I was just thinking to myself its quite amazing that eve is past its 10year point and its still running the original 4 races the game started with. No new race invading eve uniting the 4 in a common cause. Maybe they carve out a wedge thru null/low/high right where jita is. Causing massive trade disturbance.
Completely different ship design theory. Anyone wanting to play as this new race would have to start new account sunce their training skills wouldnt apply(more money for ccp).
Just a random thought whatcha guys think? Im sure there would be massive amounts of things to balance think thru but sounded like fun to me
Or it could be a temporary event. X number of players allowed to be in allien race at given time. Alien race gets pushed back beaten but participants get unique prize module or whatever. Spoils of war etc |

Maybe nomads who went to explore space while empire was being formed could return. They could return from the outer reaches in ships that use long lost technology. They could use a clan type structure with names like "Ghost Bear" or "Cloud Cobra" or "Goliath Scorpion".
Yeah, that would be cool. And original. This thread has so much content it may be 'Thread of the Year' and it is only January.

Yeah, that would be cool. And original.
They would be reclaiming territory that was once theirs. Was supposed to be held for their return. They would have older and better in some ways tech worse in others. Maybe more focused on durability(long.journeys and all that). Or rather than just older it would also have evolved over time
Or
They were sent to explore another galaxy. When they got there finding no resistance settled entire thing now their back.
Or
They got there. Found the galaxy occupied and returned since they couldnt settle in that galaxy. |

Its hard enough to design and balance ships for 4 races. I also like games that only allow you to be human and not some goofy thing with a tail or whatever. I wouldn't be opposed to CCP expanding the universe and going all Mass Effect with it, introducing a bunch of alien races. But I would prefer them to remain NPCs. |

The races look much the same and you can train everything regardless of race. It's not like we have Taurens, Goblins, Dwarfs, Undead, Pandas etc... we don't have huge visible differences.
You would introduce more ships with a 5th race but it would also increase the skill tree.
Added races is usually to stop players getting bored where they encourage you to play alts on the same account , games like WoW. As we don't have fixed classes as such in this game I don't see the necessity of a 5th playable race. |

Eve space generates drag; it should presumably carry a high-energy wave.

the most possible would be the jovians, but as i said in another jovian related thread. it would need a complete series of expansions in order to implement it, why?
1. lack of ships (they have like 5 hulls atm, 2 frigates, a cruiser, an industrial and a battleship if i can remember)
2. the current races have covered all the combat and defense niches, lasers, drones, missiles, hybrid weapons; shield tanking, armor tanking, with combinations depending on the faction also.
3. jovian space is practically surrounded by null sec, it would need a change in security in order to connect it with the other empires, or use a jump bridge system for this.
4. too much resources and CCP hasn't even finished to balance the current races.
this 4 points are what keep the development of another race at bay.
form the 4 types of tanking we could have either hull tanking (no joking here) or speed tanking (i think minmatar already covers this one)
as for weapons, the only weapon system i can think that hasnt been converted to a main form of damage are smartbombs, again, no joking, imagine a ship that launchs several of these energy balls or something.
the other option would be making them jack of all trades, like the gnosis allow them to be either tank or shield with all the weapon systems avaliable. but comes the issue that new players would have to learn aditional skills. so the first concepts is the more likely.
few people use smartbombs anyway, the other issue is the type of EWAR, each race has its own dedicated EWAR style, CCP would have to think in another type of it. |

Sound, even high energy "ultrasound", require that gas atoms or molecules be in very close proximity to one another. Sound propagates through the vibrations of gas atoms or molecules to bump into each other, thus transmitting the "sound energy" from the source to - wherever the sound wave radiates to.
While there are gas atoms and molecules in space, they are too far apart from one another for this propagation to occur. |

(I said gas atoms or molecules, but the same propagation of sound can occur in liquids and solids, but it's still the same process. The atoms or molecules bump into one another to transmit the sound energy.)
Not exactly my field, but my understanding is that sound still travels at extremely low pressures (not sure how well).
I also haven't read most of the Eve lore, but my impression is that the medium is pretty close to a fluid. If it was extremely diffuse, travelling fast would damage your hull. |

This is true, so long as some atoms or molecules can bump into each other. Of course, the sound would be "attenuated", but as long as the atoms or molecules can bump, sound will propagate. Watch this space.-á New exciting signature in development. |

Eh, the four races with a 5th 'lore' race is fine. No need for more to add into the already troublesome task of balancing what's already on the table.
But.. just to play along...
I think some sort of truly 'alien' race would be interesting. Jove are just super modified humans anyway. Perhaps their ship philosophy could be organic based, where even the 'armor' self-reps over time just like shields (their construction can be similar to T3's in that they use more minerals and gases in addition to the normal ores).
As for weapon system, I'd guess something along the lines of energy would suffice. Amarr already cover that, although it's too laser-y still. Perhaps this race has something more akin to blasters with pure plasma energies, but farther range. Or maybe they also use organic substances and fire globs of corrosive/radioactive fluids and goo that eat away at shields and armor. For ewar, I'd imagine they could implement some sort of anti-support fields on others, causing reps and energy transfers from ally ships to be reduced. If enough could be focused, a target would not be receiving reps at all. haha. I can imagine that'd royally p**s some people off.
But again, the 4 (playable) races is enough. We don't need more balance whine and skill time sinks. |

the idea of the organic ship has some merit taking in account that jovians where the ones who invented capsules, maybe their ships have reached a peak where they're practically almost living organisms.
we have 2 races that do armor and 2 races that do shield, so it wouldnt be crazy to think in a hull tanking race, of course this means changes in how does hull tanking works.
for weapons, the idea of using for example nanobots or chemical compounds sounds cool too, energy weapon wise, we have beams and pulses, along with smartbombs atm, and right now i think we dont have a EM/Kinetic weapon?, so we could invent energy cannons or something like that, i mean, a weapon that shoots electromagnetic charges, like the EMP ammo, but uses some sort of metallic weapon that produces an electromagnetic wave when colliding with the target.
for electronic warfare we currently cover something that fucks targeting both in range and disabling lock, another that fucks the tracking of turrets or moduls that improve the chances of hitting the target. apart from that we have modules that **** the warp and propulsion modules, and others that eat the cap.
one option could be disrupt the repairing capabilites of the target, diminishing its repair amounts. another would be a module that increases the time cycle of its modules. |
