I'm about to join FW, but I'd like to get my overview setup first so there are no non-fw related blinkies and reds to confuse me. I've only been able to find really old info. The newest that I saw was this:
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Overview_Guide
Is that good enough?
One that I saw actually removed blues from showing up at all, and didn't add drones. Aren't there are times and fits where you would want to see your friendlies to hug them, and times and fits you would want to see the evil drones to pew them?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Only had a quick look but. With that set up militia members who have poor sec status will show red.
Should start with (From the top):
Pilot is at war with your corporation/ alliance Pilot is at war with your militia Pilot has terrible standing Pilot has bad standing Pilot is in your n¼éeet Pilot is in your corporation Pilot is in your alliance Pilot has excellent standing Pilot has good standing Pilot is in your militia or allied to your militia Pilot is an ally in one or more of your wars
The rest - meh.
That should keep you out of trouble with friendlies.
ALSO - Add the militia column to your overview and drag it to the top of the column list.
You can then squeeze it so only one letter shows. C, G, M or A will then be the 1st thing you see.
No mistakes can happen if you do that. Fix this **** See Sea Pea. |

You can have upto 5 different tab up at any time.
My tabs are:
General : has pretty much everything on including (friendlies i.e. corp, allaince, milita, allies, fleet) PVP + Travel : Hostile/Neutral ships, stargates and acceleration gates and the sun. PVP + Drones : Hostile ships & drones only Pod Saver : ONLY warpable celestials (when going to pop select this and randomly click a celestial and spam warp to. Once in warp select the normal tab you use and warap off to a bookmarked safespot as soon as you land. You'll pretty much only lose a pod with this method due to lag.) Misc: Random stuff like mission loot, wrecks etc That is the Way, the Tao.

EDIT - You have a 2nd tab 'PvP Tab' with no friendlies showing for pew pew. So just use same order and untick ONLY the friendly boxes for that tab only. Leave the rest ticked.
if you use lost of spy alts etc fleet memebers should go over anything, does not work on random fleets. |

Ok, here is my first attempt.
http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1307/sample-FW-1.zip
Travel = Beacons, Stations, Gates NPCs = all ships, jump gates, and stuff PVP = naughty PC ships & **drones (@ war w/ corp & militia, *(bad, neutral, no standing)) -- brackets setup with warpable thingies FW = naughty ships + friendlies & **drones(above + militia/corp/fleet/positive standings) -- brackets setup with warpable thingies Everything = Everything =)
* Is there a reason not to have neutrals on your list? As far as I know, there's nothing stopping a non-militia person from engaging. ** I know I need to see drones sometimes... but they're so very cluttery on the overview, so I'm not exactly sure where to put them.
Thanks again for all your help! |

ALWAYS have neutrals on your overview unless its a 'specialist tab' like POD SAVER! Always assume a neutral is there to attack you unless intentions have been declared beforehand. And even if they have been declared still assume they are going to attack unless you know them to honour their word.
Drones: Thats why I have 2 pvp tabs. General pvp and basic travel stuf and PVP+drones which is just drones and ships of non friendly players. drones are a PITA on the overview and a lot of the time I'm not interested in actually engaging drones so I ignore them. sometimes however drones are the first priority so I swap tabs to take care of them then swap back to the other once they are gone. That is the Way, the Tao.

I just noticed "In your militia" is almost last. Is it common to have militia members with shootibly bad standing?

Yes actually it is very normal to have shootibly bad standing people inside your faction. Which is why I think somebody is setting you up for utter failure and lols.
I believe further up/top has precedence....
Corp Alliance Militia (position1) In case you think militia status is more important than blue/superblue Excellent Good Militia (position2) in case you think militia members should be further sorted by corp standings as militia/blue/superblue Neutral Is at war with corp/alliance Is at war with militia Criminal Bad Low Fleet (sometimes bad guys join your fleet...do you really want them to be purple?)
Criminal / low / bad standings should be put lower...because otherwise you'll end up shooting criminals that happen to be a part of your own militia. Lets face it, we get bored, we engage neutrals...which makes us pirates eventually.
Maybe I'm wrong...I've been absent for a few months. |

Are you confusing player set standings with npc standings or sec status?
The standing is set when you add contacts in your contacts list.
If you set someone to red - you want them to show up as red even if in militia - awoxers etc etc.

Ok - So when another Militia corp war decs them - they wont see the WT's. Great idea man.
The info I gave is accurate as far as I can tell.

So I jumped into a gate camp of the opposite militia and got killed. They only showed up on grid when i chose "Pilot has a security status below 0"
My current selections (Filter -> States) Pilot has a bad standing Pilot has excellent standing Pilot has good standing Piliot has neutral standing Pilot has no standing Pilot has terrible standing Pilot is an ally in one or more of your wars Pilot is at war with your corp/alliance Pilot is at war with your militia Pilot is in your alliance Pilot is in your corporation Pilot is in your fleet Pilot is in/allied with your militia
They were 100% at war with my miliita, how come they didn't show up till i selected the security status one? |

I have never done FW stuff but I do find it handy having a collection of 'GTFO' overview settings available, and always have one set in my far-right overview tab. These show no ships at all, just my chosen class of celestial (e.g. moons).
Often enough your align point (or bravely warp away point) is accessible via mainscreen drop-down menu, but it is usually fast to simply switch to that GTFO overview and select. if you're in your pod you can spam-warp an overview location but not a drop-down location.
These are especially handy when there are hundreds of ships visible in your combat overview.
I also run a variety of overview settngs that show subsets of enemy ships, such as 'hictors/dictors', 'frigs', 'BSs', 'BLOPS' only, 'Freighters/JFs' (ganking work), 'Capitals' etc etc etc. Again they may have little relevance to FW,altho the idea probably will, but just a couple days ago we were a bit trapped by a large enemy fleet. They were serial bubbling us and whittling our numbers down, while we were trying to find some free space so we could bravely warp away. The FC commanded a swith to dictor/hictor-only overview setting and we sanitised the area of bubblers before some of us managed to extricate.
My overview tabs are usually something like this: Travel - showing all ships, gates, WHs, control towers, bubbles, probes, and that's about it. PvP 1 - showing all non-blue, non-purple, non-green ships ongrid. PvP 2 - Showing the subset of enemy ships currently of interest. PvP 3 - A backup selection, often showing enemy drones or some other subset of interest. GTFO - Showing no ships at all, just a chosen celestial type. I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. Our pirate epic arc completion packages really are very good: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=12973&find=unread |
