want a titan?
get organised and understand from the start that this is going to take you a LONG time unless you are in a well organised corporation or alliance - And even then it won't happen tomorrow. Those individual players who can afford capital ships are players who are highly organised and stick to their gameplan no matter what.
Personally, I'd love to have a titan but my reality implant keeps kicking in to remind me that a) I don't have a use for one and 2) I can barely get organised enough to build frigates.
So, whilst I want one I know that should I ever be lucky enough to have one, it would never get used. So I'm not going to waste the training time.
well, not just yet anyway.

For once, by their presence and political influence, and secondly, and maybe most important: goals, visions, dreams. A lot of being a part of the EVE-universe is about setting those goals, and working towards them while having loads of fun on the way. In the end, it might not even matter if you ever achieve them fully, but having that great vision on the horizon sure adds to my excitement about the game! These ships may be out of reach, but if everything would be within the grasp of your hand, it would easily get boring. No other games named.
heres a great point post and response...

Off topic I know; but just curious about your sig Taniya. Thats one heck of an insult to some people. "May you live in interesting times", essentially means "may your life be full of war, death, grief, famine and misery"
On topic just imagine the rush if/when you actually do bump into one of the motherships during the course of your normal eve-play. Wouldn't get that rush if they were as common as mud.

I know 2 people who have enough isk (15b+) to PRIVATELY afford a mothership when the price drops after a few weeks/months.
They are not alliance leaders, they're not even directors in their corps, they are not from beta-days, they are both over a year old and they both put alot of effort into playing the game. They do not cheat, exploit, farm, macro-mine ect ect.
In eve Effort+Time=Reward
Carriers will be about as popular as dreads are now in a few months, Motherships will be far rarer due to costs, and titans will be very rare indeed.

Even Dreads didn't sell at 5 billions when they came out, and they cost a lot more to build. Today you can find fully fitted dreads at 2.2 millions (saw a Moros with 3 rails and 3 blaster turrets (around 50 millions to build each gun), siege mod and capital repairer for that price)... Someone on sisi made some calculations and said that, with skills, you could build a carrier for 0.6 billion. I don't expect them to cost more than 1.2 billion/each, once the novelty frenesy will be over.

That someone was wrong.
Sisi has been updated since then and Carriers require 2 extra component types in their construction now - pushing the manufacture price up to around 1 bil each.

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 07/12/2005 13:59:31 Well, although most of us are usually broke and although we have often not more than 10 people online in the evening during the week, we've already 2 corp freighters plus the bpos, first freighter gained mostly by corp mining, the second freighter was an effort of only a few players. Think our ex-ceo has also a dread since a week, but he's quite rich.
So after RMR we're going to get a carrier. Guess it's more a problem that only 2 or 3 people in our corp are close to flying one. The one who's supposed to fly the first gallente carrier is also poor, so guess it has to be done by corp mining or so again.
I'm thinking about a carrier or dread for myself later, but I'd still need months for the skills, time enough to make some money until then. And guess my corp will never own a titan, but we're no alliance, why should we ? Mothership maybe someday, but not in the near future. It's nothing that we think about at the moment. Don't know, somehow I just don't see the problem. These ships are supposed to be the flagships of alliances and rare and expensive. For me it adds to the athmosphere, even if we don't have them. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

Edited by: Testy Mctest on 07/12/2005 14:04:32 As soon as producers flood the market with Carriers and the prices drop like freighters did, I'll be buying one.
By that time, I'll be able to fly one too.
But whats the point in a game where everyone can get everything? Look at warcraft...it sucks because there's no elitism. Any gang of 40 people with a modicum of skill can clear the top dungeons. The line seperating good players from bad players is almost non existant.
Whats the point in a game if there's no competition, and wins? Life isnt all sunshine, lollipops and silver platters.

how many faction batle ships u see in 0.0? those cost 1 bil, think of a ship costing 45 bil ...
these fleet battle's ccp dreams of are going to be dreams for a while, unles u are on the test server ofcourse
they should make tier 3 battle ships, or somting between bs and dreadnought and add lvl5 missions wich are meant to do solo so u would actualy be able to make the isk

QFFT OMG
Man let me tell you guys, I said this about 4-5 months ago. Titans will be as popular as battleships, all it will take is time!
Discorp and myself (and I'm sure many of you!) remember in beta when, if you had a merlin it was a heavy warship. If you had a cruiser it was OMG we can't lose! And if you had a bs...
Well. You didn't have a bs. Nor could "anybody but large corps like Endless afford 101 million for a Raven! *drool*"
I hear you say, but dreadnoughts aren't as popular as battleships. Well, that's because they suck. Titans have a smartbomb that kills battleships in one hit. Here is an alliance investment:
- Build first Titan.
- Go to 10/10 complex. Activate tank. Agress all groups.
- Activate superweapon. Collect loot with tractorbeam. Progress.
- Repeat.
Players trying to gank you? Launch fighters / use XL guns / tank them forever / call the alliance to clone jump into your belly then vomit them into the enemies face / etc.
FYI: Chribba has his own alliance, his own dreadnought(s?), and I don't know how progress on his own outpost is going but tbh, his own titan(s) will be pocket change to him.
And he's just the super-rich carebear we know about.
PS Rod Blaine. Please explain to me how you make a billion quid a week. Thx -omg-

All the new Captial Ships look great....
All the new Capital Ships have great stats..
to bad 98% of the players in eve will not ever fly one...
but of course they shouldn't....
point is, if you think in a small corp of players, you will ever own -fly- have one, your not looking at the big picture....
all this hype over Captial Ships and in reality very very few players will ever see one in THIER hangar....or for that matter, thier corps hangar either...
whats there like 30 dreads in game now?.. divided by 75k subcriptions....LOL...
Interceptors 4tw!!!!
I never see in my future of eve any ships like that. Only the big alliances or corps can afford that. Right now I cannot even afford the skill to fly one more on less to own one. you Cannot make enough isk in a small corp to do that. eves ratio is about 5 to 10 mil per hr. Do the math.
And Then who would fight in one. They just drive them in empire to show them off.
useless ships imo
Thanks

Well whats the real point of owning these super ships if all you do is mine and rat??
These ships seem more designed for group engagements and 0.0 warfare. Which is just fine to be honest.
These new wave of capital ships are great as they will be rare to see (For a couple months anyhow)
I know I will sit in astonishment as I see a player owned titan fly past me.

What were they changed to then?
Last I saw, a Minmatar small carrier (Nidhoggur) for instance needed the following:
7x Capital Armor plates 4x Capital Capacitor Batteries 7x Capital Computer Systems 4x Capital Construction Parts 50x Capital Drone Bay 11x Capital Jump Drive 9x Capital Power Generator 11x Capital Propulsion Engine 7x Capital Sensor Cluster 9x Capital Shield emitters.
All of those parts are currently out and available so any alliance building dreads needs to buy 2 BPO to build a fully functional small carrier. The carrier itself and one of the Fighter BPO. Also at general market rates, the minerals required for the Minmatar Carrier have almost the exact same cost as the minerals for the Minmatar Freighter.
Unless of course there are some new unknown components that the small carrier needs that changed in the last 2 days.

I'm 100% sure I will never own a titan.
However, I'm also 100% sure I'll dock at a titan some day, and even be a part of an op run from one.
And this is good. These things should be rare and expensive...only for big, established corporations to consider. Individual (non-crazy-rich, such as myself) players shouldn't be able to own and operate a thing like that (although I can think of a few players that probably will). ------------------------------------------- Sometimes, I wake up but keep on dreaming. |

Yeah, both work splendidly altho I can't use barges nor dcm II's on any of my chars so I can't actually do the mining thing very well. If I could use dcm II's I'd be semi-afk mining mercoxit all day in a tanked bs.
I'd think npc whoring continuously for days on end would do it too, if you use one account to chain for base income and another to look aroudn for faction spawns all day. Bound to find one officer or a few commanders per week that way, but it takes way too much time.
But, I said I could make that, didn't say I did. It's utterly boring to maximise your income in 0.0, altho it sure gives nice results if you do it.
And anyhow, I don't need a billion per week anyway.
People that look in awe at ships that cost a fwe billion should know that these things are designed for use in 0.0, and thus tailored to the income of it's most able inhabitants.
Making 50 billion is about a months worth of hard work for a team of ten people, given access to the top resources in the galaxy. But it's not that which poses the challenge, the challenge is in getting that access and organising your alliance so you can use it and gain as an alliance, not as a person.
With capital ships CCP introduces an upscaled reason to compete over resources. If they prove worth their money, and worth doing alot for to get that money in the first place, people will put their goals higher and competition at the top end of the spectrum will actually increase, which is one thing that is certainly needed in Eve. _______________________________________________
