I'm getting to the point where I need to decide which races Tech 3 cruiser to spec into. I mostly do mission running and pvp once in a great while. Is there any of the 4 that will be better suited for mission running or are they all basically the same thing? |

After typing this up, can I clarify; were you talking about Strategic Cruisers (T3)? or Tier 3 Cruisers(t3)? If it was the latter, ignor all I typed.
To be honest, unless you are looking to do deep space exploration WH/Null sec I would suggest you don't bother with a T3 for mission running.
I used a Legion to do level 3's but I only did enough to get more Faction POS Charters, it's main roll is exploration.
For what you want, go for a good solid Battlecruiser/Battleship, those will both cost less and will not hurt so much if you do end up losing one. Remember, you actually lose skill points if your Strategic Cruiser goes POP! with you in it. |

Yeah, the Strategic Cruisers like the Loki and Tengu. Someone told me before that the Tengu is the best thing you can do for mission 4's. I've never been in one before so wanted some more opinions before I dropped a bunch of cash on one. |

the tengu used to be a really good mission ship a year ago and it is still "ok", but in the mean time heavy missiles got a nerf and cruise missiles got a huge buff, so that the missile battleship hulls are now flat out better than the tengu (as far as missions go).

I would say Tengu is the most (only) T3 used for missions, against some pirate factions the Loki can be useful, Legion and Proteus you probably want to avoid.
Keep in mind there are ships like faction battleships and marauders, are better suited for running missions then the T3's. I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous. |

Strategic cruisers are primarily pvp-ships or for specialized pve. If you live in hi-sec going for battleships of speicifc sorts optimised is usually better.
However, expand your horizon and check out w-space.
If you chose to do so, talk with whatever corp you want to work with. They most often have recommended doctrines for whatever fleet they are flying. Wormholes have the best accoustics. It's known. - Sing it for me - |

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, it was about a year ago when I last played and someone recommended the Tengu.
I guess I'll start looking into the Battleships. The Galente Super Potato drone boat good for missions and salvaging? |

Yes. The Dominix with its new bonuses to drone range and tracking is very good with Garde II sentry drones for PVE. |

Domi's are extremely annoying to face in PvP, in my opinion, so I'd personally be less willing to attack a Domi than a Gila though. |

I second Max. Tech 3 is wasted on missions. More expensive then a battleship , does missions slower then a battleship , will be ganked more then a battleship... On top of that, get killed in one and you lose sp, why risk it if you have no benefit from it?
Best strategic cruiser for PVE is obviously the Tengu.

Intriguing comment, can you please elaborate? Well, if we are talking blob warfare, domis are very good because you can tell your sentries to just assist the FC and he can then choose targets himself. In small gang pvp, a domi often has its highs full of neuts, remote reps and other nasty stuff while being a serious brick and still doing solid dps to any size of target. Its only real downside is mobility; once you get caught by a larger force, there is 0 chance to outmaneuver them and get away. |

Yee,
Thanks for your reply, I understand they would/could be more annoying in a small gang or blob situation as opposed to a Gila but the original comment was referring to LVL4/Null Sec ratting. So I assumed that Tau was referring to engaging solo Domi/Gila.
Do you feel same is still true in a solo situation? |

Don't underestimate the Proteus for l4's, if you aren't into the tengu fad. With 4 sentry drones and the right modules, it can put out 600 dps to 100km from drones alone.
A good faction battleship will always beat out the tech 3's for mission running speed though. - Mission Overhaul - Bridging the PVP / PVE Gap - -áIf the game stops teaching people to fear lowsec, maybe people will start going there? |
