OK, so most of us at some point have ventured out to New Eden to see the gate for ourselves. Obviously, we can't do anything in the system, as the gate is not a true object, and even if we could pilot a ship towards the gate, the results would be pretty nasty:
Quote: In any case, the turbulence makes it extremely difficult to study the gate. Fortunately, the storms pulsate rhythmically, meaning that every other year or so they recede enough to allow closer scrutinizing. But even then the turbulence is enough to rip to pieces any vessel foolish enough to wander close to it.
However, since Titans are due to come into the game, do you guys think it would be theoretically possible to navigate a Titan closer to the gate for closer study?
I realise that this is not possible in game, but let's try to have an RP debate on wether this would be plausible, bearing in mind how ships and equipment have evolved since the Eve Gate was first studied, especially along the lines of Scan Probes and Cynosural Field Generators.

I was wondering about this thing... There's one simply way to find out if the eve-gate is a simple background or a reachable object.
Put a bs in the system, go to somewhere else int he system, shoot a deep space probe. Scan for battleships, repeatedly. Each scan will give you one random point in space up to 95au away from the bs. Repeat untill one of those points is at the direction of the gate and warp to it. 95au is quite oftenly a huge distance for most system, and should take you outside the boundaries of the system (you will know you are out when you open the directional scanner and can't see yourself in it). If still in system boundaries repeat from current position.
If the gate has changed it's placement against your stable camera view, then it's there. If not it's background.
I have seen this being debated over and over again. You can't possibly say that the gate isn't there because you mwd'ed for 10 days towards it. You hardly cover 1au like that. Only the multi-mwd scorps of ye olde days could claim they could verify this, and that would take quite a few hours to achieve.

Yeah, I keep meaning to head over in a disposable ship fitted with a few Observator Probes, although I really don't expect anything to come of it after all this time. From an RP point of view, it would be very interesting if a carrier could be adapted to send out some long range controlable drones adapted to sensor and probing work.

Edited by: Neon Genesis on 06/12/2005 13:49:31 This would be a great event or storyline to run, sounds fascinating. Recently I feel like thers so much ccp could include to make the game alot more exciting to dow ith the story, but it never makes it in.
How about after all this time we find a remnant of the old world that was sent?
First titan makes it to the eve gate in a stable condition and maybe even works out a way to disipate the storm?
Even the joves havn't been done to death, there is sooo much interesting storyline stuff that a real push could bring out and really light up the game!
These are rough ideas but you see my point
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread |

But a titans bigger, it would probably get torn apart quicker. as it's mass is far greater etc.. and so on. |

Unlikely, seeing the wormhole is closed and the Eve Gate practically destroyed.

It's glaringly obvious the gate is a backdrop and not an actual object in space.

No more or no less so than a star when rendered from an outer-planet.

I'd agree that there are plenty of plot-threads they could pursue, but EVE's a big place and things take time. The prime fiction is moving forward. Just rather sedately. Look at the Gallente elections. >cough<
