Edited by: BlackHole Bob on 07/12/2005 11:27:02 Hey,
All the new Captial Ships look great....
All the new Capital Ships have great stats..
to bad 98% of the players in eve will not ever fly one...
but of course they shouldn't....
point is, if you think in a small corp of players, you will ever own -fly- have one, your not looking at the big picture....
all this hype over Captial Ships and in reality very very few players will ever see one in THIER hangar....or for that matter, thier corps hangar either...
whats there like 30 dreads in game now?.. divided by 75k subcriptions....LOL...
Interceptors 4tw!!!!

There are more than 30 Dreads in game.
My corp alone owns five of them.
My corp is barely 25 actual people.
Young corps? No.
Determined and hardworking corps? Yes.

There are far more than 30 dreads in the game.. I know a couple of pilots that own their own.. also freighters are owned by individuals. If people a willing to spend 1 bil+ on faction and navy ships, you can be darned sure they will spend a bit more to own a Dread or a Carrier.
I hope we never see a privately owned Titan though.

I'd say as a conservative estimate there are at least 100-150 dreads ingame atm. The only thing limiting people from getting more is that their totally useless outside shooting POSes.

I can think of three people off the top of my head who can or will probably own one eventually. Scary, but very true.

Seeing as I keep seeing this misconception, i thought I might clear it up - at the end of beta, all characters were wiped. No characters have skills trained from before eve went live. ----------------------

Aprrox. 28 days to build the components, and 8 weeks to build the actual ship.

I was in Beta 3.. but I couldnt see myself signing up for this game at release. The sheer lack of content wasnt worth $15 a month. Followed it for 2 years before signing up.

Very wealthy individuals will be able to afford carriers rather easily actually. So will even small corporations if they work for it. Just corporations made up of new players will find them out of their range for the first year or so, big deal, that's what they are after all: high level player corp material. _______________________________________________

As with everthing else in this game you can have one if you spend enough time and work at it. When i first started i was really excited at making 10mil, 100mil seemed so far away but i got there. Same applies here, just stick with it.

I want to contradict the poster's hopelessness with a real example;
A member of our Corp joined the game just over six months ago and, by his own hard work and dedication, he is now flying a Freighter.
Okay, that's not a Capital Ship, but it shows that you should never say never in Eve. The secret to success today is specialisation.
I expect to see as many carriers around in 6 months as there are freighters today.

dont have to be in the game since beta to afford a dread, know few guys who are only 2005 players who already have a dread of their own.

point made...OLD characters with a billion ISK to blow
So will even small corporations if they work for it
Easy to say being in BoB..(smirks)

first year or so...games only been out 2-3 years now...
great for BoB wortheless to all else...
--------------
Point is all the hype over the Capital Ships and when in fact, as you state, its all for "high level player corp material" in your words....and thus...very few players actually fly one....
so when 50 zillion players spew propoganda and speculation while yet very few players actually even sat in the pilot seat is beyond me...
but then one must have goals and this is one of the grandest goals per se in EvE - on your path to owning the galaxy ..lol

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 07/12/2005 12:05:51 Hi, according to CCP about 25% of the currently active accounts have been active/in existence since 2003.
At least, that was the tally some time ago.
Few players ? Right.
Secondly, carriers will cost half what a dread costs, that means it's yours for as little as a billion and a half if not less.
I can individually make that in a week.
You, regardless of skill as longa s you can fly a bs and fit it with guns, can make that with a corp of 10 players in the same time, even without access to the neat stuff us BoB have.
Why you don't ? Because of other factors, like not being arsed to work together, or give up isk for another person.

uhhh if players didnt get wiped i wouldnt have bought release...hehehe....
some games now are actually moving away from character wipes to build client base before launch....old days of MMO are gone...lol
some new game i read recently beta testing states clearly if you buy the $10 client and make beta (which paying $10 for the client gets you into beta) your character wont be wiped ...blah ..lol
marketing rules the gameworld!...hence the topic to this thread....market hype for Capital ships is a bit much...
if it was me I would hype fleet warefare and deep 0.0 space more...not one class of ship.
but then i dont run marketing at CCP...LOL...thank god...I would screw the universe up for sure....

Isn't the same true for expensive sports cars, the space shuttle, Airplanes etc. ? Much more people talk about them then actually fly them.
May you live in interesting times

So what? ..thats what i'd normally say when i read the first post.
What i mean with that is is that the whole "only rich/very experienced/old time chars can use *fill in blank space*" thing is what you see happen in any mmo(rpg).
Its like you expect everybody to have the best stuff after 2 months ..what do you think this is? WoW? please go cry me a river.

Edited by: Spike Larosse on 07/12/2005 12:08:30 Edited by: Spike Larosse on 07/12/2005 12:07:30 Well, thing is that yes, few will fly these ships, but they nevertheless have an impact on most people! For once, by their presence and political influence, and secondly, and maybe most important: goals, visions, dreams. A lot of being a part of the EVE-universe is about setting those goals, and working towards them while having loads of fun on the way. In the end, it might not even matter if you ever achieve them fully, but having that great vision on the horizon sure adds to my excitement about the game! These ships may be out of reach, but if everything would be within the grasp of your hand, it would easily get boring. No other games named. ------------------------------------------- Proud Member of RSP Enterprises Ltd Raw Materials Division Chief Executive |

well it isnt wow capital ships arent meant to be flown by everyone at the top end they are a corp and alliance weapon
We also have stuff for individuals ie t2 desotyers, battlecruisers and battleships mining barges also coming.
Cant complain and the 60 odd NPC new ships coming and refined loot tables as well as more modules t2 modules more named modules

How many percent of the playerbase live in Empire space? 50%? 75%? 80%? To all of them the new ships will be useless anyways regardless of their monetary wealth.

Not according to the sisi server. It'll cost at least 1 billion to manufacture 1 small carrier and around 17.5 billion to invest in the component and carrier BPO's.
Expect small carriers to sell for around 5 billion each for a while then drop to around 2.5 to 3 when the novelty wears off.
