Black space, and not being able to see things against a backdrop all the time is more realistic, which this game strives to achieve I think.
Uh.. yea, it would be more "realistic", but its hardly a target for the game to be. I had that same graphic glitch on myself, and space looked real dull.
If the game would be realistic, then you would need to turn your ship around to be able to use the aft thrusters to decrease your speed, rats couldn't respawn magically, concord wouldn't be as effective as it is, all ships would need fuel for anything they do, asteroid fields woulnd't respawn, lasers couldn't miss, passive targeter wouldn't work since it uses "acoustical" methods to target ships, "ballistic controls" wouldn't do jack, since you don't really have ballistics in the environment, T2 ships wouldn't be so tough compared to T1 (what you mean 70% explosive resistance?!) , actually, most ships would prolly implode with 1. or 2. shot at them, list goes on.. No, I don't think we want more realistic game. I like it the "arcade" way.
One thing at a time, eh?
This change is easy to impliment, or so I hear. And a lot of people want it.

You obviously aren't cool enough to have the 'white space' bug, where space becomes white. Great for masking out ships.

No we don't. Black sky is boring, if CCP hand't realised this in the first place they probably wouldn't have gone to all the effort of making really nice backgrounds for us and instead of this we'd be having threads like 'CCP - can we have some goddamn colour for a change?!'
Nonni and it's constellation is pretty dark as long as you keep the camera pointing the right way. __________________________________________________

Yep I'm very much a fan of a dark starry background.
In fact, you will expect as you go further out (ie 0.0) you will encounter less nebula, and most of the stars will be bunched in the direction of empire. Dark, starry backgrounds would fit the 0.0 mood much better than bright and sunny (or cloudy, heh). It's great for the bustling inner galaxy, but 0.0 needs to feel and look as empty as it is. Desolate and cold, dark skies with no or old nebula with very subdued colours would fit this perfectly.
Call me shallow, but in this game style makes a big difference. I kinda like stuff to look right. Which is why I want the Mammoth to be a BS, the typhoon/tempest to be recycled and all to recognise the Mach for the loveliness it is =)

Wonder if this is the first time that people have asked for less graphical goodness, ratehr than more?
Go on CCP- give your artists a break and give us the chance to fly against a dark background Gin is my co-pilot.

I totally agree with this guy - i was just thinking the other day that seeing a nebula in every single system kinda downgrades the excellent job of space realism they have made. Each system should vary in looks due to its position in the eve galaxy - (if it is a galaxy) The actual position of stars should be more in line with that of a standard spiral galaxy with denser stars at the centre and then the dark regions on the outskirts in 0.0 space therefore looking like a RL galaxy. Also would be a great addition to atmosphere when your in 0.0 and its dark and cold but then moving into empire things brighten up with lots of happy nebulas.
My request is this... more dark space but also every star seems to be singular (sorry if im wrong) when in real life binary or multiple star systems are more common! some binary systems would be a nice touch.

I took astronomy too.
It was awesome. I learned more about our universe than I thought possible.

Eve's too small to be called a galaxy.

I want a huge universe. The actual one is to small. Get it bigger with a factor of 50x. :-)

Dark space = more realistic Dark Space = Can't see ship (or at least not very well) Dark space = crap for a game
I've flown in a few systems where there is only a small nebula and It's very difficult to see anything (well, almost anything)
I'm all for a variation in the systems graphics but ones that are all dark? no thanks. Personally though I'd prefer CCP peeps to work on what they currently do - Game mechanics rather than the prettyness (or otherwise) of the systems.
I know it adds to atmosphere but I'd rather have better toys to play with than a pretty sandbox with crap toys.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move. - Douglas Adams

I guess CCP will have to introduce new camera drones then... with thermal vision.
