I want to get in a battleship of some kind really, but I realise theres no point in getting into a ship without the skills to support it. People keep telling me different things about weapons. Im an Amarr, should I train laser skills and stick with them or go for a different race?
Anyone got any good sites with training guides or something? Been googling about but couldnt find anything really.
Cheers

Its a stage process. YOu train to get tech II.
Get Tech II frigates first with tech II mods to support it. Tech II weapons are key to it all.
Go thru the Item Database and find everything that can fit on your ships and start planning.

Wow .... The minimum to get into any races Battleship is Frigate 4 Cruiser 4 Spaceship Command 4
Then you can train Battleship
But to shoot Large Turrets Gunnery 5 Small Turrets 3 Medium Turrets 3
Then the support skills to actually survive in it ... Realistically 4's you can get away with some at 3 (some should be 5 eg Engineering and Electronics) and these are just the basics Electronics Engineering Navigation Mechanic Hull Upgrades Repair Systems Energy Management Energy Systems Operations Shield management Shield Operation Targeting Signature Analysis Electonic Upgrades Energy Grid upgrades Navigation The gunnery support skills Drones err ... etc etc
You may want to check the EVE New citizens Q & A and the Ship Fitting guides in Ships and Modules for ideas on how to fit out your ship and therefore the other skills you would need
Probably 3 months training to get into it .... another couple of months to not get wtfbbq'd when you take it anywhere other than high sec
oh ... and the small matter of 60 - 110Mil to buy it

You guys are forgetting the most important beginner skills in the game. They have no other use then making you train other skills faster.... LEARNING skills anyone. I would recommend that you get the entire base learning skills including the learning skill to 3 and then start training what you need to fly the tech 2 adv ships or a battleship. In this order: Frigates 3 Small whatever turrets 3 Gunnery 2 or 3 Afterburners 2 Navigation 2 From that you can fly level 1 combat missions if you want, then I would go for: Memory 3 Int 3 Learning 3 Perc 3 Will 3 and last cha 3 Good luck and enjoy.

You can use any ships or types of weapons you like. You race won't have any effect on your ability to use them. But if you're interested in any kind of roleplay it might be wise to go the Amarr+Lasers route since your corp is more likely to be able to supply you with these.

Some ships have benefits for certain weapons. Check the info screens to see what they are.

humm....best source of income is a mining cruiser for the time being....otherwise go for missioning.
best mining frigs = probe or imicus IMHO then osprey or scimitar cruisers.
geese been so long.....
decide if your gonna mine or rat hunt/mission
if you mine then you need to get into a mining cruiser asap then work your mining skills for miner t2's, then work your learning skills.....if you know you will play the game over a year then train learning to level 9's. if your not gonna and not sure then depending on your race either go level 3 learning skills or if your caldari deteis go with level 4's then start training your other stuff.
heavy perception/willpower characters like minmatar brutis need to train gunnery and spaceship command up fast and eventually work your electronis and engineering 5 skills in after you boost your learn skills which = major pain for them...
the heavy intelligence and memory charcters like caldari Deteis = you want to do your learning skills first some spaceship and gunnery to level 3's then start training engineering and electronics to level 4 then your in good shape to start learn skill 9's. after that do your engineering/electronics 5's. after that bite the bullet and decide your frigate 5/ cruiser 5/ bship 4 items....O forgot gunnery will also be very painful train them to level 4's after your learn skills.... decide your specializations carefully.... missils or gunnery's....
really don't remeber all the little things you need first.......such a long road ahead of you. lol
don't jump in a Bship first thing unless its just for mining in high sec.......engineering skills are so important to a successful bship pilot. should have a goal probly of 4 mill sp's before getting in a bship to npc hunt to any great degree unless your a raven pilot maby.......anywayz. good luck.
