playing without my router for the past 3-4 days now, Eve works with EXTREMLY little lag, infact it is probably the best Eve I have played for the past 6 months.
When I plug in my router so that my gf can use her pc aswell, Eve goes all to crap and becomes unplayable. I dont know if I am the other case being referred to that has sent pingplots..but the odd thing is i can "play" (be online and browse market heh), keep pingplotter running, and i wont get a single packetloss, just crazy spikes nearing 400ms.
BBB 12mb dsl from Gothenburg btw, and everything except Eve works fine when the router is plugged in. Am using D-Link DI 604 ___________________________ Chicks dig Brutor's |

just downloaded pingplotter because I had problems with distances, i.e. unable to web because I'm too far away (2km away from the target) and even losing target lock with a tempest at 2km from the target.
And you know what? My route runs exactly over that dtag server and I'm using Cablecom in Switzerland.

Sadly, there aren't any problems with DTAG, according to themself.
I've tried convincing my own ISP, BBB (Bredbandsbolaget) to handle this matter but I've now been blocked off. Can't sent mail to support: "Sender rejected". So, fed up? Yes. Chaning ISP? Most deffinetly! __________

Today I sent a mail to BBB regarding them not being responsible for servers outside their area. That's fine, I'm not expecting any refunds. But I am expecting them to help us by talking to DTAG, as an ISP to another ISP, to get it sorted.
After all, it's the BBB name we all discredit here, and to our friends, colleagues, families etc, whether they stubbornly adhere to their not-our-problem policy or not. It's BBB who will start to lose paying customers. I pay BBB and EVE to play EVE, not a penny goes to DTAG...
I have also started to look at other ISP's in my area, and will move as soon as I can (unless this is resolved promptly).
After I've verified their traffic ain't going the same route of course...

I've been connected a few hours now without disconnect and excessive lag, with my router. Pingplotter still show it's unstable.

Yes, that can work. I tried that earlier, but it didn't work that well for me, for some reason. I have to send ALL packets to my gaming station.
Besides, I have multiple accounts and use 2 PC's myself. Sometimes a friend comes over and we play EVE (and other games) = 3 PC's, 1-4 accounts running. That wont work now...

Edited by: Agrikaan on 17/12/2005 16:44:10 I just talked to Glocalnet support, and they were most helpsome. They couldn't really verify that they wouldn't connect me over the same route to the EVE servers, but: They mentioned some recent cabling problems within Skanova (the company that owns most of the "backbone" that most ISP's use).
Bad cables, more than one apparently, in the southwest/Gothenburg region. This was reported on the 12th of December. To late as we've had this problem for weeks, but this issue might have taken time to realize, find and to create a ticket/report.
I'm now trying to verify this with Telia/Skanova. But it's weekend, and they do get to bed early. Also, there's the problem with me not being a Telia customer...

I switched to Ownit. Never heard of the company but the 'bostadsrSttsf÷rening' switched to it from HSB Bolina a few months ago. So got a 100mbit fiber in the wall for less money that I payed on my BBB connection. Good thing was it went online within 60 minutes after my order was put in.
I wasn't too sure about switching due to the first person I got to talk to there. Very unhelpfull, but the second time I called I got to talk to someone who was much more cooperative and did some traces for me. So I'm more than content with the switch. __________

Yippy, a solution (for me at least)
Facts: ISP = BBB, Sweden, Malmoe Type = ADSL 24/1 Mbit Router 1 = D-Link DI-704 (not working) Router 1 = D-Link DI-624+ (not working) Router 3 = 3Com 3CR858-91 (working \o/)
I had the same problem with random disconnections for a couple of months. I have tried upgrading my routers with latest firmwares, open ports in the firewall. I even tried downloading StarWars 14 day trial to see if the same problem existed in that game and it did not.
I have called BBB support a number of times trying to investigate what the problem could be. The last time I called the support guy told me that he had heard of this problem but only with D-Link routers, he said that it was something with how the routers talked with the modems and he then recommended a couple of other routers where the 3Com was one of them.
I am now using the 3Com router and have been traveling around in EVE for over a couple of hours without a single disconnection. I can also say that I experince no lag what so ever anymore, I even think about taking out my Cerberus later tonight to test some kill missions or complexes again (I have only done courrier missions and checking my R&D agents these past months).
It is a complete new game for me.
Conclusion: If you are using a D-Link router, try playing directly connected to the modem. If that works, buy a 3Com router.
