You actually could, in theory, move a huge space station with you own strength, but since there are no fixed points in space (everyhting is moving all the time, so no points of reference) you would actually be pushing yourself off the spacestation, and it will very very slightly move in the opposit direction. There is however a very light resistance (drag) in space (floating particals and such, but very very little <more then you would think actually> of it)so it would 'stop' (again, everything is always in motion so it never really 'stops', but the effects of your push will diminish to nothing over time - and why are we always in motion? because gravity is everywhere, there is always something pulling or pushing in space, and if there is nothing, then you are actually pulling things to you! In the case of EvE, since the missles are actually moving at a high volocity, the impact would shake and change the ships direction slightly - but - as a graphic, the ship shakes far too much. Its so big we see the same shaking effects we would see on a shuttle or a Frig used for these large beasts - it should not be so jerky. But ya, space is an enviornment where everything has a gravity (like on Earth, but since Earth has so much gravity compaired to us. . . it makes very little difference) these big boys would actually have a gravitational pull of their own (read the little story on them, getting too close, destroying crops . . . that would actually happen.)
ok, I'll stop with the high school physics now.

Nice vid and well shot.
Now that's a real ship. At the rate I'm earning ISK, Eve servers will be running on terrabit architecture before I could afford one of those.
I really like the Caldari and Gallente ships, they are smooth and sleek, not like the half completed Amarr battleship that I have that reminds me of the half built Battlestar from Star Wars with all the wires poking out.

Great vid. And everyone knows the Caldari have the best looking ships.
<physics> BTW, on the moving stuff around issue: It isn't weight thats the problem, its momentum(or inertia if you want to call it that). How easy it is to change the velocity of soemthing is proportional to its mass(different from weight, weight is due to the gravitational force exerted by another body(planet), mass stays the same). So something with that much mass is very difficult to change the velocity of. As someone said, you would jsut push off, changing its velocity very little.</physics> -------------- Director. Actually things don't have weight, but rather have mass, is what I heard. And on that note, I agree the titan or even battleships should be free of any impact rocking effect missiles have on them in EVE.

Its actually neutons law of physics that every action has an equal or opposite reaction. ergo, u pushing the station with your mass, and the station reacting back wit hits greater mass in effect reacts to you by pushing you away.
and to the idiot that says theres no gravity in space... what do u think keeps the planets in orbit? --- Eris Discordia is miiiiiine |

But, CCP needs to stop the missile-impact-rocking effect... makes it seem as if the ship weighs nothing.
Space has no gravity, so in a way, they don't have any weight to them.
actualy dude. things do have weight in space. you try moving a giantic space station with your bear hands in space hehe. id be like trying to move a planet.
and dude, lol if things didernt have wight then umm, wouldent when we land on the moon, wouldent the space podf or any thing that tuch it will make the moon like float away in space more off course

This is probably the most crappiest vid ever made. People please stop saying it's a good vid.
No story, just a fly around with some film music?
At least give some background info.

Err... this is a Vid from quite a while back when Titans were a very new thing - nobody knew what they looked like or what the doomsday effect was like. I'm 99% sure the footage is from Sisi and that there is no 'story' to go along with it, it's purley just for show. -----

actually, weight would refer to mass being affected by gravity. so in space, where there is no gravity, mass w ould be the correct term. in space things have mass, not weight. things are conversly easier to move because of a lack of friction. but not easy enough to move a station with the push of a finger.

Ouch, Trillian we haven't talked for aggggges but damn that wasn't very nice :P.
No it doesnt have any story or background info. The hint is in the title (quick video), it was made over a year ago if you check the date, from the test server and is just some quick nice shots of the caldari titan which was still hot news and not many people have seen. Simple stuff.

He's right, objects don't weigh anything in space. They do have mass however, which is what you must have been refering to.
Also, assuming you have something to brace yourself against, you could move a space station. It wouldn't move very much, as a space station probably has alot of intertia, but you could move it.
And missles will rock a big ship, but the amount of "rocking" that occurs to a titan being hit with missles is just plain stupid and immersion breaking. It should REALLY be toned down.

Yup. I tried to argue once that a velator could bowl over a dreadnaut (In a discussion about bumping ships out of docking) in real life, until I was shot down by someone of better schooling than I.
As it pans out, if we take this idea that theres no 'reference' point , we can argue in terms of forces the titan is smacking into the missile as hard as the missile is smacking into the titan. Now assuming they both hit each other, which ones going to 'preserve its vector' more (ie not move a damn inch) and which is going to cop a crushing change of plan (Ie be ripped to shreds or bounced off the side). Its the missile. Its infact the reason a bullet WONT cause you to be blown over if your shot but instead fall to the ground when your body stops working due to its new ventilation.
Of course if we where being 'realistic' , those antimatter bullets you might hit things with , even ones the size of a fist , would probably rip a hole the size of a moon crater in the side of the titan. Of course its just a video game so hey.

agreed, missiles should not be able to rock these babies around at all.
You do realise in space a titan weighs nothing, thus the force of a nuclear missle impact would send it flying, but eve doesnt operate on real physics does it
And I seem to rember seeing that same video on youtube acouple months ago mabey Im wrong but thats not your titan

I love how because we all play a sc-fi game, everyone is good at physics. "Nothing has weight in space": Correct to a degree. But weight doesnt mean anything with this. Weight is the force of gravity acting on something. The force is dependant on the object's MASS(mass being important here) but since there is no earth to pull it, it has no weight. So the force has gone, the 'weight' has gone, but its mass still remains.
Mass doesnt want to move, it resists change. This is inertia. And this is why the titan wouldnt move much when the missiles hit, it has a lot of mass and therefore takes a lot to move it, wherever it is in the universe. Listen to the people quoting newtons laws, they are right. Therefore the game physics are wrong. But anyway, what does it matter?
Nice Video.
