There is no such thing as "dark" space, space is invariably very very bright, as radiation abounds. The only place in space you will EVER find darkness is in the shadow of a very, very large planet. Even than, the radiation for nearby stars will be bright enough to see.

More black space! And making regions look alike is a good idea as well!

Yes to black space with stars as hard points of light.
Sometimes flying through space in EVE feels like flying through atmosphere - with the clouds and the blinking stars. Please stop the star blinking - stars in space do not blink!

Edited by: David Corbett on 08/12/2005 16:17:52 Or at least, PLEASE do away with the pastels. Some systems have awesome, subdued colour schemes that are rich in primary colous like blue or red. I'm thinking 9UY in Providence, or the bottom part of Geminate leading to the Great Wildlands, or the constellation in Feythabolis just one below YZKE-Q constellation towards the rest of the space there. Some parts of Empire with dark, subdued coloursets look nice too.
However others are ludicrous. You get these nasty pastel colours in space that just really shouldn't be there, they're quite pale and generally much too bright. In fact some parts of space are just so bright I end up reflexively reaching for my monitor brightness controls. It's no good. I mean, when I'm out hunting down the deep side of some pocket constellation or gatecamping for enemies or whatever, I like to think I'm out in the quiet depths of space with just me and the NPC rats / an angry gank fleet. Instead it's like I've been cast into the fires of creation! That would be neat if only the deepest and most lawless parts of 0.0 look like that, but as it is the colours are too pale, and you run into it in Empire anyway.
Anyway, out there in 0.0 space, there are packets of beautiful, rich coloured systems... somber and reflective yet beautiful in their own way. You can see this as well in the entrance to Solitude from Aridia. This is different from the WHAM MASSIVE XTREME PALE INTERSTELLER COLOUR HAMMER you get hit with in, for example, the RHG-90 constellation in Feythabolis. I find myself flying around the emptiest reaches of space looking for some quietude as if I was further away from things.

Space REALLY needs to be darker. Sometimes I wonder if that much light exists in the universe from the way EVE looks. The background should be mostly black space with the nebulas appearing a bit darker and ALOT LESS IN NUMBER. Something like in Freelancer, the backgrounds have a good blend of nebula and space.

The problem is, in space you cant see in the shadowed areas because theres no ambient light or bounce light. Its either light to where the light source is and completely black on the other side.
This is the reason why films and programs like Babylon 5 startrek use nebuleas or planets as backrounds. You wouldnt be able to see the ships unless you were looking at from the light source. Maybe its the reason why Ccp use nubleas.

Here's how Eve would look if there were no nebulae:
Magnificent desolation
another one
and another one
P.s. ^ this was due to the gfx bug I had. Needless to say I enjoyed it for a while, before I relogged.

YES!
That's exactly what I'm talking about! See...that makes you feel like you're in deep space.
I wish my gfx card glitched like that...forever. Either that or CCP can give us the option to switch off the backgrounds.

nah mate, thats still wrong. Theres no light on the other side of the planet unless its been illuminated by another light source.
heres what that scene should look like. light on one side and black on the other ( no ambience ) perhaps nebuleas are best kept.

Eve has awlays had screwed up lighting like that. If you place your ship right in the middle of your LOS(line-of-sight) to a star, the side that's facing you will still be completely illuminated. Ridiculous!

The bright colours of high security systems cause it to set more comfortably, need darker more silent, sleepy-like approach to the background in low security systems. Then dark, mysterious backgrounds for 0.0 and the rare magnificent yet mysterious beauty of an untouched world in a few sparse systems of 0.0.
Thats how I see it.

Yup, there really is too much stuff in the background. Makes the space look very small.

definitely more darkness, less girly backgrounds. I'd also like to see proper lighting on objects, so if your on the dark side of a planet you will just see a halo of the sun arround the planet and yea.. better lighting effects on objects in space to better refelect how the sun/moons/planets would refelect light onto an object and more dark black space.

Yes. I support a darker feeling to many of the systems. Get back more of the blade runner feeling. For me some of the attractiveness is that dark sinister feeling you get from blade runner. Just adds more character tbh.

Black space, and not being able to see things against a backdrop all the time is more realistic, which this game strives to achieve I think.
Uh.. yea, it would be more "realistic", but its hardly a target for the game to be. I had that same graphic glitch on myself, and space looked real dull.
If the game would be realistic, then you would need to turn your ship around to be able to use the aft thrusters to decrease your speed, rats couldn't respawn magically, concord wouldn't be as effective as it is, all ships would need fuel for anything they do, asteroid fields woulnd't respawn, lasers couldn't miss, passive targeter wouldn't work since it uses "acoustical" methods to target ships, "ballistic controls" wouldn't do jack, since you don't really have ballistics in the environment, T2 ships wouldn't be so tough compared to T1 (what you mean 70% explosive resistance?!) , actually, most ships would prolly implode with 1. or 2. shot at them, list goes on.. No, I don't think we want more realistic game. I like it the "arcade" way.

I'd also like CCP to make me a "Sol" solar system that exactly matches our own and only me and people of my choosing and if they don't do this I will get mad and maybe cry.
You wouldn't want that CCP, would you?

But then, neither is ... banking a spaceship in the corners.
Actually - it could be:
a) where are the manoeuvering thrusters. If the thrusters are only roll and pitch controls, then that's how you'd have to manoeuvre the spaceships
b) Assuming less than 100% "inertial dampeners", you want G forces to be acting downwards on any occupants rather than laterally
You can fly a plane in the atmosphere using yaw controls (the rudder) to change direction instead of using roll & pitch controls (the ailerons & elevator), but it's very uncomfortable for the passengers...
(the pod pilot in his goo probably wouldn't mind, but other occupants might take exception to being bounced off the walls by yawing the spaceship to change direction)
